I read something interesting the other day about collection quests. I want to say it was either from WoWinsider or a Blizzcast, but the basic premise was that they adjusted collection quests so that the longer you spent killing the mobs for drops, the higher the chance they dropped the item. Has anyone else noticed something to this effect? I earned loremaster of Northrend on my whole group, and I don't recall it being too painful, but I do recall drops getting progressively better for quests as I did them.

I'd like to think they would finally do something like this, but I have yet to notice any such effect. Perhaps I'll pay a little more attention next collection quest.

I don't suppose you remember if they implied if that type of logic was added to all gather quest drops, or if it was perhaps built-in to all Lich gather quests?

I'd say that Lich definitely has felt the least painful for gather quests than all the other ones up through Outlands. I'm working through Outlands again right now on my druid and haven't really sensed any change there. I've done 6 characters previously through all that content, so I think I have a pretty good sense of drop rates by now.

It's been a while since I've really done any old world gather quests, so can't comment there.

IMO there were only about a dozen or so that took longer than they probably should have. I never noticed anything like you mentioned.

I have notiched that when I farm an area with mobs, they start spawning really quickly - which is nice :)

I seem to recall something regarding this in one of the previous patches, where they implemented that if a certain mob is being farmed and die fast, they will respawn faster to help the players get theire quest goal achieved.

This is called dynamic respawn and they implemented it with 2.1 or 2.2...

But this can be dangerous too. It has happen to me more than once, that I entered an area and killed some quest-mobs. I didn't notice that someone just left the same area as i entered. So I thought, there are only a few mobs and charged straigt into them. After a few seconds, the dynamic respawn popped back up and had its fun killing me.

The progressive quest drop was mentioned at GDC http://www.wowinsider.com/2009/03/28/progressive-drop-rates/ ('http://www.wowinsider.com/2009/03/28/progressive-drop-rates/')

Interesting. This morning I did a quest in Howling Fjord to collect 3 frost chimera horns for those walrus people things. My main prolly took a good 13 kills or so to get all 3 drops and was the first to complete it, and the last two toons to get their drops both got all 3 within 3-4 kills. Ive done a few collection quests and did not really notice anything, but today it stood out and I just passed it off to good luck for not taking forever.

Well I hope that it changed something, I've pretty much sworn off doing anymore collection quests, ever again.
