Need to know the specs i need to 5Box on 1 PC....

Specs as of right now:

E8400@3.6 (OC) could go to 4.0 with my new mem!!
8800GTS 512 mb (g92 core)
2 gigs memory
Windows Xp.

5 clients maxes my memory too 99% in cities and i have seen my cpu at 99% also on occasion.

I have a 4gig kit of Mushkin dDR2 on the way :) i know i need this!!! LOL

But the big question is should i go to a quad core cpu? i have a feeling ill have too. I know wow clients suck up the memory but also cpu intensive.

More info about me and my set up, I use keyclone, i play on a 20.1" viesonic monitor, i run all my clients from one exe. on the same hard drive..... Might go to a raid zero config soon on my Hd's.

In the late future im going to a 30" Dell ultrasharp (not for wow, but for everything:) ) so i can put four slaves on the viewsonic and main on the 30"
But by the time i get the 30" ill run 2 Pc's for wow instead of one.

So what i need is too know how to milk the hardware and get by with the cheapest upgrades to get my guys to 80.

So let me know about your 5boxing experiences/setup's on 1 pc. or add in any helpfull information that you would like.

Well as you said you k now you need the RAM. I'd go even higher. I ahve 8GB on my rig right now and I love it. With 3-4GB I was having to close other programs. Now on Vista 64 I have 5 (or sometimes 6) clients open, Firefox, Outlook, iTunes, and even VMware taking 512-1024MB ram itself.
Quad core definitely made a difference too. My dual core system was running at 90-100% all the time with several wow clients. The cores were just taking too much at once

As far as separate installs/hard drives.. haven't tried it yet but would love to. Have a second HD waiting, just need to install it.

Yep, my system is almost the same as yours except I upgraded the E8400 to a 9550, and put 8 GB in it with Vista 64(because it has much better dual monitor support).

I run 5 clients, and the 2 sharing a core usually show lag before the others. The 8800GTS is fine with my 2 monitors, so long as you drop the anti aliasing level on all clients (and you'll have serious FPS issues if it doesn't match between clients), along with a few other settings. Mine is running all 5 clients at 1920x1200, and the main window is usually between 30 and 80 FPS, while the other 4 are limited to 30.

I've yet to take all 5 to Dalaran (waiting on TBC and WotLK for the last 2 accounts), but Orgrimmar at peak times isn't noticably slow with 5 at a time. The biggest delay I get starting up is the 5 copies of Questhelper (when all I need from it is the tracking of who has how many for collection quests). Symlinking makes loading a LOT quicker.

You need moreeeeeeee ram. This weekend i started to 5 box on one computer with 2 screens (1600x1200 each)

I have my main running on 1600x1200
and my alt windows on 800x600 window 4 times.

I use 600 mb ram per window, with 4 gb ram its working but, im buying 4gb more tomorow so i dont have lag in dalaran. (thumbs up)

My config is:
8800 GTS Gforce
4gb ram atm
475gb harddisk
no clue about my motherboard, its a good one with steam pipes

Basically a gaming rig. I used to do 5 boxing on a laptop and on my pc. But it fails to switch mouses with clicking etc, so i like it better now.

But basically when you add more ram it will do fine i think.

Thank you guys for your comments:) one thing i forgot to add is i am running quest helper addon and others hehe, i forgot what a drain these are.

even if i turn these addon's off for the other windows they still share the same client, i swear that my addon somehow flood into all 5 clients no matter what, or just show as they are.

my titan panel shows me using 55.mb or something for addons.... not so bad for 1 window but if its for all 5!!!! which i think it is since im running of the same exe. LOL extradshizz i dont want.

But my memory will be here tomorrow and i will have like 3.0gigs-3.whatever gigs 32 bit XP recognises to help me some.( hell of alot better than 2 gigs!!!)

I will do a follow up and let you all know how it goes on my system/setup.

If the memory does not do it, ill try a quad core cpu later gen. of intel sub. I7 (wont fork the money over yet for I7)

Heya everyone!

im a new user and i just thought i'd use this thread to pose some questions, since mine are related to the thread topic.
so i used to 3 box on my old system, and that went decent in vanilla wow and to some extend playable in outland..

but i upgraded my system, and i want to 5 box on one machine, from the looks of this discussion i wont have much trouble...
but ill update you on how it goes.

my specs right now :

Gigabyte x58 Ultra Durable 3 mobo
intel i7 920 Processer (océd to 2ghz pr core)
12 GB Tri-Channel RAM (from kingston and at rather slow speeds of 1666mhz so this is my bottleneck if any i guess)
Ati Radeon 4870 x2 (2gigs of DDR5)
150gb WD raptor HDD (@10kRPM)
1TB samsung HDD (@7200RPM)

any info on the Wiki on that symlink shizzle? havnt heard of it before....

but as i said ill update you as i get my accounts up and running.
