Nice splashscreen :thumbdown: . But cant blame them. No banners or anything else on the site, so should give them some more cash.

Damn, they must be paying them extremely well for that kind of ad on a genuine WoW site that is endorsed by Blizzard...

I'm really happy for the guys at Wowhead, they are probably cashing in quite a figure from this. Well deserved!

Warcraft user-heavy sites with the new Warhammer Banners :

http://www.wowhead.com

http://www.curse.com

http://www.wowwiki.com

http://www.wowinterface.com

http://www.mmoui.com/

http://www.zam.com

List goes on but the sites aren't as "WoW Exclusive"

Curse isn't wow-only, in fact they have a Warhammer Addons ('http://war.curse.com/downloads/war-addons/default.aspx') page.

The wowhead main page looks kinda funny, and thankfully it's not on every page. I got an email from Warhammer saying they've got lots of fixes and a 10-day free trial for reactivated accounts and I thought about trying it out again for a month, but this kind of cross-advertising just seems shady and not something I'd like to support.

I believe this marketing move will remove WoWhead's "Offical" site status. At least according to blizz rules on what is an official site.

Sad thing is, at this point I looked at my calender to make sure it wasn't April 1st.

Poll! I am personally offended by the Warhammer ads on the Curse network because:

1) Across this line, NON WARCRAFT-LOVIN' PIGDOGS MAY NOT PASS!;
2) My first experience painting a Warhammer miniature resulted in Goblin Green in my eyebrows, an X-acto blade through the webbing of my left hand, and a rather damaged self-esteem;
3) Outrage about trivial matters is my default stance;
4) Game ads should be smaller than 8,900 pixels across;
5) Self-conscious about using the noun form of "Waaagh" in conversation.

OK, that's actually a pretty good reason. That was pretty bastardly of them.

I remember when GamesWorkshop took legal action against their vendors for selling below MSRP. I won't touch warhammer because of this alone.

Went in to a GW store over the weekend. Was not a pleasant experience. A nice reminder they still have no idea what the hell they are doing.

I'm still not sure why people get offended/mad about this. Its a freakin' ad. Would you rather see ads for viagra or buying WoW gold? Does it offend your senses so much that just seeing a Warhammer ad at the top of the page infuriates you?

If you don't know - Warcraft: Orcs & Humans (the original) was originally a Warhammer game designed for GW. Gamesworkhop didn't like it and rejected it. Instead of scrapping it, Blizzard just re-engineered it to become what is now Warcraft.

Most epic mistake ever? Probably.

So when the hardcore Warhammer guys talk about Warcraft and Starcraft being Warhammer / Warhammer 40k ripoffs - they're right. Gamesworkshop is just dumb.Not necessarily. It's possible that the original Warhammer game wouldn't have done as well as Warcraft did. Even back then, Warhammer had a large amount of background material, and nailing such a thoroughly-developed universe in a license to the extent that Warhammer fiends will be happy about it, is pretty difficult. It's walking on eggshells to make people happy with a popular license. We can assume the game Blizzard was working on was fun -- WC1 kicked ass -- but from GW's rejection of the project, we can guess that it wasn't up to snuff as a Warhammer universe product. Warcraft didn't have to be true to the source, it only had to be a good game. If they'd stuck with the Warhammer license, it's as likely as not that it would've gone down as a near-miss and neither GW nor Blizzard would have profited much from it.

I'm sure if Wowhead was offered enough money, they would...after all, the precedent has now been set right? :P

People don't like it because its pushing them something they don't want - its unexpected and annoying in the same way when some telemarketer rings you up and tries to get you to change phone / internet providers. You already know there are plenty of options out there and if you wanted to change you would have already done so...

Cheers,

S.

The only issue I have with it, is that it wasn't automatically blocked by adblock :P

Damn, they must be paying them extremely well for that kind of ad on a genuine WoW site that is endorsed by Blizzard...Maybe they're planning to consolidate servers and figure that the money they get from eBaying the leftovers will cover it. :)

Some of my friends absolutely love Warhammer, but they started playing WoW again because while they prefer WAR PVP, there just aren't enough people on during prime time. Class and population imbalances were bad enough, but they were willing to play through those. But when there aren't enough people to get a decent "war" going...

I was in a Hobby Shop back in 1999 - where i first learned of "Warhammer" - there were people of all ages playing the miniatures game. First thing that came to my mind was "Warcraft". So I struck up conversation with some of the players - intersted in the game, and mentioned how it reminded me of Warcraft.

They didn't know what I was talking about. I was like "computer game(s)...?". Again, no one had a clue. "Do you even own a computer?!?!". No was the answer I got.

I know this is a small sample - but at the time (this was looooooong after Warcraft had become a major hit, years even), Warhammer fans HAD NO FREAKING CLUE. lol

I've played w40k tabletop in the past, do you know how fricking expensive that is?! It's no surprise they didn't own a computer.
