you need a 64 bit version of something cause 2g most likely wont cut it. and that looks like your bottleneck. i have the same processor and a similar vid card but im running vista64 with 8 gig ram and its smooth as butter.

Hummm, if you have 8GB it should see at least around 3 or so but this line:

(4) 512MB DDR2 PC6400 800MHz DIMM Memory

shows you only have 2GB, did you have more installed?

that was what was in the system when i bought it, I now have 8gigs of memory in it and on my system properties it shows 2gigs being use

you NEED a 64 bit OS if you want to use more than 2g of RAM

Yes that what i figure i just didn't know that i was only using 2gigs till now

now my next question is should i upgrade my 8600 graphics card or not

reason i ask is that the prices have come down alot on the better cards and i can afford to get a new one

as i want to be as lag free as i can be and getting a newer better card might help or would it be worth the upgrade

Cheers and thanks to all here

Since the obvious (ram added, needing a 64bit OS) has already been covered, I would point towards overclocking your Q6600 then video cards.

What made this processor great was it's ability to OC to 3.0ghz and beyond with simple aftermarket air cooling. If your system has a decent cpu cooler and the bios isn't locked down, I would experiment with boosting the CPU frequency next. This should be a free upgrade, so I highly recommend it.

As you noticed, video cards have increased power and decreased in price A LOT since the 8000 series. I can tell you that an upgrade from my 8800gts to a new 285 made a world of difference and I now play at max detail on my main monitor. Video cards have price points to suit all needs, but a GTX260/285/295 should provide you a noticeable-to-considerable upgrade.

you NEED a 64 bit OS if you want to use more than 2g of RAMThe number is actually something like 3gb of ram. And you can force WinXP to address more member by adding a /pae switch to your boot.ini file.

i try that switch that you mention still at 2gig

i found vista home 64bit Os on tigerdirect for 109 dollars goin to save up and get that

anyhow my last question is this should i go ahead upgrade my Graphics card or not i want to get steady frames on all my guys and be able to go

thu these cities and BGs with out much problems

Wait and see how much of a difference it makes to actually be able to use all of your ram.

Your system should run just fine with windows and 3 gigs.

I am running about the same setup you are without a problem Cities don't give me any trouble.
The only difference is I have 4gigs but being on windows xp my comp only sees the max of 3.45 gigs.

I think some of your sticks are bad or loose. Check that first before you go upgrading anything. Make sure you have the right ram in it also.

Check your video settings. I had to force my computer to see the last gig. I don't remember how we did it either. You might also try taking out 4 gigs. They are pointless to have in your system as it sits right now anyway.

Edit.. I noticed your asking about upgrading your video card. I was 5 boxing off of a 7600 card again with little trouble. Your card is fine. I would stick with something is wrong with your ram. IMO signs are there with it only seeing the 2gigs. It should see 3 at least...

With 8G you should see more then 3G, if you see exactly 2G something is wrong.

I see 3.1G on a normal computer with 4G (look in task manager preformance)

I get 3.6G on my computers with readyboost .5G ram onboard.

ok i try remove some of my memory to see if that helps as for my task manager is shows physical memory
total 2095580
available 1560324
system cache 622252

Kernel memory
total 114712
paged 72728
nonpaged 41000

but on my system properties general tab it shows 2g of ram
i am running windows xp home that would be the reason why i see only 2 gigs

i don't have the 64bit vista yet but i will soon

XP Supports 4 gigs of ram total. BUT that includes your video card memory (which is 512K or 1/2 a gig) . So you should see at least 3.5 gigs available.

I think that:
1) You don't actually have 8 gigs, you might have thought you got 8 gig but only got 2.
2) You don't have it installed correct, or your motherboard doesn't recognize that memory. For instance, you bought 2x 4 gig DIMMs and the MB isn't seeing them at all.

I'd bet on #1.

no i bought 8 gigs so i thinking its not showing up
or not show up right on the page cause when i put them in my computer got like 10 times faster in everything
i got 4 x 2gigs installed i going to take 2 of those out later this week can't do it right now due to some things i need the computer for

cheers

UPDATE
i reboot my computer all 8gigs show up in the bootup screen so they are there
i will be buying the vista home 64 bit unless i should get something else

Sounds good you will get to use all 8G with vista 64 (but each application is still limited to like 2G - but thats per instance not per all wows).

Man, I love it when a reboot fixes everything.
