Hi all,
Has anyone else using this card noticed a drop in FPS since the patch?
I run this card on my main machine, and since 3.1 the lesser spec'd machines I use for my alts are now out-performing my main machine. 8|
All machines have identical video settings and run identical monitors (1650 x 1080). Dropping the settings on my main machine only results in a gain of 1-2 FPS.
Anyone seen anything similar?
Cheers,
S.

i dont use that card, but.. watever the patch has done i have actualy gained FPS.
normally if i get swamped by 5 aoe'ers in BG my FPS goes down to about 5-6. was not fun.
now it sits at around 20fps when lots of aoe is happening.... so i can actually watch my team get rolfpwned nice n smooooooth.

I run the same card on my main screen, I didn't notice any major difference.
Couple things,
There is a fairly recent Nvidia driver update from April 2nd. Geforce 182.
A quick scan of tech support forum shows more ATI complaints than Nvidia. Not really helpful but best to see if there are a lot of 200 series posts related to 3.1.
One odd Bliz post has me wondering how much they messed around with textures in the game.

Display issues
1. Other character appears mostly black. Shoulders, helms, weapons, and cape are excluded from being black.
This issue seems to be from a new system that we put in place. To disable it, add this to your config.wtf file:
SET componentCompress "0"
You can also enter this command in your chat to set it:
/console componentCompress 0
Hit enter, then restart the game.

The fact that you turned everything off and saw only a tiny improvment... means it will be a bit harder to troubleshoot if the driver update doesn't fix it.
More system info might help. Are the lesser systems on Nvidia as well? All on XP or Vista, 32 or 64...?

There were a lot of new graphics options added, might want to check and see if you didn't auto enable some of them. I for one noticed that my consecration no longer shows its ground effect even with the spell options on high. Other than that, I turned on the High Rez armor textures and I have not seen a change in performance.

I'm running the latest drivers already, so that eliminates the driver issue.
Interestingly I found a post on the WoW Tech Support forums where someone running a GTX 260 had exactly the same problem - so it might be specific to this family of video cards.
I'm also seeing white & black screens before I load up now, which I wasn't seeing pre 3.1. Basically when you launch the game, the screen will go all white, then black, and then the loading screen comes up. Others have posted seing the same thing in the Tech Support forums.
At this stage it looks like I'll just have wait for Blizz to fix. At least I can still play the game... :P
Cheers,

I didn't notice and drop in FPS on my machine with a 280 and two monitors.
I did notice the game loads MUCH faster since the patch, my characters seem to load in a few seconds compared to the 10-20 seconds they used to take.

I was thinking of upgrading my pc/video to use a 280 (or maybe 275) so I hope this gets resolved
I noticed my wow windowed windows show "(not responding)" in the title during load - maybe that's how they made it "faster" by not processing OS events during load; which makes it seems wow hang but eventually come back
I used to have black textures a lot back in bc times; it went away with a patch or driver upgrade I don't remember which

i run a GTX 280 have noticed a drop in fps ... have been hoping it's just cos my server is packed with uld pug's ..... .... but ya ... defo is a lower fps ... but friends running all cards have also noticed a fps drop on my server ... so who knows
There is definitely an issue with the Nvidia chipset.
Peeps are getting the White/black loading screens with the "not responding" title dialogue.
Also having complete Graphics system crashing on startup.
Absolutely atrocious patch. Seriously, it is absolute rubbish. So incomplete and so many people have been having issues with patching, graphics and general game interaction.
It has me completely arsed how they believe that 3.1 was ready for release.
I have a GTX 280 and while I do not have game crashes or anything, I do have the white/black loading screens. It all still works and any frame rate drop would be minimal, but sheesh it appears unstable.
If you go over the support forums, it is a pretty common fault. Yet of course, in true style, Blizz appear to have no clues or inkling to assist. :cursing:

Yes, when Blizz upped the texture resolution on characters, it put a real strain on my 5-box setup. Upgrading my Nvidia drivers to their latest release just made things worse (182.50), so, with nothing to lose, I tried their latest beta (185.68 ) and things are at least stable.
Before, I had my main window set up with higher rez textures, longer view distance, etc.. Now I have to be certain that each game instance has exactly the same settings (full low) or I risk a BSOD. I'm not ruling out that my card is bad (an 8800 GT 512MB), but Blizz upping their graphics has definitely put the hurt on my 32 bit XP 4 GB ram setup.

Am having lots of trouble since 3.1 too.
Am using a GTX 260 and been running 4 clients without any problems pre-patch (one 1024x768 @ high settings and three 800x600 @ low settings). Well, now am getting lockups while doing the argent tournament dailies. At first its a few seconds freeze on all clients. Those freezes get more frequently over time and finally lead to texture clipping issues. After a while one or more clients will perma-freeze or crash.
My graphics card isn't overheating, it's running @ 60°C. I didn't change anything except of applying that crappy 3.1 patch...
