I have been struggling with stupid lag and dc's for two months now. Ever since I started heroics. As a result I can only kill about 6-8 heroics bosses a day and I almost always have connection related wipes or deaths that I shouldn't, based on my gear and setup. I finally got MediaCom to come an investigate my connection. I am paying for a 10MB connection and I'm getting 2-4. They didn't want to come out because it wasn't consistantly bad. Well . . . they came out today and replaced the drop and I'm getting 20! The speed wasn't the real issue, it was the number of drops, resets and errors on my connection. The tech said it was a wonder I could even check my e-mail :/

I was having the same problem for a while minus the lag, it was either perfect or offline or god forbid on/off/on/off/etc. Over time this became more and more frequent and after several calls to my cable provider, they finally sent a tech out. Turned out my line in the yard had been nicked by something so they replaced it and everything was perfect.

You guys are lucky. I pay for 10 megs and consistently get about 3.5, and at night we sometimes don't have the internet for hours. They sent a tech out (their BEST guy so everyone says), and he says sometimes connections are just slow. There's nothing he could do about it.
That's one of the drawbacks of living in a small town; it's cheap as dirt here, but the trade off can sometimes get to you.

Tell them to test the line that runs to your house at its origination point. This should be the point where the main line ends and then splits off to the differant homes/buildings/etc. in your area. If the line is fine at that point but sucks in your house, they need to run you a new line. This is how they discovered my problem.

Similar situation, except I was on 1.5mbit :S playing like 15ish accounts (then friends would play say 5-8 ). My connection was dying. FINALLY upgraded (only to 8mbit) and it's sooo nice :P
(had to stay 8mbit because if I went to 24mbit they don't offer unlimited downloads)

I was having problems with my 2mbit ADSL (kept dropping connections and high latency), so I scrapped that and moved to Virgin Cable 20Mbit. no problems so far and my latency is between 30-50 per toon
I have ran a speedtest at various times throughout the day and my connection seems to be averaging out at 18.5mbit (happy with that)

Till recently, only had the one cable internet option on the island. New smaller company is supposdly faster (11mbs!!! compared to my current 8mbs!!), "fastest on the island" , but I dealt with small companies before and always seemed they go down alot more. Current one is enough speed and I rarely have connection issues, so am pretty happy with em. Would also cost me $5 more a month and a crap shoot to see how reliable they are for keeping things running. I'll just stay with what I have, only get a problem maybe once in 2 or 3 months and only have a year till I gotta move again anyway. Funny when I go linkdead though. Ten accounts suddenly going LD in a zone, some people think the whole server is crashing lol.

Even dial-up on a 300 baud modem in Hawaii is better than a direct T3 hard line connection in Canada. :D

I had DSL through Quest for a while and it got really bad. I called them and complained and got the basic meh answer back. I called again and escalated and talked to a manager and had them pull up my connection records and my dsl modem was renegotiating or re-training about 700 times an hour. They agreed that it was not normal and would send someone out the next day. That person did not show so I called again and the tech said they could see the notes, but no call was set up to have someone come out. I cancled the DSL 20 min later. Lady who cancled it offered all kinds of things up to 3 free months to keep me as a customer and my reply was "What good is 3 free months of a service that doesnt work?"
Im now with a 5meg cable connection. Its not too bad but the provider will throttle you down to 1.5meg if you exceed some magical ammount of bandwith per hour. But its that or go back to DSL that I know is still broken.
