View Full Version : "Disguising" your MB team...

I've been trying to think of ways to disguise my MB team by making them look like they're individually controlled since it's pretty easy to spot the auto-follow huddle.

Just brainstorming here so if any of you guys have better ideas to do this please let me know:

Reading the thread below gave me an idea... if click to move is turned on, and the camera view is (for the most part) set by the /script SetCamera macro and is almost always facing the right direction and the same angle... Is it possible to use /follow to face your team in the proper direction, and use click to move to continually "move" your guys in that direction?

Example (3 character team):

X
A B

"X" is leader. When a movement hotkey is pressed down (Example: Shift + WASD), "A" and "B" does a /follow to make sure they're facing the same direction as "X", then a click to move to X location (slightly ahead and to the left/right of the leader) is sent to "A" and "B" so they take their own individual path to X's future location... since this is somewhat spammed by the movement keys, they will continually "look" towards the leader (or focus/whatever), but path differently because they would be on different "rails"...

Would something like this work? Or is there a simpler way of doing something like this?

Make a key that makes 2 follow 1. 3 follow 2. 4 follow 3. 5 follow 4.

Won't be as easy to spot. (still obvious to the trained eye...)

Well, I'm not sure why you would disguise your group but if you are shy about mboxing or annoyed at ppl sending you /w calling you botter etc.. well they will get used to seeing you around and it will eventually slow down to almost nothing.

I think about half my server tried to report me at some time.. now everyone knows its legal to mbox :D

Yea I don't see why you'd want to through all the effort to disguise your team when MBing is legal. Besides being a pain in the ass to keep correct, seems like alot of work to continually make sure you don't lose 1 or 2. /follow focus works just fine for myself.

I saw an alliance sham group 3 boxing that moved in a 'triangle' formation and was wondering how he did that, and how I could apply it to my groups.

I think the main thing is to name them separately.

Having them in a train is a complete giveaway (that's actually how I thought I was supposed to run in the beginning, heh). Additionally, I think not using huge mounts that attract so much attention is another thing. My guys are still just flying 200gp swift riders they got when I initially got epic flying.

I've landed on the horde zeppelin in Icecrown and there were several guys there all on their epic mounts that happened to match mine. They swarmed up around me and were encouraging all of my guys to huddle up for a screenshot. They honestly thought all my guys were controlled separately even though they flew up and landed together. Perhaps my server may just be full of idiots.

Ah, additional note:

Running a mixed team probably helps too.

Running a mixed team definitely helps, as well as the naming convention. I started out with a shaman group and got some hatorade, but when I started my mixed group I got only a few comments. If you look at my signature you'll see how they're named.

I've never seen guys running in a triangle setup. I have no idea how they would stay on the same path.

As far as one following the other; doable but it'll be toughest for when it comes to turning corners. Your clones "cheat" corners. When going around a corner they don't traverse the exact path of the one they're following. Imagine 5 toons trying to go up a round tower to get to the FP guy.

I can also see your followers getting snagged on something all the time.

Ignore the haters. They don't know you, nor do they have any input into how you should play a video game. No one has the power to make a logical or correct judgment about you simply based on an avatar on their computer screen. That avatar is not your representative; it's only a character you play. If someone says something then ignore it.

This was my "discussion" with a guy in Org the other day:

Fool #1: Why would you waste so much money?
Me: It's MY MONEY.
Me: Not Yours.
Me: My money.
Me: And I can waste my money on whatever I want to right?
Fool #1: True.

And that was the end of the conversation. He was a kid. They're all kids. Don't be bothered by what a stranger who you'll never run across outside of a video game thinks of you, or says to you. They mean nothing.

Run them in V formation. Have 2 and 3 follow 1 and 4 follow 2 and 5 follow 3. Then set a key to have 2 and 4 strafe left and 3 and 5 to strafe right. Then click follow when you are strafing and they follow, running slightly sideways in V formation. That never draws any attention.

Add a tauren to your group, have it ride a mammoth or a kodo. All characters standing at the same spot as him will disappear (The same goes for the moonkin form of a druid).

How to go un-noticed... ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=7545')You know...

You could mount one alt on a mammoth, and the others on horses and accomplish the same thing. :)

It's not about just going unnoticed. There's combat and pvp situations where not being obvious with a follow train or disguising the 'leader' toon works to your advantage.

I use ghostwolf around Dalaran, much less conspicuous and they fit through doorways better than my mammoths.

If you really want to go unnoticed roll a team of rogues or druids and stay stealthed.

Hehehe its so true. I have my fun time macro setup for when alliance start questioning me.

Zomglookout waves his hand.
Zomglookout: These are not the rogues you're looking for.

Having a mixed team does help... but when your pally, Druid, priest, and Mage all buff someone randomly, in the same millisecond - it certainly draws attention to you! Then again, it's good multiboxing PR - everyone likes to be buffed up - and buffing someone 4 times really makes a good first impression!

Running in a triangle or V formation is not too hard. If you hold down your strafe keys for a spread out macro then hit your follow button it will make your guys run in a circle around you. If you then mouse move with your main. they will follow behind you in a V formation.

So, if you were to do this while on your flying mounts... would that make it the "Flying V"?

why would you want to hide it? if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, **ts like a duck it's probably a duck.

I used to be like you and tried to avoid contact but now I really don't care what people think or say.

embrace your true self.... have everyone say "WTF" when someone hits you with a WTF.
yell "singleboxer" back when someone yells "multiboxer" at you.
