View Full Version : Video Card Comparison Question [for a gaming notebook]

I'm planning on purchasing a pretty robust gaming laptop some time this coming summer and wanted to ask the community for some input. The main question I keep coming to is whether to go for one dedicated high-end video card or with an SLI setup with two lesser cards. Does anyone have any experience or know of any articles detailing multi-box performance compared between a single standalone vs a 2-card SLI solution?

My goal is to software multibox 5 accounts (using keyclone) on the same laptop with relatively smooth framerates (30-50 fps for the main client, 15 background fps capped for the slave clients).

The specific GPU comparison I'm looking for would be between 1) a singe GTX 260 Mobile GPU or 2) a pair of 9800M GTX in SLI mode.

For CPU, RAM, HDD, etc I will be using something like a 2.5-3.0GHz quad core processor, somewhere between ~4-6GB of 1066+ DDR3 RAM, and a 128GB solid state hard drive. I'm really more interested in a performance comparison between the single GPU and the dual SLI setup.

Any tech articles, websites, reviews or personal anecdotes (please include specifics like fps, CPU load, etc if you want to leave a personal anecdote) would be greatly appreciated.

Single is the way to go. 260 is great.

SLI does not give double or whatever its really not good. Search for SLI on this forum I know its been discussed.

9800M GTX in SLI is faster, but WoW isn't really optimised for SLI (not saying it won't work, you just won't get much of an improvement). GTX 260 would be better if you are only concerned with WoW fps :)
(GTX 260M is just a higher clocked 9800M GTX)

*edit*
Expect the 260M to perform similar to your Desktop 9800gtx. (if I read your signature correctly hehe)
