View Full Version : Getting Back into Multiboxing

After a bit of a hiatus where I spent my time single-boxing, I am ready to get back into MBing.
I left off with a 35 paladin, and four 35 shamans. The paladin is 40 now and I also have an 80 hunter on the primary account.
I would like to level the group up fairly quickly and would like some advice from anyone in the know, or more specifically, anyone who's used a hunter to boost.
I was thinking of using the hunter to boost the shamans to 40, just doing some cathedral runs, and then putting the MB group back together (with paladin in the lead spot) for the trek to 80. However, I started wondering about another method... would it be faster to take the shamans up higher with the hunter and play the paladin solo to catch up. If so, how high can I boost the shamans with the hunter before it gets too slow and it's time to bring the paladin up?
Thanks for any help and insights you can provide, and thanks for all the posts, screen shots, and movies that have served to suck me back into MBing.

Run your pala + 4 from current level to 80 together. Do quests (gold + vendor) mixed with instance (gold + AH + vendor) runs and be happy you did... you are ABLE to PURCHASE cold-weather flying at 77 and epic flying soon after hitting lvl 80. Take the time now and thank yourself later. Simple!

Note: You will grow as a multiboxer clearing instances on the way to 80. Just make sure to quest enough to gain some xp + gold and important rep along the way.

I used my hunters at 70 to boost my toons through SM.
I works pretty well,if you use a GorillaDin and BM you can just send your pet around gathering up as many mobs as it can tank, whilst you wait at a safe spot.
Create a misdirection macro on your pet them just put a frost trap down, cast misdirection/trinket and multishot, then start using volley on them as they come for you over your frost trap, use disengage to get more room to put another volley in.
This is what I used to clear at 70,so 80 should be a breeze.
Hope this helps.

Seeing how its been a while you may be rusty with the group dynamics. However, you have a level 80 so that can generate more than enough assets to fund your group. If your looking for speed. Boost the 4 shaman with the hunter, then come back and follow a quest leveling guide with the paladin. With 4 high level shaman behind him blowing everything up, all quests are going to be easy and fast, even the annoying collection quests. On my old group I had a priest and 4 mages. Around level 68ish I swapped out a mage for a paladin and leveled the paladin from 1-68 in about 2 days played time. No RAF. I just grabbed Jame's leveling guide and went at it. I didn't get squat xp from kills till the end, but with the reduction in xp to level and the quest guide. It flew.
I would say boost the shaman to 70 then level the paladin and from there 5man it and get your group dynamics down as you level to 80.

A guildie of mine who is just getting into boxiner again (only 2 boxed a bit before) used his 80 hunter, and boosted all the way, doing VC, then Stocks, then SM then ZF, then BRD, then Strath. I think he opted for more instances so he wouldn't have to deal with the huge aggro radius from bringing in the lowest lvl possible.
If your end goal is to 5 box, you could just level them together, learn the ins and outs as you go. But since the game only gets interesting at 60, I see no harm in boosting to 60 then playing as a 5 man team. Hell, boosting to 70 then running 5 to 80 would get you pretty far.
As for the boosting 4 toons at a time thing, ask yourself, what do you have more of, time and patience? or money? If it's time, just boost the shaman, then quest the paladin, with the shamans assisting in DPS out of party, and party up for instance quests.
If you have more money than time, you might consider ditching the 2 of the extra accounts, making 2 new RAF accounts, and either transferring the 35 shaman (not worth it IMO) or just boost from scratch 2 new shaman, and 2 other toons you'd like someday, and gift levels once you hit 60. You could also gift levels to a paladin and xfer him to the main account and just forget about the original. Once you start brainstorming, you can come up with a ton of different scenarios for utilizing RAF. Just make sure the hunter is on a separate account from the 4 accounts to be boosted.
