Ok i am a 5x boxer doing Shamans.

Starting this week, everytime i log on and do anything i am disconected within 20 minutes of play.

After i get disconected from wow, i also cannot load a web page for like 1 minute- 2 minutes after the disco.

I seem to get internet back faster if i repair/dissable my internet and re enable it.

I have no idea what is going on here!!!...????

Is it my ISP, or WOW? I have to troubleshoot this thing threw, cause now way in hell im gonna paw for 5x accounts i cannot play.

Extra info: I run Smoothwall as my hardware firewall solution. (Linux based). might make a difference i dunno, if it does ill try to load ZoneAlarm and dissable my hardware to see.

Please help.

I doubt the problem is native to WoW since WoW generally isn't going to make significant configuration changes to your computer's network interfaces and related systems. Does it seem like you're having ANY network trouble on your computer at twenty minute intervals, or is it just when WoW starts up (and has been running)? If you are playing on a Linux system (and props if you are), let us know what the ifocnfig output looks like once you have trouble (this also applies if you're playing on a Mac). If you're playing on a Windows box, would you post the result of ipconfig (a command in the command line) so that we may check your general network interface configuration?

Also, when this happens again, would you mind trying to ping some website? It would be interesting to see just what sort of network abilities your machine is left with after this sort of failure.

Sorry I couldn't be more help right off the bat.

Don't know if this helps, but after a patch a few months ago I started having that problem.

In the end for me it appeared to be related to cpu. I was using the affinity to spread out usage over all four processors somewhat evenly and when they would all hit 100 usage plus read/writes I had problems. Now I always leave at least one processor with only one instance of how wow attached and I don't seem to have that issue anymore.

Just start up a ping test when you first get on... leave it running in the background.
if you dont know how to start a ping test its Start -> Run -> type CMD hit enter and it will bring up command line.... here type ping 4.2.2.2 -t
Just let it run while you play then when you get disconnected check your ping stats. If its still going fine then its not your int connection. If its missed 4-10 in a row... thats long enough to boot ya.

If you can't view web pages after the WoW disconnect it is definately your isp, firewall, or modem, next time it happens look at your modem see what the lights are doing.

This exact thing used to happen to me. I have my cable modem in the garage on the same power outlet that I have a freezer on. Every 15 minutes or so when the freezer would cycle on it would cause a small power drop and the modem would reset. Takes a min or 2 to get back and running. Fixed it by replacing my power outlet. Try plugging in a laptop or something to your router and when you get disconnected see if the laptop maintains it's connection. That'll tell you if its your computer or its your router/modem/isp.

Things to try

1. One wow all by it self
2. Internet directly to your PC bypassing as much as you can. (scary yes, but it will isolate it)
a. one wow
b. many wows
3. Add components back in until you get a failure again

Take note of anything specific you are doing in wow when this happens.

There was a bug, long time ago, with a specific DSL modem where every time I turned in a quest it would cause the the modem to crash. I would have to completely reset the modem. Fix was to put a router between the PC and the modem. Crazy huh?
