Don't panic just yet - it might be a case that the server handling authentication is temporarily down.

hehe I only have 5 days left on my RAF, and getting worried that my mage team won´t make it in time, but you´re right, no need to worry...yet ;)

it is.

the isp decided to do server maintenance and dropped me an email last night.
they give no indication for duration of outage. all sites on those servers are also down.

once the server is back up, your keyclone will activate normally.

sorry about the troubles,

Rob

As the Solid Ice webstie seems down, I guess that yes the authentication server is probably down too :D

Same problem here.
I don't know about anyone else, but I can't log into Solid Ice website as well,so i'm guessing as said before there is a problem with the Auth Server.
...and damn solo playing is sloooooooooowwww.. 8|
Thanks for the update Rob,is there an updated version coming out any time soon?

Rob,

Is there a better way?

I realize you want to ping the server every time so people just don't hand out copies of their license and you would lose money. It just sucks right now because I have a few hours before work and I want to jam and I cannot. I don't know anything about coding could you set it up so if it sees their is internet connectivity but the site is not responsive that it allows it to run anyway?

Or maybe some type of 30 minute trial mode. So when things like this do come up at least people can use it for 30 minutes then they have to reboot or something.

I know this is not your fault I was just wandering if there is some type of work around you can implement to avoid this in the future.

Or maybe hosting a mirror of the authentication server on a different network ? So any outage on one of the servers won't impact the other one

Ah should have checked the forums first.

Thanks for the update Rob,is there an updated version coming out any time soon? actually, i was working on v1.9e when i realized it was out. (grrr) v1.9d is on the alpha page and getting closer to release.

as for a mechanism to allow for 30 minute trials or run-if-internet-out.. they don't work. that's just easy sauce for hackers (just block it via ms-firewall and you get that effect).

i called over there and the guy said he's been getting pounded by the other site owners. (i guess there are over 100 sites effected across their servers getting the maintenance) brilliant. hardware maintenance should never take a site offline, unless it was unforeseen and you had no recovery options. i mentioned the 5 9s to him (99.999% uptime in a year) and he had no idea what i was talking about. (/facepalm) some of their hosting sites are very pricey... and he hasn't heard of the 5-9s of reliability??

/sigh

i've considered the multi-homed approach, and may end up doing it.. especially after the above conversion. sorry about the crap out.

well, i had to get to sleep anyhow.

on an upnote... there is at least one piece of shiny new feature y'all will enjoy :D

Thanks for the continued support Rob. I know we all get cranky when we cant get our morning fix before work. Thought about a cached license 'cookie' that expires (lets say two weeks)? This way if the license site is down .. or you decide on taking a nice vacation, then all would be well.

Too easy to manipulate, is my guess.

Thanks for replying to my post Rob,now I have a great understanding of what to be expecting in the next coming release.

Honestly, he still has a higher % of up time compared to Blizzard. (How we let 90-95% uptime become an industry standard for MMO's, I'll never understand, wish I could say I'll show up to work 90-95% of the time for full salary)

Most of the people where I work are only in about 60% of the time for full salary.

Hey Rob thanks for all your support Key Clone change my gamin experience for the better. Can you tell me how to back up my settings so if something happens in the future I dont have to go back in and set up all my keymaps and such.

I'm sure when you are willing to pay millions of dollars a month for guaranteed uptime then blizzard will change their update policies hehe :)

Seriously though companies pay literally millions of dollars for the 5 9s of guaranteed uptime. I'm not saying I like downtime. I need my fix like everyone else but for 15 bucks a month I can't complain. Besides being in the industry I can understand that things going wrong with updates is more the norm than the exception no matter how much you think you have prepared.

You have a great product here Rob. Great product, great support. What more can you ask for... Keep up the great work!

:D

i remember when wow first started doing the down-on-tuesday thing and thought it was brilliant. they set the expectation and people accepted it. and as a server developer, i thought having a guaranteed downtime window was awesome. they could fit in hardware upgrades, various software upgrades and have no real problems rolling it out. not possible in the real world, as business doesn't tolerate downtime very well.

if i implemented fail-over protection, i would get the 5-9s for keyclone uptime (if not better). of course, that would mean i would double my isp costs every month. in the last 3 years, keyclone outage has only happened a couple of times. not much, but killing the 5-9s possibility. we'll see

@Phanes
all your settings are held within the keyclone.ini file (not counting the keymaps). just copy that somewhere and you should be good.
