Living in hawaii and paying for shipping is atrocious, 20 dollars for something small like a harddrive or psu and upwards of 80-100 dollars for a case or monitor. last year comp usa closed down and recently circut city did aswell. there really arent computer stores out here anymore which has led me to make what i can myself. so i came up with this little piece. its basicly made from a bunch of crap i found around the house and old computer parts.

as you can see the bulk of it is just a dish strainer. which ive turned upside down. i didnt realize how big it was and could have most likely fit the mobo in upside down with only one hdd. the hdd is glued to an old car speaker mountand the mobo is sitting on wire connectors. i plan on suspending an optical drive and psu down below the mobo as to allow maximum airflow, i dont really want everything cluttered together

its still in the begining phases, i havent even booted it up yet but i predict itll be a lot cooler than any of my conventional cases. once i hook it all up i plan on setting another box fan at the end and covering it with some kind of plastic with an angle to concentrate more of the air on the goodies and prevent crap from falling into it.

fan <--- pc <--- fan <--air

anyway this is what ive got so far, more to come.

Nothing better than the did-it-yourself ideas. You can also visit virtual-hideout.net. Some of the user submitted pics there are pretty awesome. One guy even went so far as to put a fully working pc into a blow up doll. lol.

I live in Hawaii as well and shipping is a pain from most places. Generally, I do my looking up and comparing and choosing at newegg, then when I figure what exact part I want, I find that item on Amazon.com. For the most part, they are about the same pricing, sometimes more expensive, sometimes less. But, Amazon (Amazon themselves, not the stores that also sells through Amazon) ships for free to Hawaii (and everywhere else) if your order is over $25. Also, if you pay $35 yearly fee(I think) and join their club, shipping is always free. You can buy little $2 items and have it shipped for free and I think many things are even bumped up to 2 days shipping as well under that club deal....(I am not in it), anytime I order anything it is always over $25 without me trying and the free shipping is usually at my doorsteps (actually mailbox since they use USPS) in 5 days. You can also upgrade it to 2 day shipping for far less then newegg charges. I don't worry so much about cost of shipping for HDD's, last one I got from newegg (amazon wast out of stock for one I wanted) was $18 for shipping. Which beats going to bestbuy (if they even have it) and paying $140ish for the same drive and then tax. The stuff that I always buy through Amazon or online sellers that ship USPS if Amazon doesn't carry it are computer cases. Amazon will ship computer cases for free to Hawaii and places like Peformance PC's will ship via USPS which is generally @ $40 for a full tower case...which beats newegg's $80+.

And your point?

Buzz out of the thread, this man is trying to let us know about his special case project, you don't need to horrify us with your blasted little loincloth.

I made a computer on the inside of a cardboard clorox bleach box before. You can use little short wood screws to mount onto cardboard and it works decently. It also had convenient carrying holes.
