Questions about Dual Boxing on 1 PC

Hi all,

FYI this will be my first attempt at dual boxing (figured i would start with two then move on from there)

Question #1. I am assuming you need 2 WoW accounts. Follow up, how do you get the second account without installing a second copy of the game?

Question #2. I just built a new PC configured with dual nVidia 8700gts cards running in SLI mode. Will I be able to dual box on one monitor with that vid card setup?

Question #3. I have my PC hooked up to a 47" Vizio HDTV (through a DVI to HDMI cable), do you forsee any issues using that as my monitor?

Hopefully the answers to these questions will be enough to get me started. My apologies if these questions have been answered elswhere in forums, i searched but did not see any related topics.

Question #1. World of Warcraft can be run multiple times per directory. So install it once you can run it how ever many times. You still need to make another wow account by going out to buy the game and getting the CD out of the box to register it on the site.

Question #3 Uhh first WOW! I used a HDTV for a monitor befor thought it was going to waste so I downgraded. That being said. I really do not know if you would run into issues. But I do not think it will matter.

Q3: Why a 47"? Much of that is wasted vs say a 30" LCD.

Pixels are larger basically.

Well the 47'' is also my TV and what I play my xbox360 on, so i figured why not hook up my PC to it as well.

I have a nice 22" widescreen flat pannel monitor (2ms refresh rate).

more than likely that 47" tv has a shit resolution for monitor support. I know my 42" tv supports up to 1024x768... ie HUGE fucking pixels.

No, the Game looks amazing!!

I wouldnt play the game on this thing if it looked like crap, in fact i wouldnt have even bought it.

I have it set on the highest rez (1920 x 1080) Of course its hooked up through the HDMI port.

All the settings for WoW are as high as they will go, and I still dont drop below 60 fps in Shattrah or IF.

Its like watching a High def movie, It is incredible how good the graphics are.

yeah, vizio makes some really good tv's ive got their 32" one sitting infront of me, i was thinking about hooking it up to my pc...dunno though, its kinda big for my taste....although that would give me a 2nd monitor

We've had the exact opposite experience with Vizio. My father has the 32" LCD as well (bought in Aug '05) and it worked well for roughly 1.5 years. Then it started having power problems and would flicker on and off randomly. One day, it just ceased to turn on. We called Vizio and they told us (literally), "we'll call you Tuesday"; that was a Thursday. Tues. comes and goes, no phone call. We call Wed. morning and get, "expect a call Sat."

$10 to who can guess what happened.

So, after three more phone calls, we get a tech sent to the place we were staying. He arrives and he's an independent contractor hired to repair Vizio TVs on the side. Vizio sent him a power panel for a 42" TV instead of the 32". After sending the part back and waiting 11 days, he shows up again with a power panel for the right model. He swaps it out and we have no change. After more testing, we found the problem was with the main board.

Another part return and another wait (6 days this time) before the tech arrives again. He swaps the main board and the TV works beautifully. The catch? He presents us an invoice from Vizio for the parts; all three of them. The TV is still under warranty (3 year). The bill for all three parts came to just shy of $900, almost equivalent to the cost of the TV back in '05. I'd buy a new fucking TV for $900. Fuck fixing it at that point.

After arguiing through about 9 people at customer service, we spoke to the regional parts dude for them for the Northeast U.S. and got every charge wiped clean after 2 days.

Long story short? I will never, ever purchase from Vizio. Fuck them.

WoW, that sucks having to go through all that. I wish I would have read your story before I bought one. I did alot of research (read hundreds of posts) and the majority seemed very pleased.

Hope I never have to contact customer service!

It makes one Helluva monitor, especially using it for two boxing from one pc, like having two monitors built into one.

I am going to add an opinion here....

I have two copies of wow installed now because it is much easier to keep them seperate on my "bot" character because I really like to play him stand alone and not with all his drone commands which I have to setup differently than when I play him normally. (because I have to ensure that the keys arnt too awkward to work with when I am using the rogue as the main)

I highly recommend Trinity bars, as you can simply create extra buttons that simply in no way affect the blizzard defaults, and create duplicates with different "add on" locked keybindings..

Not to mention having two copies of wow keeps two completely two different settings and stuff too :)

The other advantage to the dual WoW directories is the Interface folder. I like to turn off Auctioneer and its ilk along with Omen, DBM, NECB, LootLink, etc. on my drones. My drones sit at around 8MB memory for AddOns.

I just created 3 different WoW directories. 1 for when i play 'regular' and 2 for when i am dual boxing.

Now if i can just get keyclone activated, i will be in business.
