I was initially thinking about making one nice i7 system thet would handle 5 instances of wow at once at 1920x1200 resolution that I play at. I am now thinking of just making three more computers and running each wow on a dedicated box. I put together a micro atx system below with a mobo that has onboard graphics to cut down on the initial cost. I know that the onboard graphics won't get me that resolution on the setting I play with but I will add graohics cards later or just not even worry about it. I was wondering if anyone else here runs 5 dedicated boxes for each wow game and what you have found to work good at decent cost/value point. Keep in mind these lanboxes I just tossed together are probably overkill for running wow but I am thinking about using them for other things too down the road thats why the components are not the cheapest. I would like some suggestions or maybe some other builds that people here use that will accomplish the same thing and be on par with what I have selected, maybe a comparable intel machine with better specs.

Here is my box I am going to build three of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128379 mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319 hdd

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341001 psu

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163116 case

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116488 os

Let me know what you think. I would like to keep the caes I picked out but everything else is negotiable. I would like to get the price to about $500-$550 a box if that is possible keeping the same level of preformance with the items I just picked out .

Thanks for taking the time to look at my thread and any suggestions you might have for me :)

Become a technet subscriber instead of paying $300 for 3 OS's.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/default.aspx

It is $349 to buy in for new members, but use this coupon TW4OBA to bring it down to $249. Hurry, it won't last. It may get worse or it may get better. When I heard about Technet, I read about it durring the $99 deal. By the time I realized what a great deal it was, that deal was over and I got in at $199 instead. For what you get, still an amazing deal and you are already paying $300 for OS's anyway...now for $50 less, you get about 10 keys for all of Micorsofts OS's (yesm 10 keys for Vista Ultimate, Primium, Home, Bussiness 32 bit or 64, XP Pro, Home, 32 bit or 64, Server 2008, windows 98se, Office 2007 and tons of other shit)...which will probably include windows 7 non-beta as well when it releases.

I have other points for your builds on what you should consider, but raiding with my guild atm (wiped and recovering) so will post again later.

Do you have to keep paying yearly for technet? I foolishly bought 2 retail copies of Vista Ultimate and wish I had known about this. But I dont wanna be stuck paying yearly though. Are the licenses they give you lifetime?

This might be the cheapest way to upgrade up to 10 PC's to windows 7 when it comes out. I wonder if there are other coupon codes/discounts available?

the silverstone case places the power supply right over the motherboard so you better make sure your CPU cooling fan is low profile.

you might want to look into
AM2 Low Profile CPU cooler ('http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835220030')

an this would be the equivalent intel cooler
intel low profile cooler socket 775 ('http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835220034')

"Full-version evaluation software without time limits"

Hopes this clears it out.

And yes, you should get windows seven license too if it comes out during your subscription time.

You should note that this is _evaluation_ software and thus, technically, you should not be using it on systems for general use.

Not that you'll get caught but it is strictly speaking illegal

Not that you'll get caught but it is strictly speaking illegalYou shouldn't use it for production systems (hence you make money on it). But the question was: lifetime? Yes.

Took this step this week. So many new toys to play with now, where to start? Not only did this solve my immediate needs for building a new system. I think I just enhanced my hobby in multiboxing in ways I've never considered. I've always wondered how the other versions of windows ran the games I like to play. I love to tweak and learn about things. Heck, I might even complete some of these elearning courses available with the subscription. I may even get around to fooling with a Windows Home Server now and put those boxes of spare parts to work!

Oh good lord, what have I done?? ;(

I blame KAC... this is all your fault, building that new systems....
