View Full Version : Anub'Rehkan: 10-box Think tank

After clearing the plague wing, its time for me to clear the Arachnid quarter. One problem. Anb'Rehkan is not nice. Well, more the fact that locust swarm sucks. Let me cover what I've tried so far, and how far I've gotten.

I can get TO locust swarm without too many problems. One method I've tried is keep everyone stacked on top of each other and eating the ground spikes. I can heal through this fine, so it isn't much of an issue. I've also spread out, which moderately relieved spike damage, but didn't make much difference in my opinion.

I've tried two methods for dealing with the crypt guards: One, I just pick it up with my MT, burn it down, and keep DPS up on the boss. The other method is to keep my melee DPS back, and have the OT pick up the crypt guard, burn it down, and slowly dps the boss with ranged when a guard isn't up.

Either way, everything goes to hell when locust swarm starts. I had tried just healing through it on my tank, but I don't think that's going to work, largely because a guard spawns when locust swarm starts, which means I have to let it wreak havoc on my group or pick it up on my OT (which diverts healing), either way ending in a wipe.

Now, I think my problem may originate in that I'm tanking him in the middle of the room. I'm thinking if I tank him where he starts the encounter, I can pick up any guard spawns with my MT (going to have to get creative with stuns here), and when insect swarm starts, pop a swiftness potion and run to the other side of the arena with the whole raid. If I keep my dps up, this should allow me to drop him before a second insect swarm.

If anyone has any other idea's I'd love to hear them.

The thread is faaar down the list ^^ but here it goes:

WotLK 8+ Boxing Raid Strategies - Vault 1/1 - Naxx 4/15 ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=19552')

Don't have a lot of time for 10 boxing lately. Did use the strategy three times, always downed at first try without any problem, no deaths, just clean :)

To make it simpler:
MT Boss
OT gets adds
All dps switch to focus OT when adds are there
Running two healers and they're more than enough to overheal during swarm, no kitting needed
Group stays packed and I just heal through damage

Hope it helped.

Here's a link to how non-multiboxers do this encounter:

Notice that the boss is tanked on the outside of the room and not in the middle. When the locust swarm starts, run along the edge of the room. The boss is slow enough for you to outrun it. The crypt guards should always spawn at the spot where the boss is at the start of the encounter, place your offtank there.

Oh ya - I have successfully healed through the locus swarm once - but it took two MHs and one of my Elemental Shaman healing as well. Not really a good plan - but it is possible.Well, if I can do it 10 boxing anyone can ^^ and it's by far the best way to 10 box it since you don't have to move. The whole fight done this way is 90% static (being the 10% just some fine tuning on MT and OT positioning).

Another hint is to use all damage mitigation cds you have in your tank as close to swarm as possible. It has to be well timed but it's a must.
I don't even HoT him for that phase if he already has them even better.

my first time ever tanking that boss i failed hard on the run and got 7 stacks of locus, ever since i have not moved in this fight, i just pop shieldwall, when i se him start his cast, makes this encounter a joke, the first add that comes i always grap and tank togther whit the boss, but the add in the locus phase i cant build aggro on, so we have an ot grap it, and always tank him at the dor were the adds spwan.

We tank him on the the side of the room where you enter (in the doorway you come in through). This way when the adds pop they are on teh opposite side of the room from the tank/dps and it makes it easier for us to snag em.

Positioning is:
caster dps off to one side of the ring (can target adds and boss without turning/moving from here).
MT on boss,
OT picks up adds - melee all burn adds, casters stay on boss unless something's going horribly wrong with adds.
Healers power through the Swarm, no one moves. Burning tank cooldowns right before swarm makes it much easier.

gear you tank in as high HP as you possibly can (of course keep 540 def), more important for this fight than avoidance. Tank the boss at start door or where he starts, either is fine imo. Have everyone else stand at least 25 yards away, if you do have an OT sub him out for a DPS if you can.

Burn adds when they are up, burn boss otherwise. Stand still through locust swarms, if you have 2-3 healers (one pally is great here) you should be able to heal through locust swarms just fine -- be sure to stay max range tho so healers don't get hit with it. Pretty much every guild that is decently geared uses the strat of the MT standing still through swarms, and its fine. You only need to kite when your tank/healers are undergeared.

a) Better gear
b) Dk tank

Got him down. Thanks to everyone who made useful suggestions. It came down to tanking him in the center of the room, using my off tank as a main assist and grabbing guard spawns, and a lot of running back and forth with the melee crew. Also just healed through Locust swarm.
