Well folks I have set myself a goal and thought some of you may like to know.

Before Xmas 2009 I plan to level 62 80s. One of each race/class.

Now before you all strap on the flamethrowers let me say this is a goal to give my levelling some structure and to fill the huge swathes of freetime I have.

Your opinions are however most welcome.

Further details can be found here http://tengnomes.blogspot.com/

Many Thanks

I think pretty much all of us that are altaholics and enjoy seeing all facets of groups (healing, dpsing, tanking), but few of us have taken it to such an extreme. I'd be interested in seeing you pull it off, but surprised if you aren't completely burned out by the end!

I've never played alliance so that's one facet that's intrigued me from time to time. Each time I remember that alliance have gnomes and that stops all urges of going alliance.

Good luck!

I see one of your target realms is Earthen Ring, if you need a hand with anything and see Deaditte online, feel free to /w me.

LoL, Fur...

Assuming the original poster has actually played WoW before (unlike someone who shall remain nameless), and given that the OP has "huge swathes of freetime", this wouldn't be very hard to do. It has been my experience that with a group of five characters it takes about 8-11 (/played) days to go from 1-80. If you have R-A-F and can skip the first 60 levels with some toons, then you'll knock off about 16-24 hours from the timer. For simplicity, lets just say that it takes you 10 /played days to go from 1-80. In other words, every 240 hours, you have a new group of 5 level 80 characters. We don't know how much freetime you have, but lets assume you're playing for 80 hours a week. With this timer, it would take you 3 weeks to hit 80 on the first team (5 characters every 3 weeks). We have about 36 weeks left before the year end, 2009. 12 sets of 5 characters (60 total characters) would put him at around 36 weeks. Since the above figures don't include characters that have been granted levels (this can really change the total amount you'll need to play if you can start 25%+ of your team up at level 60), I could see this being possible.

The only downside is that you'll probably get burnt out about halfway through this, and you won't have any decent gear.

Hehe...you have runetotem on your list? I just transferred off there. =P
(There are some good people there on both sides)

Also 10 of the 62 are death knights and start off at 55. And once you have an 80 and can boost, 1-60 becomes almost trivial. Then you only need to boost 36 to 60 and grant the remaining 21 to 60 (if you already have 5 at 80). If you time the boosting right and add in 2 character transfers every 30 days you can get all 62 to 60 before your RAF expires and shouldnt need a second.

First, let me say that you have a hell of a lot more drive and dedication than I could ever hope to have.

...and on that note... What do you think will happen when you achieve this goal? Where do you go from there?

If you want to see what it's like to play one of every possible race/class, try out the PTR or the arena tournament.

My honest opinion, if you're going to set such an enormous goal...you've got to ask yourself what are you going to get out of it? Any sponsors? You would have effectively spent nearly a full year playing a videogame from the minute you wake until the minute you sleep. You can't take any of that with you anywhere. When it's done, you will not have anything to show for it. (I mean this in the most positive way...) I can only suggest that you redirect your dedication to something that would provide you with something more meaningful; like setting a goal to run a marathon? Learn to write add-ons?

Whatever you do... best of luck!

Part of my goal is to play in several areas not yet fully explored. Not only will I be playing Horde to 80 for the first time but I also want to try RP and more fully PvP. As for burn out well we will see :)

I've been playing WoW for going on 2 years now and have levelled 2 toons solo and both a pally and warlock 3 man team to 80 all on EU servers. I also have several +70 teams as well. The only thing is although I loved levelling them it all lacked a structure and I would often paint myself into a corner. My clean slate approach led me to reroll on the US and add structure by setting this goal. As for time I have potentially 16 hours a day (assuming I sleep 8) naturally I am not mad enough to WoW every minute of that every day but it is there to work within. I am also loving your maths. You are right on paper it is very achievable in reality we shall see :)

Great Aussie guild on Runetotem who I am really looking forward to playing with.

Again loving the maths :)

Many thanks for the constructive and level headed thoughts.

You are quite right there are many other things I could dedicate this time to. I should point out, however, that I am now medically retired and due to the cause of that many many things I could do in the past are now not possible.

As for what I get out of it well that may be harder to answer. I have recently discovered the WoW community outside of the game this includes sites such as this as well as many blogs and podcasts. I have embraced these communities and have to a lesser or greater extent become part of them. This past week I have appeared on several podcasts and started my blog http://tengnomes.blogspot.com/ all of which I loved doing. At this stage I guess the words 'Attention Whore' may be flashing in your minds and tbh I don't mind attention but the truth is I would be sat here playing WoW anyway.

As for what happens after the goal is reached well I guess it is gear time :)

Many thanks for all the feedback so far.

I'm risking sounding emo by saying this but our whole lives are really a waste of time. Sooner or later everyone dies and then everything you ever did is gone. Just try to get the most enjoyment you can in your life without screwing up someone else's fun or life. I don't see marathons or mmos having more meaning than the other.

Good luck with what you do, hope to read some updates on your progress.

Any and all alts that I level from now on will be enchanters. There are just too many quest reward items not too once you have the base assets in play.

I saw the thread title and thought "Oh god, not a 62 boxer!". ^^

I wish you well on your venture. You shall have loads of fun accomplishing your goals.

You forgot gender. So make that 124.

Good luck though.

Maybe try doing it by only killing Murlocs? Although, I believe that has been done already.
