Shammies
Why?
- Mail & Shield
- Can Resurrect and self resurrect
- Can be healer
- Totems
- Single Target AOE, though I know there's a way in keyclone to circle around the cursor so that you can cast Blizzard
- And it's proven...

All the reasons Diwa said above.
Shaman totem bonuses are very hard to ignore. Im mixing up my druid and shammy teams when theyre both 20 so that i have at least 2 shammys in each team purely for the bonuses provided by the totems. (and the self-res in case of a wipe)

I just used my 72 hunter to lvl up my 3 new mage slaves to 20 to run with my warrior or pally that are also at 20 on my main account. I screwed up on setting up RAF, so i waited till it ran out to actually spend the time lvling all my alts to learn those classes that have been collecting dust for 2 years. what i'm wondering here is why can't you do pve with 4 mages? my main mage is at 50 and was gonna swap to a 4 mage team when the slaves matched him. please enlighten me on this.

you cant do a dungeon with a tank and 4 mages. at least i think you need heals of some kind. i understand you could level them up just fine, but if youre five boxing why would you not wanna be able to run dungeons.

thinking cap wasn't on. thanks for the reply on that. of course, i've never really had the time to run instances and always had to rely on quests and grinding to lvl up. this'll make me rethink my teams now, ty.

np. i dont see too much wrong with 3 mages and a healer except for the utter lack of synergy. i mean you could still do the content, but the shaman seem to be the way to go. as 4 shaman can fill most of the holes and you can keep it pretty simple. i didnt find my mixed team to be too complex but i havent gotten them to there 50s yet so its probably worse in the later levels.

edit: accidentally typed a couple words twice :S

The rez is a really big deal in PVE imo.
When I first started boxing, I did 5 Warlocks. I thought, wow this is going to be so cool, 5 soulstone, 5 pets...Drain Life Healing...
We went to SFK and one toon died, soulstone!
Then he died again...
I then had to spend lots of time running him back into the instance.
After about an hour of this I switched out the mage for a priest and never regretted that decision.
In BC I never did Heroics with them, I don't remember how far I got, I was able to get the keys for Kara...Oh, I was stuck on BM, that last dragon.
My 4x Mages do worse than my Warlocks because there are no pets.
