View Full Version : A theory for how to effectively multibox Thaddius

A friend of mine runs perfectly on Thaddius with two warlocks, teleporting on half the side changes.
But with the addition of interact with target plus click to move, I've come up with this theory on how it may be possible to multibox 5+ characters (or any number you have enough fingers for) on Thaddius taking full advantage of the stacking buff.

My theory goes like this:
Laying the trust on DBM's polarity change announcer (big message in the middle of your screen) and assuming you can get all characters across the jump reliably (levitate anyone?).
Using the strategy of everyone running straight through the boss on polarity changes (this seems safer and more reliable than running around him even for solo players anyway).
If you bind a different key to move forward on each character, and arrange them on the keyboard (or x-keys, whatever you use),
and can look at all the screens at the same time (nothing more than an overall glance to see the pattern of which windows get the message of polarity has changed),
then press the same pattern of buttons relating to the affected windows, to move those characters forward, through the boss, and letting go once they reach the other side,
and then hitting the interact with target button for everyone, with click to move enabled, this would turn all the characters around to face the boss in their new (or old) position.

Even if they aren't too well lined up, over the course of the fight they should not end up straying too far to either side around the boss for that to be a problem.
And since he has a large enough hitbox (assuming noone uses baby spices on him, we had that happen in a raid with painful results) for melee to hit him from both sides without crossing polarities,
using click to move with interact with target should not bring any characters too close to the middle, and thus not crossing polarities.

My shamans are not high enough level for me to test this yet, but any multiboxers / solo naxxers who would be willing to test this would be great :)

As long as no client lags too much to move (which = death on that fight for anyone anyway),
this should allow the Thaddius fight to become one of the more boxable fights instead of being the least bosaxble one like it is right now.

Assuming this theory works, that is.

And now, please discuss my theory, and let me/us know if you try it and see if it works well enough :)

Note: this all assumes you are able to pay enough attention to the message on all the wow screens/windows to be able to press the right combination of buttons fast enough.
I believe I may be able to do this myself if I don't lag too much, with the respective keys bound to Y U I O P for example, or a setup more fitting to the pattern of the wow windows in the person's view.

mmm anyone tried to burn him down with out doing the polarity switching?
10 yards apart and you should be fine no? and on 10 man he dont have to much HP so maybe its doable?
I have a few lvls left and alot of gear to fix before i can test this though.. :S just wondering if anyone tried?

(thanks for moving the thread, didn't find this part of the forums)

I know the people who have boxed more than 2 characters on him before have done polarity on 1-2 chars and left the rest spread out at range.
But this theory is to allow all characters to contribute to the stacking buff to be on par with solo players for even this boss :)
(and if doable, will make it more possible for people trying to kill this boss either 10-boxing or with a handful of people playing the majority of characters in the raid)

for 10-man as long as 7 people in the raid can pull at least 2200 dps you don't need to stack polarity - all DPSers can spread out across the entire back of the room (some on the edge of the platforms for example) and you will kill him just fine before enrage.

For 25 man each person needs to pull 5500 dps so you do need to stack polarity, since 5500 dps is tough unless you are geared in ulduar25.

Dpsing him down without the stacking buff in 10 man is definately accomplishable...

Thaddius has 30000 health and a 6 minute enrage timer in 25 man, so it really doesn't require 5500 dps per player... if you could assume that no playes would be wthin 10 meters of one another and none would die, you'd need around 4250dps per dps and 1400 dps on your 2 tanks (assuming 4 healers)

As a player, this is one of my favorite fights to fight.. but as a Raid Leader, one of my least favorites to lead.

Just tried this strategy on 25 man, did work to well. As soon as you jump to his platform you pretty much have to be ready to switch FAST cause the shift will one shot you. If your going to box this boss you can't do it will polarities on either 10 or 25 man. Stay far apart and hope the rest of the raid can make up for your lack of dps during this fight.

So they don`t get the debuff when they are there? Sounds like a bug since it could make the boss a lot easyer for everybody. For us boxers it`s even better. If we can get past the 2 bosses before :-)

they get the bebuff, but it doesn't stack so no dmg boost for the non raid melee characters. their DPS is just the average normal DPS. that's not a buf, the raid has to stay focus on its task.. dps as much as possible :)
And I Get there with the down of patcwerk (easy as hell) and grobulus, also easy (just friend up with a healer in your guild) and when the poisoning bomb pop on one of your shamies... go blow somewhere close to the walls (with all your shammies, pop the nature resist totem and cast the healing wave on eachother : easy easy easy :) .

I've been through Naxx 25 with at leat 3 of my 4 shamies and managed do down KT as well (ss below)

the only Boss I can't kill (with shamies alive) is Heigan and its stupid freaking dance !!
