View Full Version : Battle.net Account
So Blizzard has now created another... uh... thingy. These "Battle.net" accounts are supposed to link all Blizzard Entertainment game accounts into one account name and password. Which means all WoW accounts, all Diablo accounts, all Starcraft accounts, etc. are being merged into one account.
Pros: Only have to remember one account name and password.
Con: Gonna suck hell if you get hacked.

I was just reading about this...
I think I'll check it out.
Edit: Merging all my accounts into the one account: You input your login information, then your authenticator code if you have one, then you finalize. A simple thing. If you have more than one account it'll ask if you're the sole user of said account. No need for screenshots at this point.
I'll update this in a little bit with screenshots of how it changes the way you log in, if it changes how files are managed, etc.

Q: How do I log in if Ive merged multiple World of Warcraft accounts?
A: After you log in to World of Warcraft using the Battle.net Account, you will be prompted to select which of the merged World of Warcraft accounts you wish to play. Players with multiple World of Warcraft accounts are still able to log in and play them simultaneously.

Quick update:
http://hdimage.org/images/qwqu1pjkxekjmi9dns6_attlenet.jpg
This is how it looks when you login to the game AND the account management page. I've left my account names in, well, because it doesn't matter anymore!
Notes:
1: You can switch which account you want to manage without logging out, then back in, then putting in ANOTHER authenticator key.
2: This is how it looks when you login (FOR THE FIRST TIME!).
After you do this(you SHOULD get a little box under your account name field saying which account you want to log into. Make sure Save Account Name is checked.)
This is how it should look.

As far as addons being messed up, there is no indication of anything being amiss.
So far, I'm liking it!
And for those interested on how the battle.net account page looks...here it is!

We'll just have to see! =D
Edit: Interesting thing, it seems blizzard has a authenticator program in the works that'll run off your mobile phone. I didn't look much into it, other than it's only available for korean users.

its 14 digits though im lazy with 10If you're talking about your WoW CD key, you don't use it. You use your current account name/password.

i was talking about the mobile authenticator vs the key ring one
Sajuuk

The key ring is six digits, the mobile one is eight.
What is an Authenticator code and where do I see it?
The Authenticator code is an eight-digit numeric code that is produced when you select "View Code" in your Battle.net Mobile application. Each code is unique and is valid only once.

There were rumors back in beta that they'll be giving chilly the penguin (the non-demonic baby penguin pet) to people who migrate over to the combined blizzard account.

There were rumors back in beta that they'll be giving chilly the penguin (the non-demonic baby penguin pet) to people who migrate over to the combined blizzard account.Yea. You got a pet in the mail and the mail thanked you for converting to a Battle.net account. Was wondering when this would happen, but I noticed the forums offered to let me use a battle.net account, so I figured it was soon ;) Wonder if this means Starcraft2 Beta keys will be usable soon.

So if your using maximizer to automatically imput your account names wouldn't this new battle.net make it so that no longer happens? Meaning for each window you'd have to type in you password then select which acount you wished to play.

Multiboxing fail after adding only 8 wow accounts and 2 warcraft III accounts

The FAQ says the limit is 8 accounts per battle.net. So you ten boxers need to create 2 battle.net accounts and then merge them.
I am so happy they did this. I was going to post a suggestion for linking accounts so we can quickly mail between our multiboxed accounts and not suffer the 1 hour penalty. This may also mean we can mail account bound items between our boxed accounts also. So if you collect more stonekeeper shards on one account you can send the spoils to other accounts without having to pay $25 for a transfer.
Overall a big woot!

This is a dream of mine for sure. A more basic thing I'd like to see is the ability to change accounts from the character select screen instead of having to logout all the way. Even just that would be sweet! Using the Battle.Net account to login to the WoW forums will let you easily flip between accounts to choose a character to post from. It's very nice. I'm a fan!

In perspective of the single game account game nothing will (probably) change.
Just the authentication will change.
Account bound things will (probably)not be affected by this
Think about it in the line of an XBox live id. Just another ID, where you can brag on forums with how many accounts you have and so on ....
I think even that it adds additional complexity to the login process.
you have to authenticate the battle net, then select the account, and then the character.
What do I get as a player from that ? I already have my accounts registered with one authenticator token (brilliant invention btw)
/rant over :)

I'm with Bloodcloud on this. I don't see what I'm getting out of this aside from another inconvenience of logging in.

Battle.net Accounts and you: How I merged 7 wow accounts to 1 login. ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=20270')
I did this for my accounts this morning, the extra mouse click to log in doesn't bother me, so if another click is that important to you, I wouldn't merge your accounts until they force you (if that ever even happens). This is a welcome change to me as I'm frequently on realm forums and the logging in and out is awful there. Along with the bonus of being able to admin the accounts at once without logging in and out? Yes plox. do want.

Can't look at the faq where I'm at. Can someone post it?
Question: Does a log in on an individual computer remember the last account you logged in with? Not a big deal if I have to hit enter one more time, kind of a big deal if I have to mouseover and select the account ten times every time I log in.
Does it mention disciplinary measures? Suppose I lose it one day in a fit of depression, and I curse out someone in Starcraft 2. A ban gets issued. Does this affect my battle.net account as a whole, or the specific account that was actioned?

Blizzard has often banned based on billing information - if you decide to assclown you are likely risking all accounts on the battlenet account.
I am having trouble finding a clear answer to my questions. If anyone knows the answer, I would be grateful.
1) Can you merge accounts with different names?
2) If you do merge accounts with different names, will it allow you to transfer between them?
This http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=26163 seems to indicate NO to #2, but I am still not sure about #1.
p.s. 1 of my accounts has a different name due to me being paranoid and using a false name on my very first Blizzard account.

Yeah, that's kind of why I don't like where this is going. Not that I ever intend to be banned or anything, just feels like a big red sign is getting attached to all my accounts, and in the case of a mistake being made (which happens) I'm looking at repurcussions on all of them. Maybe if I saw some convenience on my end, I'd be a bit happier, but right now, I can't even attach all my accounts.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't actually expect to see anything that would merge accounts in-game either (like allowing bind on account items to be traded between accounts you own, etc). But I'll still dream about it :)

To those questioning how you login x5 after implementing this...
I've merged my 5 WoW accounts. So now, when I load my 5 WoW's with keyclone, I use my single battle.net login for all 5 accounts - after the first time you login all 5 you will be prompted to choose your "WoW" account. Once you do that the first time, it remembers it from then on. So now I just run keyclone like always, load 5 WoWs, type my password in once, and it remembers that each window goes to a different sub-account. So, no more steps then pre-battle.net.

This only works if you have 5 copies of WoW, right? If you're running them off of one WoW directory, the last exited client would overwrite the settings of the others?

I'm using InnerSPace and it remembers which Battle.net login name I'm using per character thanks to the virtual config.wtf file option. I believe KeyClone has the same virtual file option. But yes, I do believe you'd need 5 WoW folders for the config.wtf to remember who logged on to which one.

Battle.net is wonderful "IF"
You add a blizzard authenicator!!
It's a MUST!
Otherwise if you get a key logger all of your accounts are screwed.
