The idea of having an 80 of every race and character class seems cool, but the thought of getting them there numbs me to tears simply thinking about it. That's taking alt-tism to another level. A level that my money says he won't achieve. The grind will be too great and he'll succumb to sheer boredom way before he'll get there. 62 characters? I scoff at idea that he'll make it.

I'm as skeptical of this project as Yamio.

It just sounds like a waste of time.

I'm as skeptical of this project as Yamio.

It just sounds like a waste of time.

And many people will say that multi-boxing is a waste of time. And many people will argue that playing MMORPGs are a waste of time. Be a little more respectful of other people and how they choose to spend their time.

Do what you enjoy doing. I am interested to see if you can make that deadline. My team is about halfway through 70 and it feels slooooooow compared to 60-70. The 60s just zoomed by in Outlands without even trying very hard. I did Hellfire, Zangramarsh and Nagrand (skipped Terokkar as I outleveled it). The instances were easy enough and good xp. It feels much slower now though. I turn in 4-5 quests and expect to make huge inroads into the current level and my xp bar barely moves.

hmmm... 5 accounts, 62 characters. interesting problem.

thinking out loud here:
---
first issue... you have 5 accounts, but a max of 10 toons per server. i'd consider 6 toons per account per server on 2 servers. this will give 60 characters... add 1 character per server to get 31 (death knight)

next, don't go above 60 while RAF is still active. you'd just be wasting your precious RAF time.

the best i have heard for a /played from 1-60 was about 24 hours and 1-30 in 12 hours.

assuming chained accounts, A -> B -> C -> D -> E, i'd take the first group to 60 quick, with some basic professions (enchanting for sure)
created: A1(60), B1(60), C1(60), D1(60), E1(60)
grantables: A1(0), B1(30), C1(30), D1(30), E1(30)
/played: 24 hours (some professions allowed)
total created: 5 * 60
total played: 24 hrs

2nd set: level to 30... granting them to 60 once done.
created: A2(60), B2(60), C2(60), D2(60), E2(30)
grantables: A2(0), B2(30), C2(30), D2(30), E2(15)
/played: 12 hrs (in the rhythm now)
total created: 9 * 60 + 1 * 30
total played: 36 hrs

3rd set: level to 30... use all grantables from the 2nd set
created: A3(60), B3(60), C3(60), D3(45), E3(30)
grantables: A3(0), B3(30), C3(30), D3(22), E3(15)
/played: 12 hrs
total created: 12 * 60 + 1 * 45 + 2 * 30
total played: 48 hrs

4th set: level to 30... use all grantables from the 3rd set
created: A4(60), B4(60), C4(52), D4(45), E4(30)
grantables: A4(0), B4(30), C4(26), D4(22), E4(15)
/played: 12 hrs
total created: 14 * 60 + 1 * 52 + 2 * 45 + 3 * 30
total played: 60 hrs

5th set: level to 30... use all grantables from the 4th set
created: A5(60), B5( 56 ), C5(52), D5(45), E5(30)
grantables: A5(0), B5(28), C5(26), D5(22), E5(15)
/played: 12 hrs
total created: 15 * 60 + 1 * 56 + 2 * 52 + 3 * 45 + 4 * 30
total played: 72 hrs

6th set: level to 32... use all grantables from the 5th set
created: A6(60), B6(58 ), C6(54), D6(47), E6(32)
grantables: A6(0), B6(29), C6(27), D6(23), E6(16)
/played: 12 hrs
total created: 16 * 60 + 1 * 58 + 1 * 56 + 1 * 54 + 2 * 52 + 1 * 47 + 3 * 45 + 1 * 32 + 4 * 30 ... 31 characters
total played: 84 hrs

the accounts (server 1):
A: 60, 60, 60, 60, 60, 60
B: 60, 60, 60, 60, 56, 58
C: 60, 60, 60, 52, 52, 54
D: 60, 60, 45, 45, 45, 47
E: 60, 30, 30, 30, 30, 32

as i understand it, you can boost... but it has to be from an unlinked account. so... using account A, i would boost the remainders:

boosting (use any character from account A that would be good for boosting):
set: A1, E2, D3, C4 ... leaving B off on purpose

as each character gets to 60, swap them out for the next on the account that needs levels
once completed, use C6 to grant B5 and B6 to 60

time estimate... since we are boosting from 30 to 60 on E, the time would be 5 * 1 boost from 30 to 60. est: 8 hrs per boost... 40 hrs

total time: 124 hrs played (add <1 day for the final character ... make it a deathknight starting @ 55)
result: 31 characters

repeat for the second server.

so you could have 62 characters this way with about 248 hrs /played, or less then 11 days
assuming an average of 8 hours per day, this would take about 31 days straight to get 62 * 60.

60 to 70... i'm hearing it would take 4 hrs per level, so another 40 hrs per crew... 10 crews, 400 hrs /played

70 to 80, i'm hearing about 12 hours per level. 120 hours per crew, 1200 hours /played for 10 crews

END RESULT:
62 characters in a best time of 1,848 hrs /played, or about 77 days

assuming 8 hours average played per day, it would take 231 days... or 33 weeks... ~8 months

if you want to make it by Christmas... assuming 220 days until Christmas... you would have to average about 8.4 hrs /played per night.
---

sounds do-able... and strangely enough... i'm reminded of south park

:D

That's a decent time. Could you imagine how little time it would take to level just 36 characters this way. :)

So much prejudice in that thread. And a little in this one, sadly.

All based on uninformed assumption about the state of mind and social circumstances of El.J.

As posted in that thread:

For those in a critical frame of mind I should point out that I am medically retired. Sadly the nature of the medical condition which caused that means I am pretty much housebound and have always loved video games. It all just seemed to fit.

Also whilst levelling I am listening to not only WoW podcasts but several Master Scholar courses and have started to learn German and French.

I guess I should just lay here and watch TV but forgive me for trying to enjoy myself.

For all those who wished me luck - many thanks.

Given the same circumstances, I might just do something equally as "crazy" - though maybe without a deadline ;)

I wish you the very, very best of luck with this and look forward to seeing your multibox Christmas party if you make it!

It's about the same mentality in the comments as the WoW forums - trolls, butthurt pvpers, the "You sell your accounts, maaaaan" guys, and the usual idiocy and nonsense.

Most of them can't get over the cost - most of them probably spend more each month on beer and porn.

Whatever. I stopped listening to them ages ago. So many people have second accounts now, for RAF and boosting, you don't even get a blink if you run two, but five is "Insanity, maaaan!"

LOL. So it goes.

El Jeppy, just ignore the ones who scream "cheater!!" They tend the be the first ones to violate the ToS etc by having names like "Iwilrapeu", trading accounts with friends, rampantly abusing exploits, blah blah blah.

I'm in much the same situation as you, though not medically housebound. My husband works 3rd shift, so my daytime is long after other people have gone to bed. I am terrified of other people, I don't drive and I'm a housewife. Most weeks I only leave my house long enough to take out the trash and get the mail. This leaves me with a lot of time on my hands. I certainly wouldn't want to make a habit of watching infomercials every night 8|

While I don't see much point in that many toons, it's a goal and who here doens't create some sort of gaming goal to go after once the "oooh, pretty!" has worn off of a game?

Everybody eventually succumbs to level grinding. Hell, we succumb to WoW's end game content, let alone level grinding, but maybe this guy likes leveling up characters. So be it. If I were him, I would need a few things that would make this bearable:

A TV in my office (which I don't currently allow)
Music player (which I already use)
A vent server (for conversation)

Hell, I'll let the dude borrow my vent server. It's just sitting there doing nothing without anybody using it. Heck, I'll even create a couple of groups to run with him. I don't think he can do the grind but I'll help him in anyway that I can for as long as I can. I'm going to try to contact him.

Good luck Jeppy!

I was bedridden for a considerably shorter period of time (about 2 weeks) due to an injury, and consoled by the fact that I would have a tremendous amount of time to play WoW. Even in that short a period of time, it was too easy to overdo it. After the first week of marathon sessions I was extremely burnt out. Only you know what your limits are, just remember not to neglect real life on your project.

Yeah, good luck. I've leveled up 50 level 60's, and just 5 to 80 so far, and I am absolutely dreading my second team to 80.

I can't imagine 62.

But goals are good to have, whether it be in WoW or whatever else. Makes you follow through. Never a bad quality in a person.

Taliesin
05-15-2009, 03:26 PM
Sheesh.

I have 7 x 80 now: Paladin, Mage, Priest, Shaman, Warlock, Druid, Rogue. I just bought the hierloom shoulders for the Warrior (60), Hunter (60), and DK (58 ) in preparation that I'll eventually level them up together to 80 as well. The reason I want to is mostly because I'd like to be able to mix my teams up (hunter/shaman on same account, war/pal/dk tanks on same account, etc, like a chinese menu), or just play any class solo at a whim.

I'm not sure Jeppy has any purpose besides just saying he did it. I can't believe he'd sit there afterwards trying to gear them all up and trying to get into raiding/heroics with all of them. But that's just my mentality, I don't do a lot of stuff because there's little gain in it for me (like achievements, collecting mounts, etc). Took me forever to even try Oculus, and mostly did so because I wanted to get the dragon staff for my priest, which I got on the first try, but mostly because I was starting to get low on upgrades without raiding. HoS [luckily] also has nothing I want, except the JC pattern on the last boss, so I'll suck it up to beat just once on heroic eventually (beat it once on regular and never been back).

Good luck!

I know I enjoy leveling. I can out level just about anyone since I've done it so much.
I have currently about 40 level 60's + and 4 new sets in the works. I do have every race. But have only one orc female hunter at 70 and I can bearly stand to look at her. She was my second toon I made when wow was released.
My first was my tauren female shammy. Who made it to 60 in 1 week of release. And has set until bc came out and she is now 68. Now that I can change her from female to a male tauren I'll be playing her a lot more once my new sets catch up to her.

I wish you luck. You will be pressed for time. But what a fun goal to achive IMO. I love to level toons so I can see the challenge and the fun in it.
But I'm also one of those weird people too!! LOL

Hey - this is so possible... El.J. best of luck.

I have 23 level 60+'s from my three month RAF fest last Aug to Nov. - and I work full time - and was only 4 boxing. I have a ton of alts below 60 and really enjoy leveling toons. I have eight ( 8 ) level 80's now and another 13 at ~70. Each team does a different path & is enjoyable. Once you have a "main" team on a server - the rest just rock & roll - money & mats for twnking are a breeze & really accelerate your progress. I don't ever boost - that is senseless - a 4 man team rips through all PVE content and can smoke instances in Azertoth and Outlands when just 2-3 levels above normal.

Whether you grind rep or heroics or Naxx or levels - its whatever you make it out to be. Peace man & keep up the blogging. Its been a bit quiet since 6 May.

Are you thinking he's going to get burnt out, Fur? I wouldn't bet against you. Questing from 70-80 sucks (10-15 times is enough for me), changing factions and re-rolling on a different server can be annoying too. I hope Jeppy accomplishes this though, at least he'll have "the most level 80 characters". I wonder if Sam will activate some more accounts now? :) Sam... where ya at, buddy?

Cheers.

OK folks the last thing I need to end up is to end up in some e-peen competition with anyone especially the infamous Sam. All I can say is if I meet my goals I will be real happy and if not I know I will still have loved the journey.

As far as burn out goes well there is always that danger. I have, however, played on average 6-10 hours a day since retiring with occasional week long gaps so have been in training for this for some time.

I really appreciate the support many of you have given me. I will be looking for a lot of advice over the next few months and I know you guys are the people to ask.

Many Thanks

People post their plans to see what others think and to get feedback and engage in theorycrafting (there is even a word for it), to see if others can fine tune their plan or to just set a goal for themselves.

Isnt that what forums are for?

Honestly if you don't want people to start threads that may be of interest to the multiboxing community having forums seems a pretty bad idea.

I have no idea what your particular problem is with me but I certainly don't appreciate these snide attacks.

I have been a part of the WoW podcasting community for several years at various levels and I like to engage with people in many ways. If that makes me an 'attention whore' in your eyes I can do nothing about that but respectfully ask you do not give me your 'attention' in this manner.

In Fur's defense,

Some of what he writes are things that I am thinking.

To me, I see this forum as a means by which people can talk about MB'ing in general, get tips, reviews and to show "what is possible." I think Mercurio's posts show what is possible once people have "outgrown" 5-boxing heroics.

Even Prepared's posts about massive-MB'ing had some merit in discussing optimal leveling, hardware setup and so forth when running that many sessions of WoW.

Sam's "competition" and ElJeppy's "goal" are simply put forth to bring attention not to something that they have accomplished, but rather to call attention to something that they are doing merely for the sake of doing. If someone wanted to post, after the fact, that they had leveled 62 characters to 80, once of each race and class, then by all means, kudos and congratulations would be warranted. Until that happens, it seems to be simply for attention.

Personally, I just roll my eyes in private. Fur just chooses to be more vocal.

If you're going to post on this forum, be prepared for positive and negative comments. Or are we on Hello Kitty webforums?

Malekyth
05-17-2009, 07:23 PM
Sorry, I don't think we have to choose between raving assholery and Hello Kitty. Somewhere in between there's a forum that lets a person speak his mind without necessarily allowing him to vomit out any counterproductive tripe that happens to pass his mind. Everyone thinks, "wow, this person I'm speaking to is a moron" now and then, but only complete jerks actually say it. Breaking people down simply because you have the option to exert the will to do so isn't cool. I don't associate with people like that normally, so why should I on a messageboard? Well, obviously I put up with it because I'm still reading these forums, but I remember when I first joined, there wasn't any shit flying at all, such an amazing counterpoint to the other places I could go online to talk WoW, and I hope for those days to return.
