View Full Version : Carbonite to continue as free addon
http://www.carboniteaddon.com/cs/forums/t/3174.aspx
In response to the recently announced User Interface Add-On Policy we will no longer be selling a subscription to Carbonite. We are in the process of converting Carbonite to be fully compliant with this new policy and will provide more details when we can.
We would like to thank all our customers for their support and hope we can continue to deliver the product and service that you have come to expect.
2.59 is now available on the public downloads page and 3.00 should be out next week.
The Carbonite Team
Good news that it's not going away... just hope they get enough donations to carry on with what has become a most essential addon!

Eh...the biggest thing I liked about questhelper was the ability to see my team's progress on quests in the objectives tracker.

OMG it's dead! ...no, wait...that other thing.
Too bad QH is going emo because he can't pay for his apartment with it anymore, but them's the breaks. It's not like this translated into a low bug count.
As far as the team quest progress - do the new official UI changes extend to this? Can Jamba-Quest already do it? Can Jamba-Quest be made to do it easily if we ask Jafula real nice to add it to the upcoming features list?

The last few free releases have been very solid, with a number of features that were previously only in the pay-to-use version. I really enjoy it.

The current free version has every feature the pay version had. I never used free before the new policy forced them to go free so I couldn't tell you if it had the feature or not.
I have been using Carbonite for quite awhile now and find it better than quest helper in every way... I certainly hope they are able to maintain the same level of polish.

Dude someone will continue questhelper. It's like open source, just a new fork will come until the original author stops QQ'ing.

I maintain that the sky is falling, add ons are dead, and soon WoW will collapse in on itself.

With Blizzard potentially pulling their contract with "The9" in Asia, this could partially be true. Something like 60% of WoW's population is in that realm...
Yeah, but its not like the plug is just going to get pulled on China. I would imagine Blizz would just end up having to finish fixing the thing themselves so the Chinese government will stop throwing a hissy fit over "graphic" imagery. Probably cost them a bit more than they planned, but not game shattering.
Not like the add-ons debacle, anyway. That's going to make the whole thing go "Boom!".

Oh and wow died like 2 years ago when Vanguard released didn't it or was it Connan that killed WoW or LotRol that did it in or or or .... not having Pay for addons will not kill WoW.
Update... Carbonite v3.00 is now out and is free for everyone...

Unencoded and all... 25,000 lines of uncommented, unformatted code with very plain function names...
Meets all the requirements to be legit to blizz though.
