http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9175661&st=geforce+9800gtx&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1218045946193

what i was thanking <didnt get to deep into it> is adding something like
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=A1223217&cs=19&c=us&l=en&dgc=SS&cid=39715&lid=1003767

and turning my set up into

screen x4
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8894039&type=product&id=1211587387558

what i dont thank would work is the 1x video card to run all that and the fact iv never used a cable thange like that not a clue how it would work

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that splitter just lets you display the same image on 2 screens, not run 2 screens independently.

The ATI 4850x2 is the only single-card I know of with built-in support for 4 monitors...

http://reviews.cnet.com/graphics-cards/sapphire-radeon-hd-4850/4505-8902_7-33421567.html

No idea if a 4850x2 will run 4 WoWs on 4 screens with an acceptable frame-rate, though.

no ideal really dude if that is infact what it dose then that raises new ways to do it my motehrboard can only hold 1x 9800gtx is it possible to add a second < different > kind of video card to the system i have laying here an ati card could both be ran in this system?
if that where posible id only need a 4th screen i have a 3rd laying around lol
also brings into play me needing a bigger powersupply aswell lol lets stick to the basic matters of what the system can handle atm

mother board has
2x pci express x14 slots and
1x pci express x16 slot<<<<<<<<<holding the geforce 9800gtx

if i get a second card of some unknow type can it fit into a x14 slot along side the 9800gtx and both cards be used?

LAWL THERYCRAFTING IS FUN MAUAHAHAHA

please please please do not buy from bestbuy!!! (for video cards)
that card is worth 150 at the most, the gts250 is cheaper (same EXACT card with higher clocks and lower price... wierd)

shoot me your computers specs, and your pricerange to upgrade hardware (video card wise, not monitors... i'm of no value there) and i'll try to steer you in the right direction friend!

lol im forcet to buy from bestbuy its the only place i have a credit card for lol fail i know but fuck it
any way this is my computer i added ram and a new video card to this system
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9081325&type=product&id=1218017465909

9800gtx is the video card im using

brasssmunky
04-01-2009, 10:21 PM
so um, you replaced your 4850 with a 9800gtx?
.... lol. cards are very very similar in performance.

and you want to add another? i'm assuming you have at least 2 pcie slots because you have an i7, meaning x58 chipset

you can add another 9800gtx and run 4 monitors yes, each video card will have 2 monitors
buuuut, i'm sure your mobo won't support sli because gateway is cheap like that and didnt buy the licensing for it
so you won't ever be able to setup the cards in actual SLI
you won't be able to get 4 monitors out of either one of these cards alone (4850 or 9800gtx) but if you havent changed out your video card yet, go with another 4850. if you have, go for the 9800gtx.
you can't really mix-match, windows doesnt like 2 driver sets

matexoza
04-01-2009, 10:43 PM
lol homie im ganna tell u hands down if u thank that 4850 is a good card your flat out a tard that is the absalute worst video card iv ever owned in my life not only did it crash every 15-20 min<drivers> it ran very poorly with 4 wows up
in absolutely no way dose the 4850 come close to the 9800gtx granite thats my opinion iv used both and i hate the ati trash
<still have it if u want to buy it lol>

and no the board will not support a second 9800gtx if you read the specs on the system then look at that of the 9800gtx there is no way to fit it into the baord it will only hold 1 x16 pci express card
but it dose also have the slots for 2 x14 pci express slots left open

now im not the best with hardware but im prity damn shore i cant putt a x16 card into an x14 slot lol

so that being said

it looks like im back to that guys option of The ATI 4850x2

has any 1 ever tried using this card from what i see its 2gig ddr3 video with 4 monitor slots so seeing as how this is my only option from here without <replaceing the case power supply and motehr board>
will this card handle 4 19" lcd screens with 4 wows at 55-60 fps per window?

brasssmunky
04-02-2009, 01:16 AM
i'd be more than happy to take your 4850 off of your hands :P i'll pay the shipping :P

and, it performs on the same level as the 9800gtx. you had some problems, but those were "driver issues" which i can guarantee are problems on your end.

now, i am not sure how the layout of slots is on your motherboard, i've never heard of an x14 slot in my life... x4 yes, but no x14.
if you could take a well lit picture of the inside of your case so i could see the setup, i could assist you further.
if you're so worried about driver issues, an x2 card is not the best option.
if you only have an x4 slot, you can still put a video card in it, assuming the back end is open and not closed (of the slot) but it will be limited to the speed of pciex4 2.0 (same as pciex8 1.1) not sure what kind of cards bottleneck at that bus speed... a 9800gtx just might, but im not sure by how much if at all.

also, if someone is helping you, i'd appreciate it if you didnt mouth off and call them a "tard" and use gangster talk to convey your thoughts.

matexoza
04-02-2009, 04:35 AM
lol the gangsta talk isnt really that to me its just cuse of where i live lol its how i grew up talking and ya wasn't meaning to be an ass but i Sirius dont like the 4850 i thank its trash ill take a pic latter today < shammys are about to break 74>
and if you really do want the card just make me an offer

<lol yano i just realized that both cards are about the same <1 it came with and 1 guy linket is basicly the same card lol the card i had originally is the single card 4850 not the x2>

just maken shore its not the 4859 x2 you thank im using

A prebuilt system....icky.

Side note: Even we don't really *NEEED* 16 gigs of memory, I rarely use up all of my six while five-boxing, and that's only if I'm running in circles around dalaran on a busy day.

04-02-2009, 10:52 AM
good to know then ill just got for 8 gigs ;p

any how i took some pics for yall to pick at
i dont thank i could even fit a second card into the case without geting a new case even if the x16 fit into the x4 lol sooooo that leaves me with 1 option if i want to run 4 screens
is that 4850 x2 ati card which is basicly 2 of the 1 card i was using befor i got the 9800gtx lol

how will that 4x screen card run with 4 wows/ 4 screens <seams the 9800gtx is putting off some heat when i hade it open will the 4850 putt out more?> im gessing so and if thats the case how hot can it get <my computer rooms in the basment and its all ways cold as shit>
so basicly i need to know mroe about the 4850x2 card time to read some reviews lol

quad box rig ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=20667')

Two things.

3GB of Ram.
No. Just no. At the bare minimum double that. You most likely want to keep it in multiples of 3 so you can keep it in triple channel. 3->6->12 are the easiest amounts.
9GB would be funky to get, but possible.
I would also make sure the motherboard isn't that Gigabyte board with only 4 DIMM slots. (On a side note, why the hell did they do that? That was the perfect board for me, except it couldn't handle 12GB)

and Power Supply 500W Power Supply.
You will need a bigger power supply for the 4850x2.
Especially with all that extra unneeded shit that the company you bought it from threw in there.

My personal build:
i7-920
12GB Ram
4850x2
30GB SSD

I can't wait to get home to put it together and play. :)

Make sure your case can fit the 4850x2. This card is longer than 4870x2 cards. I have this big ass case called Cooler Master HAF. It's a bad ass case and has tons of room.

brasssmunky
04-02-2009, 05:06 PM
k, i doubt you have enough room for a 4850x2 :/
&, to the guy who posted above me... the HAF is a beast, i love them cases :P

your video card is the GTX+, which is like an overclocked 9800GTX with a 55nm chip, its going to run cooler and be more efficient
i t seems you have another pcie16x, the dell site says you have one, meaning one available
if you want to run dual video cards, put your old 4850 back in, and add another, assuming it was a singleslot, it seems your motherboard doesnt have enough space between the 2 pciex16 slots for dual 9800GTXs which is unfortunate.

if you're looking for a dual card setup, or even for a 4850x2 setup, you're going to need a new psu, and some better airflow. get a fan for intake in the front.

only viable option i see here is for you to run 2 single slot cards. so, reference 4850s, 9600/9800GTs(or8800gt, same card as 9800gt)
(mind you, reference single slot 4850s run hot hot hot)

04-02-2009, 05:35 PM
well how is this for an ideal them i have 1x 4850 single card that came in the system i still have it i could probably trade my 9800gtx in for a second 4850card do you thank that is my best bet?

matexoza
04-02-2009, 06:33 PM
ok good news i just drove to best buy and the guy said i could trade my 9800gtx in for the second 4850 problem is they dont have it in stock meaning i need to prity much give them my system for a hole week ='(
<dont want to putt it in myself>
the best news is that the 4850 is 50 dollers cheaper then the 9800gtx so i can trade it in and pay for them to do the work ;p
so ill ill need to add to the price is the price of 2x 19" lcd's i all ready have 2

now lets just hop that the 2x 4850 ati cards run the 4 screens and 4 wows with 0 troubles

after that shits all set up ill only need ram for my system and it will be 100% complete

ok thats a load of shit it will never be complete lol
but any way thats the rout im going

you said to add a fan to the casing not shore how/what u mean
any chanse i could get some more info on that i may need it with this setup its going to take up alot of room in the case with both of these cards lol

any way thanks for all the help in finding what i want to setup

btw...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102809R

and, you should do it yourself!
1. i don't trust them bestbuy folks
2. its SUPAR easy...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ILrq7lMe-0
3. i don't trust them bestbuy folks

and you'll be saving moneys, and a week of time for a 2min operation (for the hardware)
for the software, its a little more annoying seeing as nvidia and ati hate each other with a deep passion.

so, i'll run you down from begining to end.
(before you remove your video card and put in the 2 4850s)
first download these 2 things.
http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(no-installer)_d1672.html#download
- Driver sweeper, it removes all the junk left behind from your drivers that will make your other drivers unstable.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
- ATI drivers, choose your os and card and get rollin. please don't use the ones off disc, they are old.
put both of these on your desktop for ease of finding
now, uninstall the nvidia drivers.
(go to control panel, add/remove programs click uninstall on nvidia drivers... keep clicking ok etc..)
it will ask you to restart, do this.
now, upon boot press f8 a bunch (should allow you to boot into safe mode) just boot into normal safe mode, not safemode with networking because if you have vista, or sometimes even xp, it will try to find drivers for you which is lame.
now you're in safemode.. make sure it doesnt do anything at the bottom right for installing drivers
run driver sweeper, check the boxes for ati video drivers and nvidia video drivers
run the cleaning part twice
restart your computer (yes again :/)
back into safemode (yes..... again)
run the driversweeper one more time to be safe before you install your ati drivers
install them (the ones you downloaded)
it will ask you to reboot, do it
and now you're going to boot as normal and all should be well.

and you're good to run 4 monitors at this point :D

alright, let me know when you get back on
its best if you do it yourself
be careful with heat.
those reference 4850s run HOT HOT HOT
if you dont mind a bit of noise, i reccomend manually setting the fans to 80%+ even tho they are noisy

just a side note for those of you looking at an i7 and thinking you are getting 8 cores.

a quad core 2.4Ghz as the exact same CPU power as the i7 2.4 Ghz
quad code at 2.4Ghz is 4 x 2.4Ghz = 9.6Ghz of computing power
the i7 can be used as either a quad core ( disabled threading ) and you get 4x 2.4Ghz = 9.6Ghz
but if you hyper thread its still 8 x 1.2Ghz = 9.6 Ghz of CPU power.
a quad core @ 3 Ghz has more CPU power than an i7 @ 2.4 Ghz

the only advantage the i7 has over a regular quad core is the tripple bandwidth memory (3 banks of memory instead of the usual 2 banks) or the DDR3 memory.

Gurblash

But you can OC the i7 920 to about 3.6 on air cooling alone.

matexoza
04-04-2009, 03:42 PM
i pulled out the 9800gtx+ and took it back said id have to wait till the new card got in so in the mean time i putt the 4850 i hade back in it still runs the quad box alone =)
and i have the i7 so no point in thanking about other cpu's it runs 4 wows at 20% cpu usage and thats without oc so what would be the point of trina oc hardware that is doign fine without it lol

other than the fact that you spent probably 3x more than you needed, nothing :P
