I attempted Skadi last night for the first time on Heroic and wiped about 20 times. Never got him down. There was one underlying problem on every attempt: the transition. I do the reset trick where you farm the harpoons, aoe the spawns in the room and shoot down the boss in about two passes.

The problem then comes when the boss drops. First, it was picking him up in time before he whirlwinds the healer and dps. But when I got that figured out, there were random witch doctors and harpooners that would shadow bolt my healer in the face and kill him. Or shadow bolt my tank while tanking Skadi and be too much damage.

My question is, how do you handle these remaining adds properly? The initial army spawn went down fine but the two runners that would spawn throughout the fight, run down the hall and run back up would just wreck havoc on the group. Any trick to cleaning up adds during the transition?

1 - When the boss whirlwinds, taunt him AFTER he starts moving. He'll follow the tank if you taunt.

2 - LoS all the ranged casters. Yes, I know this is a pain, but you have to do everything in your power to keep aggro on these guys. Dropping a consecration in the doorway where they spawn helps a lot.

i was farming skadi daily in under 18 mins (didnt get a single mount to drop btw) until my gametime expired. here are some tricks:

1. try to have a DK tank, they take damage much, much, much better than other tanks. I would pop all my CDs before one of my other guys aggrod skadi, and I didn't have to throw a single heal on the DK tank until skadi came down

2. move all your guys (except 1) to the little room. put them way in the back, drop all your totems, before your outside guy aggros skadi drop magma totems (no threat AOE ftw)

3. always have D&D or consecrate down in that room. otherwise guys run out and all the way down (still can handle it but just easier when you dont)

4. drop healing totems when in the room, switch one to a poison totem when skadi comes down

5. when you can bring your outside guy into the room and facing the right way

5. when the room is cleared (i can do it 1st pass but you can wait till 2nd) have your tank run out with harpoons and bring skadi down, keep D&D down in the room for any adds that spawn during the time you are shooting. have only your tank hit skadi a few times before you start DPSIng, keep healing the tank during this time.

You shouldn't move your guys outside the room at all, just keep skadi in the middle of the outside end area and your guys inside, and just taunt when skadi is halfway between you and your guys -- use two taunts usually (death grip & dark command on DKs) since he will usually bounce back and forth (dont let him get into melee range of your DPSers).

it takes quite a bit of practice, I wiped 40+ times on him with my pally before I kind of got it down, strangely enough on my DK it only took 3-4 wipes and after that i 1-shotted it for 2 weeks straight. Once you get it down, you can do speed runs - skip first two bosses and just do him, takes < 20 minutes.

i've made it past this guy a couple of times. I have a pally and 3-4 shaman and sometimes a moonkin.
I place shaman and/or moonkin against the wall opposite of the room, between the harpon and the column, closer to the column. you don't get hit with his frost breath from here.
usually I can clear all trash without a problem from this place. I've even had my team drink once or twice while waiting for him to get back around.

once he drops I try to tank him at the entrace to the room so he's at max distance from my team.
when he spins he goes for my team and I stop DPS and hit him with the single target pally taunt ( the avenging shield didn't work for me... at ALL )
if you time it well, he should be at least 1/2 way to the team before your tank tants ( and I have winds shocks ready on the shaman )
this reduces the time he's on my tank if he wasted time headed to the shaman and wasted time getting back.
restart DPS when he stops spinning and most times I can kill him before he does it twice... most times.

not fool proof by any means but I usually get past this with only 1 or 2 team wipes.

I do assume you watched the heroic video from UP?

If not you can watch mine i run nearly the same setup only i use a ele shaman instead of a BM hunter-> http://www.wegame.com/watch/Up_heroic_multiboxed/

Like already mentioned DK shine on this encounter thanks to death grip, strangulate ++ all the cc he can use on the casters.

The harpooners net you and run away wich is annoying + the meele's hamstrings you. Use your tools (hand of freedom and 2x masters call.
Shadow res aura counters the shadow casters okey but not nearly enough.

ALWAYS kill the shadow casters first, thoose shadow bolts hits hard and fast. The harpooners dont hurt nearly on the same level.

When Skadi lands i ususaly pop divine protection to make the transiton less stressful.

Thanks for all the advice guys. It seems I'm on the right track, I just need to get better cleaning up the adds, especially the shadow caster. I've tried all the many different positioning and it seems having the dps and healer parked by the harpoons seemed to work the best for me. Going to try it again tonight.

For me the trick has really come down to controlling what type and how many adds are up when I bring Skadi down - If I lose track of the shadow caster guys it will usually mean a wipe for me still even though my crew really out-gear the encounter.

From your post(s) it looks like you've got the gist of the encounter down, honing your execution is probably your best bet.

Skadi is toast! First attempt tonight.

The trick was in fact making sure all the adds are taken care of first before pulling boss. What this meant was that I had to wait until the third or fourth pass while I cleaned up casters and harpooners. It was piece'o pie after that.

Went on and one-shotted the King. Then cleared all of HoL for the first time; got Loken down first attempt ever (even got the 2 minute kill achievement).

Everything else just seemed so much easier after Skadi. That encounter really helps you fine tune your reactions and toon coordination.

Thanks again for all the help.
