Hello, i like to try out new classes etc, so one day, i just thought "Hell, why not try dual boxing and do RAF leveling? I got two computers and all."

However, after checking the forums a bit, i'm just a big question mark. I alwasys thought that you needed two computers to dual box, but now it seems like you can use either one or two computers. Also, i cant figure out how in the world i am supposed to get everything working, and i got no idea about what kind of programs to use, i read about keyclone on the Wiki page etc...

Please help :/ I really want to dual box but i don't understand anything...

We have a pretty good sized Wiki that is set up and should answer all your questions.

http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/Getting_started_by_Wasabiz.

You can easily run multiple WoWs on 1 computer (I ran 5 before I built my second box) as long as it is relatively new. WoW is not really resource intensive, just turn down the quality if you get lag. As for which broadcasting software, I would highly recommend KeyClone for ease of set up.

When you're done looking at the Getting Started page, go to the regular Wiki (link at the top of this page or Here ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki')).

You can box with 1 PC. Generally we box 5 acc on 1 so we can do 5man Heroic.

Okay, so i checked the tutorials, got everything running, but i have this problem... It seems like i cant do anything with the mouse for both of my WoW windows, and it's hard to get the 2nd character to run straight behind the first one (playing 2 shamans) sometimes, if i'm not perfectly synced with the other character, the 2nd just runs away >_> it's kindda annoying...

Also, I can't seem to get Jamba working... Fixed it, logged into WoW, set master on both of the chars, but it doesn't really do anything, cept showing the bars...

Help me? ;(

you put the slave on follow. theres no way to have them run together they will always get out of sync. also the mouse is best left to one screen for beginners. patch 3.1 included a new interact macro function you should do a search and look for it.

check this ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/Multibox_Macros_-_Quick_Start_Guide') out if youre new to macros

as for jamba i dont use it currently so i cant help :(

Alright, well if i put on follow i must always use the mouse to move with my main char, which means i cant use the wasd keys.. Is it meant to be this way?

I'd like to add that while you can box on a single computer, you may wind up sacrificing resolution to do so.

I'm currently 3-boxing shamans on Gorefiend, Horde side. Just hit 60 and questing in Outlands. While I have noticed a slight performance hit in Outlands, my greatest issue is running the three of them through Dalaran which is my hearth point.

My system is not a slacker at all. Intel Core2 Quad 2.66GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Radeon HD 4870 pushing two monitors, Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I even have 4 hard drives (one copy of WoW on each, the 4th for writting FRAPS). I use AutoHotKey to mirror keystrokes.

But I am really pushing the graphics quality. My two "slave" toons display on my 2nd monitor (1280x1024). I use Maximizer to run each at 1280x512 with all video settings set as low as they will go. My "master" toon, though, I run on my primary monitor at 1920x1140 (60 pixles left for Windows TaskBar) with nearly every video setting cranked up to max, except for this new Ultra option that Blizzard just added in 3.1.0.

The result is that I hit Dalaran and the memory usage on all my WoW instances spikes (especially on my master instance) to the point that available RAM is gone and HD swapping begins. As soon as I portal elsewhere, things return to normal. I am somewhat concerned about what will happen at 80 when I'm running BGs, 25-man raids, and arena (and let's not even talk about WG...).

On the bright side, I recently installed Windows 7 64-bit beta on my FRAPS drive to play with. It runs so much smoother in Dalaran that I'm now booting into it for evening playing when I don't need my few non-WoW related things that only run under 32-bit.

My next move will be to upgrade my RAM to 8 GB (only useable with 64-bit OS). If that is not enough, I may consider adding another Radeon card just to drive the 2nd monitor.

you disable the passing of the wasd keys to the slave in whatever broadcasting software youre using.

edit: yeah you dont actually move both characters at once. you follow the main. you dont need to disable the wasd keys on the slave though you just add them to the do not pass list.

in keyclone the do not pass list is in the setup section. you just click the spot it says to and hit the key you dont want to pass. i suggest w,a,s,d,enter, and / as you will not want thos keys going off on your slaves on accident if you forget to pause broadcasting.
