I read on the forums recently, someone expressing interest in performance *proof* of these new Core i7 system builds that many of us have been raving about. So I threw together a few screenshots of my dualboxing setup under different conditions. First, the stats:

* OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, build 7068
* Processor: Core i7 920 (2.6ghz), Hyperthreading disabled, Overclocked to 3.2ghz, aftermarket aircooling (load temperatures shown in screenshots)
* Motherboard: EVGA X58 SLI
* Memory: 6gb Corsair DDR3 1600
* Storage: 300gb Western-Digital Velociraptor
* Graphics: VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 (512mb)
* Display: (1) 23" LCD, 16:9 -- (2) 22" LCD, 16:10

Now, the first screenshot is both clients while zoning in to Stormwind. Not much to see, task manager shows the cpu cores starting to rise. Core temperatures are below 60.

This next one is the stress test. WoW settings are at max, minus weather and shadows. I've increased the max background framerate for the slave to 60 fps, for this particular display. Primary client has no foreground cap. Task manager shows memory is very close to being maxed. I could definitely go for an upgrade and boost this to 12gb. The reason there is so much ram usage is because... there are a lot of things running! uTorrent, Photoshop CS4, media player, steam, firefox... oh and the two WoW clients :P

This final screenshot is with cpuz and eleet in the foreground. I had to close photoshop... the system was beginning to use virtual memory. Still, after trimming down the running apps, things are smooth as silk.

Ya this is the kind of system thats almost impossible to beat, also at some point 24G will be available and then you can run all of wow in ram.

Wonder what AMD will have to compeat.

You do any blu-ray video editing with this system? I might get one, not for wow but for blu-ray editing.

While most people (phenoms, Q6600s, etc...) can boast a whopping 2-6fps for 1080p re-encoding, I've managed between 20-30fps.

And that's all done by CPU and none by GPU?

Nice man.

I just checked and my Q6600 setup turned a year old yesterday. It may be time to upgrade. :)
