This is going to be the death of me.
I actually started a whole new group, just to farm items to transmute for my main team's transmuter (is that a word?).
I spent most of the weekend just slaughtering the entire n00b zone...and managed to get enough items to get to 21 in the skill....not a typo...21. :S
At least I "think" I can start in on the tradeskill side of it now.
That being said, is there a reliable and up-to-date source for transmuting? Some of the sites I used to use for EQ seem out of date or no longer maintained.

You know what my guild note says? "Screw Transmuting". I currently have 3 level 80 crafters, 4 70+ crafters and 2 30ish. I would rather level ALL of them again than try working on my transmuter, hehe. It's a total nightmare.

You can still buy some low level adept or treasure items to broker at begining ( with some luck you can find some cheap ).
anyway after reaching 100, thats mean items level at 25 if i am right , you can only lvl up in the tradeskill instance then at 104 you can transmut lv 26 items, 108 lv 27....
YES its a nightmare !!!!
i have a guide but its french sorry ;O

Link or post it. We will run it through a translator!!! 8)
P.S. My muter is at Skill L80ish right now (tradeskill only at 16). I went to Tim Deep and did all the starter quests for the L5 and below items to destroy. I had a stockpile of L10-L20 items to destroy in the bank. :)

I have a level 80 in every tradeskill, 3 master tinkerers, and one master transmuter.
Trick to transmuting is that you hate yourself and enjoy mental agony.
Now that being said, do not make any items until your skill is at 100, because your skill will increase just from breaking things down up to 100, after that you can ONLY get it up by making things. So just break thing down, save it all up, and then start making things. Another thing, how high this skill can go up is limited by your level. It might be by your highest adventurer or tradeskill, or it may be limited by your tradeksill level alone, I'm not 100% sure one this. But basically you get 5 skill points per level. Because its a secondary tradeskill so it can't out level it. So collect and break down now, but don't worry about actually working on it for a good while.^ ^ This. I read about muting a little bit first so I am saving all my mats and only breaking stuff till I can't break no more.

Its either adventure or tradeskill level. whichever is higher. Also when leveling transmuting and breaking things down, note that adept 3s are considered legendary in terms of what they break down to when blown up. So when youre making stuff to blow up, adept 3s are the way to go.
I am current around 280~ transmuting and FML.
I got my first 100 from blowing up adept 3s and any treasures items on the broker that were up for less than the rares. I spent roughly 40plat leveling to about 250~ After I ran out of money and stuff to blow up, I just go through dungeons and just blow up adept 1s and treasures items I find.
It also helps to have your transmuting caught up with your adventure level so you can pick up those no drop items in dungeons and blow em up if no one in your group can use it.
And since all of my chars get suits of mastercrafted gear every 10 levels, the dungeon stuff is rarely an upgrade anyway.

It also helps to have your transmuting caught up with your adventure level so you can pick up those no drop items in dungeons and blow em up if no one in your group can use it. This is my main goal. I've got a ton of stuff to transmute, but it's all too high of a level for me just yet.
So I'm having to run a low level team to get junk items. I have them gathering too though, for the extra rare items.

So.. what does transmuting do exactly? I'm pulling a lazy moment and not looking it up :P

I made about 12 mastercrafted/adept III items to transmute and got 2 skill ups! 8o
Do you have better chances for a skill up on items that are closer in level to your current skill level?
I was going to say this reminds me of the old EQ1 tradeskills, but then I remembered that I didn't have to drag 7 things from my backpack one at a time and hit a button. :P

Frosty, I woudl rather drag items into a workbench and click once rather than sit around and do the little mini crafting game for my 25% chance for skillup.
btw for skillups, gray skills have a base 25% chance for a skill up and i believe yellow items are 75%
as for transmtuing, all tradeskills can make adornments through a recipe book. i cant remember the name of the book for some reason... i just woke up. brain dead.
but either way, those books teach all tradeskill classes to make adornments, however none of the tradeskills can break down items other than transmuters. so basically the goal of transmuters is to get it to max skill and then break stuff down and sell them to other tradeskills who want to make the high end adornments.
edit: Enigmas. I remembered as soon as i hit post. damn it. The transmuting books are called enigmas for other tradeskills.
IE Enigma of the provisioner volume 1
enigma of the armorer volume 1
etc etc

I finally got my skill up enough to start transmuting all the junk gear I had on all of my toons.
I can now transmute up to level 19 items (I think). So I should be good to go on getting back out and killing stuff with my team.

Hope you get to feeling better! I'm mentally spamming my "Dump Aggro" macro, but it's not working on the family. :whistling:
