View Full Version : Very disappointed with 3.1, anyone else?

I pvp on one of my warlocks and it seems that they're actually worse off than before 3.1.
They removed a lot of what made Affliction good to pvp with, so it's no good. Demonology got a tiny buff but it's still mediocre at best for pvp. Destruction got buffed and then 24 hours later put back to where it was previously. So, overall, we lost a full tree in pvp and the other two trees remain "ok". This bothers me a lot.
PVE-wise we got some good changes to demonology and destruction. Affliction dps was toned down. Overall I'm extremely dissappointed with the changes done to warlocks this patch cycle. I've never been one of those people who gets so pissed that they think about quitting because their class is so bad, but I feel like I might turn into one of those people soon.
Additionally, it seems that the toning down of DK's and paladins in pvp was some kind of sick joke. Honestly, I feel lied to.
Anyone else feeling this way or is everyone else loving their changes?

Since the patch I have...
Spent 1K gold and will never respec again for needing to heal/dps.
Earned 1K gold faster than ever before because I now have 5dps shaman for questing dailies.
Had more fun than I have in the past 3 years raiding - Flame Leviathan is an absolute blast. I can't wait to take 2nd seat on a catapult!
Looted all sorts of crap 5 boxing without needing to worry about my mouse.
Opened NPC's in crowded areas without any issues. (again 5 boxing.)
All said and done, I think they did a damn fine job with this patch - new content, challenging content, great UI features.

Echo what Zanthor said.
I'm a bit annoyed with the constant addon destruction that every patch brings, but other than that, a great step forward for the game overall.

I think a few things they did just for multiboxers (take that forum qq'ers!) The keybindable interact is the single best thing in the whole patch...paired with Jamba, all I have to do now is target my quest giver, hit F3 (assist), F4 (interact), and my quests are gotten/turned in.
I haven't run an instance yet, so I don't know if I'll like my DKs new spec. Overall however, I like it so far.

I'm not happy with the system for learning new glyphs. Imagine spending 2k gold to learn Glyph of Snake Trap. Prices will come down in a few months. I like the rest of the patch!

Not to totally burst your bubble, but it would seem the new keybindings are targeted more to handicapped players rather than multiboxers. I back this up with the fact that they added color-blind specific video modes this patch as well.
Yes, we benefit from the keybindings greatly - but I highly doubt we were the intended audience. ;)

Yes, we benefit from the keybindings greatly - but I highly doubt we were the intended audience. ;)Specifically the new keybinds were put into place for the support of joysticks and gamepads. This will become more apparent as more support for joysticks comes in the future but if you crack open some of the interface API you'll find references to it.

I have to say I am pretty happy.
The speed at which I am able to play has greatly increased thanks to interact with target.
Dual spec is not really needed on most of my dps toons, but I will set it up on my tanks and healers.
I actually like playing a survival hunter now that the tree make more sense, and there is more to do than wait for Exp Shot cooldowns.
I finally set up macaroon for vehicle use. That in combo with target interact, and lets just say zoom zoom on dailies.
Looks like my frost/arcane mage build is putting out more damage than before, but my ele shammy is less. Need to run an instance to test that more.
Shocked that the "harder" raid content has been mowed down with one boss exception within effectively 24 hours on EU servers. I know hard modes are still out there, but sheesh 24 hours? Me thinks Bliz might have messed up tuning yet again, but time will tell.
Not shocked that everyone and their grandma is bum rushing Ulduar which means I see lots of friends getting disconnected on a consistent basis.
Side comment: My wife's hardcore raiding guild got stuck in Ulduar the first night (all night), right after downing Flame Lev, but before they could loot, they all got disconnected and were unable to get back into their toons! Hahaha... I have to laugh since I don't consider anything in wrath worthy of being considered hardcore. Gimmicky yes, hardcore no.
I was pretty bored with the game and was not playing much, but now with the UI improvements and several tweaks to my setup I find my interest is back. Of course when I get burned out on Argent Tournament, run Ulduar a few times, and try my new shammy team in arenas I will likely let my accounts lapse until the next major patch. Besides the sun is out, time to get outside for some RL fun.
Just for kicks I started a 5 pally team based on posts I have read. Pretty fun, just wish I had made a team when I had RAF. Also wish RAF didn't have a time limit, don't really understand that. Guess Blizzard doesn't think you will keep your friends after you get them hooked? :P

I'll admit I do love the dual-spec change. It will make being able to pvp and pve so much easier now.
Guess I'm just grouchy about the warlock changes after the kick-in-the-nuts-24-hour-hotfix-to-conflag fiasco.

Once BC came out I switched to a resto druid and raided through sunwell. Once wotlk came out I figured I'd pick him back up. I only started multiboxing about 3 months before wotlk came out, so this was all just single-boxing.
I knew things would be rough pvp-wise, but this patch warlocks were promised some balancing and it just doesn't feel like that even came close to happening.

Dual-specs has been implemented remarkably well, with the conjunction of glyphs and binding resets, the only thing you need is Outfitter to be two clicks from a completely different toon.
Ulduar looks fantastic, although Flame Leviathan is the only boss I've been able to participate in downing so far - have spent many hours frozen in or outside of the instance server (sigh). Flame Leviathan is a pretty amazing encounter, as others have noted.
New dailies don't excite me personally that much, although they look to be nicely done.
There is certainly not much new content for multiboxers who don't raid, or things in the way of equipment upgrades for non-raiders. We knew that was the case, however.
For my shammies, the rooting effect from Earthbind totem is fantastic, even running just one shaman. This is going to be so overpowered in PvP and instances with a rotation.
Purchasable iLvl 213 relics is very nice indeed.

The Argent Tournament is great, I just wish it didn't take almost a week of dailies to start earning the Champion's Seals to buy stuff with.
Flame Leviathan is an awesome encounter, I just wish it wasn't the easiest fight in all of wrath (we 1-shot him in 25 on our first attempt ever, without reading any strats)
Keybindings for interacting with your target is a dream come true!
Every single one of my 50+ addons worked flawlessly with the patch. I ran the curse updater while downloading the patch, and everything was 100% perfect when I logged in.
My only complaint is the instance issues trying to raid. We canceled the raid last night after a couple hours of "Additional instances cannot be launched" errors.

My only beef so far has been that I had to re-do my talents on my 4 slaves twice. Logged in the following morning. Started questing and after a bit I was annoyed that it was taking 3 castings almost every time to kill a mob instead of one or two. I didn't think much of it. Then I was in the Coldera by Nexus for the first time and that quest hub has the anti-magic shield around it. Nothing would cast there like treants, AOE, etc when there were some hoard there so I chalked it up to the anti-magic bubble. But a few hours later I went to pop treants and Starfall and they were not working. Thats when I noticed all the druids had a second talent point wipe. Im guessing I went about 6-7 hours of play before noticeing.
The other bit was the MP5 nerf to spi. My paladin doesnt have much to begin with but now at level 75 his out of combat regen is 20. yes twenty. 0 in combat. I have to drink if I want mana or just auto attack on 2-3 mobs with blessing/seal/judgement of wisdom up. It would at least regen out of combat while running around. Not anymore.

I am very impressed - despite the patch day usual server meltdown, it's pretty solid work.
Dual specs rocks, but I'm taking my time researching my specs. I don't 5 box, so my 3 80's getting 2 roles/abilities is a HUGE deal for me, and all those stockpiles mats is going to help make new gear, especially the druid, who needs a complete feral gearing. DPS feels way, way up on balance, too, it just feels stronger.
I LIKE the Argent Tourney, I just started the dailies, and even though it's not boxable, I think I'm going to enjoy doing it all with my 3 guys. Good gold, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that everyone is on the same level gear wise. I'm now excited to see what it's going to be about, I'm going to participate heavily, and I can't wait to see what they're building!
Havent seen Ulduar, probably won't for a while. That's fine. If things work the way I want, I'll be 5 boxing by August, and I can start gearing for possibly getting an alternate slot in a more casual raiding guild for one of my guys. Until then, Youtube works just fine.
There are very interesting things happening with the economy on my server, too, I need to do some browsing the weekend and find some profits - but now that I'll be running AT dailies, it's not as much of a concern.
3.1 for me? BIG thumbs up.

Very happy with the patch myself, ran the new VOA boss last night, Emalon, with my shamans and a decent PUG - 7 wipes but we got the strategy nailed eventually. I would even consider five boxing it i.e. bringing my tank in to MT aswell. If you can hit 2.8k DPS average on a 10 man boss on all toons you can multibox this encounter assuming the rest of the group is on par.
Argent Tournament is fun, lots of people laughing at me multiboxing the mounted dailies, it does look kinda funny :)
Alterac Valley is resurrecting on my BG too which is fantastic news as I love AV :D
Elemental Mastery is crazy - no chance a runner can get away now.
PVE mana dynamic has remained static for me, raid buffs tending to get my MP5 back in line with what is comfortable for bosses. However I am really struggling with mana management in PVP (savage/hateful gear). Maybe it was like this prior to 3.1 - I haven't been PVPing seriously for a few months now - any other PVPers felt a difference?

These aren't new relics per se. All the Naxx dro iLvl 213 relics (totems, sigils, idols - including the aforementioned Totem of Hex) are now purchasable for 25 emblems of valor.
Technically, you need to raid to get badges of valor, but VoA and OS 25 give them, are super fast (well, without the new VoA boss) and are pugged more often then not. Both are easily multiboxable. So if you just run those, it might take 2 months, but you should be able to get the Totem of Hex, multiboxing pugs.

The patch brought the game forward leaps and bounds in core stuff, like Dual Specs (finally!), interact options, vehicle combat tweaks, swimming mounts, etc. It continues to make it 100x harder for any new MMO to effectively complete against WoW, since the core game now has moved forward so much in functionality.
Content wise however its a weak patch. Is the new stuff going to keep you happy for 4-5 months? Because thats how long the next patch is going to take, if not longer.
The Argent Coliseum is fun for maybe a few days. After that its basically just a whole lot of "run here and here and here and here" doing dumb things, plus the rewards are insanely expensive -- 300 tokens for the flying mount, which is going to take weeks of dailies to complete. I just finished my 3d day, got 15 tokens and unlocked the city factions, I'll probably just do enough to get the pet and stop (lol).
Ulduar is awesome for 3-4 weeks, after that its just going to be the same ol. Its nice for hardcore guilds that they have made the fights fairly difficult, but it kind of sucks for me that its so hard. i liked naxx in that I could join a pug on weekends with any of my chars and there was a fairly high chance the pug would clear it. I'm thinking in Ulduar most pugs are just going to kill the first boss, maybe the second, and thats it.
Still in terms of Blizzard overall patches this one rates pretty high in terms of quality and bugs and delivering exactly what they promise.

I would LOVE a new quest hub or two, like Duskwallow, but they havent talked much about it. Maybe the next patch, that would be nice - and not the next major patch, the could add new quests and hubs without needing a major patch.
Plus, tehre's Noblegarden coming, and Orphan's week.
I'm wondering if they're actually going to try and get the next expansion out faster, and that's why there's not as much content - less content = faster development time = more patches and expansions in less time.
Nah, probably not. This *is* Blizzard, after all. :)

After some resets 'good' tactics will be out and I guess most people who've done naxx will be able to clear it after getting used to the fights. It's imho however really nice to have some challenging content again after being bored in naxx for a long while (and I'm running naxx 10 with just one char and a _very_ relaxed / casual raid). To me it really looks like the kara -> za progression in some way. When it came out people where heaving a hard time too until more and more people got the bosses on farm.

Well yes guilds will eventually get ulduar on farm as the same people go in and you silently "not invite" bad players / undergeared players, but like ZA you won't see many weekend-pugs clearing ulduar, probably not till after patch 3.2. There are simply too many fights where there is a ton of AOE damage combined with quick personal responsibility and high DPS requirements. Its a novely instance now so people are willing to stick it out, but in 2-3 weeks most pugs will just disband after wiping 3-4x on a boss, and it can take a lot of tries on each boss to get it down.
Don't get me wrong I think its a great instance, I cleared up to Mimron (6 bosses down, skipped Ignis) on my tank last night in an extremely geared 10 man pug (almost everyone had done 4 bosses in 25 man), but we spent about 7 hours and everyone was in full naxx25/ulduar25 gear. I had a blast because it was the first time doing it, but I doubt i'll run it more than once a month, 300g repair bills are not worth it once you've seen the bosses once :)
The good news though is the first boss is super easy and super fun, and I can see someone multiboxing it. Beyond the first boss is a lot of pain though.

Well, of course players you invite have to be equipped for ulduar and skilled. I hope I don't sound elitist, but imho the second raid tier should require gear and 'learning / skill' from the first one.
Sorry, but I'm all for not inviting bad (though sometimes undergeared is ok if the player a friend or simply a 'good' one) players.
On my server we had t5 and t6 pug raids, so I pretty much also expect that ulduar pugs will stick around.

Well both knowledge of the fights and gear increases rapidly though.

It's the same all the time though, as soon as you know the fights you'll clear them _much_ easier. Typically one will wipe some (perhaps long) time and on the next clears one will two or three shot the bosses :)

Warriors were damn near the bottom of the charts in vanilla wow when it came to pvp. Remember the video of the naked mage beating the warrior in a duel only using rank 1 frostbolt? Yeah, those were the good days for warriors, /rolleyes. Warriors didn't really get decent in pvp until resilience. Well, that and you dumb asses thought it would be a good idea to get in a cage with a warrior and a pocket healer.
Warlocks owned Pre-BC, dot dot dot, well I'm dead. BC they were pretty godly too. Wotlk everyone else caught up to their godliness.
There's a website hanging around somewhere that had a running total of all nerfs that each class has been hit with and in vanilla, warriors were at the top. I have no clue who was at the top since then, I just remember those days. *shivers*
In regards to the OP, this patch has been a constant reminder of the skill level of people that I play with. Beating the new content in under 24 hours? Who cares. They spend all their time preparing for that moment. I spend my time on alts or multi-boxing.
