Woot! ... I know this is like, the eightieth thread declaring one's bitch-slapping of some heroic or other, but this one is mine!
I finally downed Skadi today, after three attempts over a couple weeks, and a grueling hour and a half this afternoon. This was housecleaning weekend, so I'd do a boss, go work on the dishes, come back and do another boss, then go vacuum or something. Skadi alone got me through the dishes, laundry, and tidying up the kitchen table. Oddly, today most of the trouble came with trash from the gauntlet, some warlock or the priest getting swamped and killed before I remembered to pay attention, and having to reset, sorta thing. Finally though, I shot the big guy's dragon out from under him, and proceeded with the ol' tank-and-spank. It was a thrill after taunting the first whirlwind away from the party, realizing I had the rhythm down and "OMG, I'm going to kill him this time! Really! He's going to die! Finally!" And so he did. Didn't drop a drake, but I didn't really care, the door to the rest of the instance finally being open.
Then it was a hop, skip and jump to King Ymiron, who died on the second attempt and dropped the lovely Red Sword of Courage. I had to check WoWWiki after my tank equipped it, to see how much further I'd need to gear to be uncrittable to heroic bosses. Let's see ... Defense of 552, that should put me just short of ... uh, waitaminute. I'm uncrittable to raid bosses now? Some goofy guildless self-sufficient multiboxer? HAH! Awesome.
The two major highlights of the run were, obviously, Skadi dying and Ymiron's sword dropping, but a third was just as beautiful in its own ugly way. By the time I cleared Ymiron, the instance had probably repopulated itself twice over. The door behind him opened and there was the backside of the first abomination you encounter, in the first room. It didn't occur to me that I could just hearth out, no, I saw a door open and figured I'd better go through it. Took the abom out, then the next three trash mobs WIPED ME. Oh god. Good thing it was an instance, or I'd be really worried that some Alliance had watched it happen and was laughing at me.
Anyway, Pinnacle is my third heroic down, following Utgarde Keep and the Nexus. I just made my first Emblem of Heroism shopping spree for 40-badge belts, and am thinking Loken needs to die next. It's pretty exciting. I never finished a single heroic boss in TBC, so I'm grinning.
