And I agree 100% about Dollhouse.. I've tried to watch it several times, but just can't get into it.

Summer Glau is like poison to a series, even though I like her.
Her previous series, Firefly, got nuked after 1 season ?(

Aah.. nuts. I was really enjoying this series, they really developed the characters much better in S2.
After seeing the ending I thought at the time it might be the last - wrapped up too many plot lines. (Plus the namesake of the series gets left behind, with probable cancer.)
Thought it was a very Terminator end: none of the films ever gave closure, they always end with the war still looming, and this does too. Nice touch.
Also liked how they killed people off for a few eps (before bringing them back in a fated kind of way). I love the feeling where no-one seems safe. Buffy you knew who would win, Termintor always good for making you wonder.
I don't know how these things work, but if they do a 'John Connor Chronicles' for someone else I'll be first to give it a look-see.

Just to add to the whole Firefly thing, that also happend to Nathan Fillion. After Firefly, his other show Drive was dead after only 2 Episodes. I think something else was called out with him as well.
He amused the hell out of me in Serenity/Firefly, and any other movie/show he did.
Seems most of the cool people from that show can't seem to make it out side of the one show that made them Popular, Firefly.

[aside]
If you want some anti Fox funnies; watch the start of the first Futurama straight to DVD movie "Bender's Big Score". If I had to vent against Fox, I wouldn't go as far as what happened to the characters from the Box Network!
One of my favorite shows and I know a ton of people that watch it. On the other hand I don't know of anyone that has ever had anything good to say about dollhouse. Also, canceling Firefly was a stupid move. It had it's cult following to pay the bills and by now would have a huge mainstream following that would have made the network piles of money.

Never could get into the Sarah Connor Chronicles or whatever it's called. A couple of people watch it at work, but like Lost and Heroes, it just doesn't appeal to me.
Zerocool2024 - I think on that show Chuck, the male agent (not Chuck) but the other guy who's always with the blond chick, isn't he from Firefly? The guy from Full Metal Jacket. But you're right, none of them have done much outside of Firefly.

TiVo Junkie blog entry ('http://www.tivojunkie.com/2009/03/great-new-mid-season-show.html')
it's on my short list of shows i tivo:
burn notice
castle
chuck doctor who (holding opinion on the new doctor) fringe
supernatural (FINALLY... a show w/ demons AND angels. how do they acknowledge one w/out the other??)
the mentalist the unit (ff passed the family squabble bs) two and a half men
btw... there were 4 episodes of 'drive'

I figured they would have waited till after the movie to renew/cancel the Terminator. If the movie did really well, I would have kept it and road out another season on its coat tails. If it bombed, then I would have let it go.
The final episode I thought was decent enough. It tied off enough loose ends, but left enough open to move it to another medium like books, games, fan fiction and stuff. I agree it would be a good show for syfy ,or however its spelled now, to pickup. I think it would go good with a friday paring of the new Stargate.
Right now my tv play list is:
Chuck
House
Smallville
Lie to Me
Legend of the Seeker
Heroes
24

It makes me so sad, I really, really liked The Sarah Conner Cronicles. I love Supernatural, didn't think I'd like it at first. But damn I hate when my list of shows to watch shrinks.
At least I've still got Numbers, Criminal Minds, Legend of The Seeker, Dexter, Sanctuary and all of West Wing to rewatch.

I can't forget chuck and heroes. I loved the heroes season finale even if the lead ups were a bit slow. Because of my work schedule I record everything and catch up on off days. I will save up a few weeks and watch them back to back to keep the flow going. I think I have about 6-8 unwatched 24 episodes, including tonights finale.
I am considering getting a portable media player so I can squeeze some shows down and watch them during down time at work.

oh yea, i forgot about the seeker (my tivo doesn't record it, i guess it's not in this area... so i'm left with, other means). it's definitely growing on me, and the filming quality is top notch. the actors are pretty good, i just wish zed would do more... so much for the almighty 'wizard of the 1st order'... blast people already.
i left smallville off my list as i don't feel it's in the same league as supernatural and the rest (supernatural's season finale, kicked butt! but last years was soooo much better... and the season opener... holy crap!!). ever since they took out mr. kent, it hasn't been the same. (superman returns was also a disappointment)
anyone seen the new x-men origins? was it worth it? (rotten tomatoes has it 37% / 65% ('http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/wolverine/') ) seemed like they didn't keep with the comics and played more towards the saturday morning cartoon mythos (but i got from the previews).
the new star trek? definitely worth it. (rotten tomatoes has it 95% / 88% ('http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_trek_11/') )
@starbuck
yea.. i was thinking the same. business-wise it just didn't make sense. if the movie does well, (25% on the tomato meter but 60% from the RT community ('http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/terminator_salvation/')), then you could get better ad sales, promos, and toys linked with the series. i guess they got some advanced intel and didn't like what they saw.

Legend of the Seeker is kind of growing on me. A good combination of Lore and reasonable writing. Mix in good wardrobe and visual effects, now there is a good all around series.
Even though it is a fantasy/magic/dnd type show, there isn't a bunch of "superman" magic things saving the day.

if you want to see a show that stands almost entirely on its writing and acting, check out 'burn notice'. it's actually a low budget piece, but the story lines are engaging and intriguing to the point that it's the only show i stop to watch once 15 minutes have been tivo'd

Legend of the Seeker is done really well and is growing on me. And to me that's surprising because it seems most sword and sorcery TV shows end up going the Xena route where they're light hearted and campy. Seeker is one of the few shows I TiVo. I don't TiVo 'Burn Notice' but watch cause I've always been a fan of Bruce Campbell. Can you say 'The Adventures of Briscoe County?' That is one of my all time favorite TV series.
My TiVo list:
Dexter
Weeds
Californication
(I should say "I record Showtime" shouldn't I?)
Legend of the Seeker
And lots of one off documentaries like "Stealing Lincoln's Body" and stuff like that.

I'm sad to see T:SCC get axed too. Now I have to wait for the next TV show with Summer Glau in it :(
Anyways since people are listing their TIVO (called PVR here in Canada) listings, I might as well too. I'll probably get a few laughs on this but wth.
* Lost
* Amazing Race
* {terminator now gone}
* Being Erica (CBC show, so probably only avail. in Canada)
* Smallville
* CSI (just the original, never got into the spinoffs)
And then there's about 15 or so the wife tapes. *sigh*. At least it keeps her busy so I have time to play WOW lol. Just tired of seeing the PVR showing "80% full" and worrying if my shows will tape. And no, I can't add an external HDD to it, although it has an external USB and SATA port my cable provider disabled them in the firmware.

I thought the show ended well actually, its not at ALL a "sad" ending imo - his father/uncle alive, possibly 2 new allys among the machine people (John Henry and the Garbage singer), it goes back to the roots of T2 and "the future is what you make of it", instead of the "can't change anything" T3 message.
Sadly the new movie has absolutely nothing to do with the TV show and the two have no story lines in common other than involving terminators and John Conner.
Re: why it was cancelled, obviously viewership numbers weren't great but its also a numbers issue. Dollhouse for example is produced by Fox and they own the IP, whereas they have to license the Terminator IP from Warner Bros - season1/2 was licensed very cheap because WB wanted the universe in peoples minds before the movie. Also shows like Dollhouse and Chuck agreed to significant budget reductions going forward, it would have been hard for a special fx driven show like Terminator.
Its a bummer, next year may be a pretty dry sci-fi year. Lost is winding down, the only new shows afaik spinning up are Stargate Universe and Caprica, I think the quality on both will be pretty uneven (some good episodes lotsa crap).

I'm still depressed to find that William Peterson (who plays Gil Grisham) has left CSI. I stopped watching basically all TV about 3 or 4 years ago, but it still makes me sad to see all the shows I used to be interested in deteriorating before my unwatching eyes. Makes me feel old!
Well, they replaced him with Samuel L Jackson, one of my more favoured actors, but he just doesn't seem able to pull off an intelligent role.

I think they try to put Samuel L. Jackson in too many roles. I'm not saying he doesn't have range, but I once saw him in a pirate movie wearing a blond wig and saying stuff like "Avast ye muthaf*n maties!"

All I watch on TV was Battlestar, TSCC, Dollhouse, and Burn Notice. It looked for a while that both Dollhouse and TSCC were getting canned which would have left me with one TV show left for the year. I liked TSCC more than Dollhouse but beggars can't be choosers. Even though they're based on separate timelines it seems kind of silly to can a Terminator TV show right before seeing how much renewed interest in the franchise the new Terminator movie creates.

The TSCC was imo the best show on television.
It's probably gone for good, but I hope Sci-Fi picks it up, now that they've finished BSG.
I'm pretty much re-watching assorted Star Trek's, at the moment mid Season 5.
Not too many shows on that I enjoy.
Recently, have been into:
- Battlestar Galactica
- Heroes
- Stargate SG-1
- Stargate Atlantis
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

if you haven't seen it yet, you should find Babylon 5. definitely top notch... well, up to the end of season 4 (out of 5). they thought they were not getting renewed, so the writer finished the story arc in 4 years instead of 5... but then they got renewed... sort of screwing up the story a bit. but the first 4 seasons were definitely quality. the graphics were very good, even by today's standards (it's not like star trek from the 60s... omg)

Lie to Me is my current favorite.
Been trying to watch the Legend of the Seeker series on Hulu. Man, I'm struggling with it. The chick that plays Kahlan is cute but if you've read the books that it's based on, you'll note the drastic departures from the original premises.

I thought the books started out okay until around Faith of the Fallen or Pillars of Creation. (Can't remember exactly where). Then the series kind of died on me. I know it's a daunting task to carry that many books and not have some high points and some low, but I got to the point where I didn't like the way the book's good guys were WAY good and the bad guys WAY bad. Bad guys would walk around punching people for no apparent reason other than to make you hate them. The bad guys, other than Darken Rahl, all have long dirty hair, and they're all unwashed, vile, disgusting, yada yada yada. Cutting off a woman's nipple which bound her to her master.
Yes I get it. We're not supposed to like these guys right?
The actors who play Richard and Kahlan on the TV series surprised me. I thought Kahlan in the book was supposed to be much prettier than the girl in the TV show, (not that she's ugly mind you) and the guy playing Richard has grown on me. Initially I was surprised by their choice but the guy has done a great job. Darken Rahl's character I'm a little surprised by too. I keep seeing the elven dude from Lord of the Rings and not Darken Rahl. Maybe I'll get over that aspect someday.

I kind of feel like it's in it's first seash of "Buffy the Vampire" stages...almost hard to watch at first, but then it get's better as the charactes develop.
And then there are the girls in the shiny black leather/pleather.... /drool ermm... :whistling:
Other than that, I like:
Supernatural
Heroes
Smallville
The Mentalist
Lost
Fringe
Terminator...sigh
Chuck

Books ruin tv shows and movies. I prefer to read the books after seeing the shows. I know the books will be a better story, but I like to have all the visuals in my head from the shows when I read the books. Im on the 4th Twilight book right now. Alice was really hot in the movie, makes it even better in the books.
I really liked Smallvile but for the love of god. Get rid of Lana. Its done, dead, quit bringing her back and just resetting any and all storyline/relationship with Lois! Kill her with fire please!
Legend of the Seeker is done by the same crew as Xena, Im liking it a lot that the wire work is gone and its not slapstick violence.
I haven't been able to get into Sanctuary. 11 seasons as Cpt. Carter your Cpt. Carter. It doesnt help that its the same production group out in canada either. All the extras and other actors are from Stargate as well. I cant get into Dollhouse either, and Buffy/Firefly were excellent.

Legend of the Seeker is done by the same crew as Xena, Im liking it a lot that the wire work is gone and its not slapstick violence.Except for the fight scenes. Kahlan's are sorta believable. Richard's are retarded. In the books, the Sword of Truth allows you to draw on fight experience of all the master swordsmen seekers who wielded the sword before. Thus, in the books, Richard used the sword like a scalpel, not a blunt instrument. The way the guy who plays Richard swings a sword is just painful to watch. Sure, he's all strong and buff and sweaty and all that but not all of his opponents were heavy, slow, plodding idiots with a sword. :P
But eh, I'm a snob when it comes to believable fight scenes and I rarely ever see one on TV or movies. The stuff in the recent star wars movies was probably the better ones I've seen but even those are all about 6 moves. :P
