I RAF'd 5 rogues to lvl 60 several months ago and decided to pick them back up and get them to northrend. I'm trying to decide what best talent tree I should go with. I never played rogues before this and am not that good with them yet.
When I logged them on I found I had to pick talents again. I guess a patched added some new abilities. I went with combat for "Killing Spree" but haven't been able to use that ability yet. Just got them setup again last night.
If there is anyone that is familiar with rogues I would appreciate some advice. What spec would you go with if you were multiboxing with them and why?

My rogues are 70, but I haven't played them since the mutilate damage nerf. I had played shadowstep until i switched to Mutilate around lvl 61. I still think that Mut is easiest to chain pull singles with the non positional requirement (and with master poisoner, getting the crip poison for free) and running thru the target spamming Mut, but maybe using combat and sinister strike would be just as effective in the current build. With murder spree, evasion, and blade flurry you could be pulling like 7 mobs once every 2 mins to add a bunch of XP when cooldowns are ready. I am planning to go back to shadowstep for PVP when I get a chance to continue with the team (mages and druids are 70, then buy WOTLK >.<). Maybe ill play a bit on them tonight and try to give an update, depending on wife aggro.
Hello. I just yesterday RAFFED some new accounts for the soul purpose of doing a 5man rogue team. What I plan on doing is going Deep Sub for shadowstep and shadow dance.
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?rogue=0050000000000000000000000000052042000000000 0000000000005000232133300121353135031201&glyph=000000000000&version=9684
Honor among thieves should have great synergy between the 5 rogues.
I'd go with this for fist crit: http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?rogue=0050000000000000000000000000050050050000000 0000000000005000232133300121353115031201&glyph=000000000000&version=9684
that is if you need more crit.
TBO this setup could be combo point overkill. Getting one every second if you crit + opening moves + dodging is alot.

I don't mean to be rude here, but that spec is.... odd. You don't take 2-3 of the best talents in the sub tree. You have ghostly strike + hemo, but no opportunity or improved ambush? 3/3 Setup but 0/5 Slaughter from the shadows.
What exactly do you intend to fight with that build? I only have one rogue, but he is 80 and doing well in arena (deadly weapon as soon as I have the points) and i just don't understand that build at all.
Oh I linked the wrong one. http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?rogue=0053031050000000000000000000000000000000000 0000000000005020132130320121350105231251&glyph=000000000000&version=9684
Thats the one that works great with the spec via ambushes and backstabs and stuff. I havent gotten a rogue to 80 yet so forgive me. Looking it over again I'd prob. rather go the last points into assassination rather than combat for crit and if i were to go sub, i'd stick with daggers.

Just my 2cents. Sorry you didn't ask for it. There are primary functions you need in a group depending on where that group goes. I am mostly an instancer, so that is my perscpective. I didn't notice if you are only doing PVP or arenas, or what?
For instances, you need a person who can take hits. It doesn't have to be a fancy person, just something that can take hits. I have DKs (plate and taunt), hunters (mail, pets and taunt), shammies (mail, stam and play defensive) and recently locks (multiple voids). What are you going to do when tough mobs want to smash your face in? Sure you can feint, but that just means another person gets their face smashed in.
For a lot of things you need a person who can heal. DKs aren't bad at self/group heal, hunter's pet are tough and can be healed (talent/mend), shammies are pretty good healers (totem/chain/lesser) and so far locks aren't bad on healing (heal pet, steal life back). Sure you can feint or vanish and bandage and maybe an herbalism heal. That isn't very much.
Melee and movement. I first noticed it on my shammies (they are melee/resto). It was supposed to be really bad, but I just pulled melee to me and shocked casters and they came to me. For BG's/PVP, I just healed, since I could heal 2-3 times more than I could do damage and healers were in short supply in PVP. My DKs just laugh at melee and for casters I have deathgrip. Hunters and locks just range everyone. If I understand, rogues can shadowstep, but that is a deep talent. So that probably picks your talents for you.
I am just worried that you have low take-hits-ability, low healing, virtually no ranged and if anyone moves 1/2 and inch, some of your attacks don't work (gouge-front, backstab-back, etc). I hope it works out for you. Good luck.

The only plans I have for these rogues at the moment is just world pvp fun. That will likely change a bit later. I am thinking of 10 boxing and if so would match these up with my 5 druids in a group for some real fun.
I think when servers come back up i'm going to use part of the spec from the link flra posted. Those sub talents look pretty awesome, actually.

:D
I started off with shadow dance but found that not quite to my liking. Seemed a bit hard to use from my perspective though I just picked up tricks of the trade so I guess it would work better now if I decided to go back. At the moment I'm Shadowstep/Cold Blood. I pretty much destroy everything now including level 80 deathknights ;) I have yet to try Killing Spree though I imagine it would instantly gib any solo player lol. I plan on using that as my second spec when the patch is released :).
Oh and for the record casting four tricks of the trade on your main is AWESOME :D +75% damage and the additional threat means the mob won't turn around and attack your alts.
edit: current spec if you want to take a looksy

@ElectronDF you raise some really good points. Its different playing my rogues over my priest/mages as I can't heal atm (gonna level bandaging at 80 but cant be bothered doing it atm) The one thing we do have though is escapeability aka cowardice. I've been attacked while questing so many times only to evasion/CloS/sprint/vanish and come back to gank the person that attacked me. If its just one person attacking we also have 5 gouges/stuns/blinds/dismantles on round robin available to give us bandage time.
One other thing I should mention that if you get a non gouge resistant mob you can gouge it on round robin until its dead without letting it get a single attack off :P

Cool Tasty, looking forward to getting leveled enought to get tricks of the trade. I'm having just a huge amount of fun with these rogues right now. I'm keeping things simple for now and pretty much just have two buttons (well, 4 if you count they are FTL setup). Stealth and then my melee macro which uses /cast and then castrandom. Shadowstep just rocks. omfg...can't wait to do some bgs with these guys.
Do you plan on doing areana with them? I was talking with a guildy yesterday about it. 3v3 would just be soooo unfair. Stealth/Shadowstep kill healer, vanish...stealth/shadowstep kill one more and it is then game over. I am wondering if 5v5 might be fun in arena.

For the record Killing Spree is the most annoying skill in WoW for a boxer. As of the last time I spec'd combat, it not only breaks follow but also removes that player from /focus in all ways. So you have to re /focus before /follow or anything like that. PITA
And ya that talent can wreck things. I imagine 5x killing spree may even have a chance in arena providing you can work out the end of the match with 5x melee.
Killing spree as of 3.1 (i believe) is going to raise all damage done by the rogue 20% during killing spree. Sooooo.
Walk up in stealth; 5x Tricks of the trade in a circle (all 5 toons get the benefit 15% dmg); 4x garrote 1x cheapshot; 5x killing spree; should raise your bleed + poison damages by 20% along with the 15% from TotT, with all that flying around you could potentially drop half a team of clothies in 1 attack.
however if you play it right with shadow step + shadow dance you could walk up and 5x Ambush a clothy for an instant kill. Then press a shadowstep macro that will automatically Shadow step + Shadow Dance + Ambush a second target for 2 kills in 2 GCD's then with shadow dance active you can bull charge another guy and use premeditation to fill a few combo points and drop a Hemo with your leader running through him and 4x Eviscerate on them with the slaves that should be 50%-death depending on the target and his gear.
In a perfect world you can see how this could be sudden panicy death for multiple people and i have plans to do a 5x rogue team soon to try the following.
5v5 arena:
Close in on opposing team, activate cloak of shadows + evasion + sprint + Tricks of the Trade
1st target: Walk up. 5x ambush
2nd target: Shadow dance + shadow step + 5x Ambush
5x /target nearest /cast blind
3rd target: 5x premeditation 5x Eviscerate or possibly have leader use hemo and clones eviscerate. This may not kill the target but I would move to the next target anyway to keep the chaos
4th target: Aquire target, 5x Preparation macro ( uses every skill preparation resets: sprint + vanish + premeditation + cloak of shadows + shadow step + dismantle) and then press it again to activate all of those skills which vanishes and shadowsteps your target and then 5x ambush
5th target: may very well be crying and/or sucking his thumb at this point and you can just shiv him to death or what have you.
On paper this looks like a good 5v5 strategy but when I tried it with 5 solo played rogues the timing and target selecting was an issue and we fell apart in the 1900's

Only real things I would change for me is
move ruthlessness to improved eviscerate. How often are you going to build combo points AND use a finishing move without killing something ;)
get rid of lethality and put the points into master of deception and heightened senses. Those 2 talents are 100% necessary for any PvP and lethality pretty much only effects backstab which you won't use often in PvP if ever.
Personally I would ditch ghostly strike and put 2nd point in dirty tricks or somewhere else. Since the dodge nerf to rogues it just isn't that great anymore.
Keep in mind thats for my tastes as an 80 PvP rogue. Leveling, such things like ghostly strike can negate a lot of downtime from eating or bandaging or w/e and you may just like having the extra non-positional skill.

Yeah at level 76 I'm still finding things are pretty simple. Rogues dont have that many skills in comparison to some other clases lol :P and I have yet to try out a BG but I'm more of a World PvP person myself.

Yeah I'll prolly do arena each week for the points. Chances are I'll lose every single game but it will be just like with my old team. I'll get owned by overgeared teams. Next season comes round and I get my 'welfare' gear. I own the overgeared teams :P

I'm still running an old ass /cast [target=main-target] system so meh :) as for the follow stopping, as it stands I dont have /follow at the end of my attack macros as I prefer my alts to stop moving when they attack until I hit follow again. May seem strange but its just my preferred play style atm.
With tricks of the trade at the moment I've tried it and I think one rogue will always miss out on it as when you cast it on someone who cast it on you one of them cancels the other out, so when I'm doing old school raids I can cast five on the main tank for 75%more damage or when I'm leveling I can cast four on my main rogue for 60% more damage. But yeah you're right even with just one rogue having the buff atm its still around 25-30k damage worth of dots (inc deadly poison)
move ruthlessness to improved eviscerate. How often are you going to build combo points AND use a finishing move without killing something ;)
Its mainly for the dks and other tank classes as direct damage seems pretty ineffective. Premeditation + ruthlessness means Ill get a full damage garrote/rupture on them straight off the bat. You can then /vanish and watch them run in circles till they die.
edit: forgot to mention I'm a bit torn up at the moment. I have a few points left on my way to eighty and I'm not sure if I want to get cheat death or honour among thieves.
I also just remembered they changed feint recently so I looked it up on thottbot and they gave it a 50% aoe damage reduction as well /palmface (woulda come in handy last night, was vsing guildie shaman boxer in the arena and the totems absolutely slaughtered me)

I checked on wowwiki and you need 444 res to hit the 90% dr cap so yeah you're right, think I'll just skip that one for now :|
Mayswell bring this up in here.
"Hysteria, Tricks of the Trade, Enrage, Wrecking Crew, Death Wish, Arcane Power, Owlkin Frenzy, Beast Within, and Avenging Wrath damage bonuses no longer stack together."
Kinda sucks but just saw the new glyphs. Tricks of the trade gives 10% more damage and Fan of Knives gives 20% more damage :D
At least the threat component still stacks

Still having a lot of fun with this team. Should be in northrend this weekend where I can get some better gear.
I started having some world pvp fun with them. Sapping an alliance and then standing in front of him about 20 yards away and unstealth one toon and then /dance. Hehe. oh boy is that fun. They take the bait every single time! hehe..fun fun

Well, I respec'd Combat to play around with Killing Spree. Holy crap i totally love it. I don't mind losing focus/follow. I just hit my follow button that I always hit. This ability is incredible. Hit "Killing Spree" button once and your rogues are hitting every target within 10 yards (up to 5) and all have poisons stacked and usually stunned and very low on health if not already dead. Another thing I use this for is when in melee fight with a player who keeps running around in circles on me. Just hit killing spree and he is pretty much toast.
I have a lot of work to do on my macros and rotation this weekend. I am still not super familiar with Rogue abilities and how you should fit them in a rotation. I searched Google and couldn't come up with any good 'single button' spamables that satisfied me.
I am used to using my trinkets in melee combat and it has never shown to be a problem until now. Most trinkets I have gotten seem to take you out of stealth and removes your ability to use a stealth ability such as ambush. I have one trinket that seems to work fine but most others have always screwed that up. It would be nice to have the advantage of increased attack power when using abilities such as ambush. What I may end up doing is loading the trinkets under the /cast [stealth] ability and just use trinkets for the rest of the fight. Kinda sucks but lemonade from lemons i guess.
If anyone can post their rogue macros/rotation it would be greatly appreciated.

This really needs a few videos, I can imagine the hilarity. Only thing that bothers me is once vanish is down, what do you do when all your rogues are caught in the open? It seems like this crew would be awesome for taking out 2-3 enemies and then after that ???
Also, I need to stop reading this board. LOL I almost re-installed wow to try out 5 rogues :whistling:

Sometimes you get left out in the open but have other tools at your disposal. If vanish is on cooldown (2 minutes with talent points) I can 'dash' to get away a bit if needed. If I am in combat with a player it will get me far enough away to escape. Also you can use "Bllind" to disorient the target for 10 seconds (i don't have that macro'd at the moment). I might try to work on an escape macros that tries to vanish, if not does a round robin Blind then dash. Or I just turn around and fight..maybe I die..i don't care. :) There are a lot of abilities that let you silence/stun the target and the chance of that increases if you have 5 rogues!
One of the side effects of just having a rogue team is unexpected fun. Just a half hour ago I was in dragonblight doing a quest and unstealthed one of my rogues to loot something and a druid saw me and moonfired the rogue to death. But he didn't realize there were 5 of me. :) Needless to say my other 4 rogues at lvl 72 ROFLStomped this fully epic'd druid in about 10 seconds. funny as hell. I CAN'T WAIT to get these guys to 80 and hit some of the battlegrounds.

WTH I thought I was the only one up this early. Well, only when work makes me stay up all night that is...
The reason Trinkets take you out of stealth is because of rogues that would trinket then ambush and do a ton of damage. I guess it was OP. I can't wait to hit your level I'm only 44 now but I'm about to head to the hinterlands so it's all good. I'm messing around with talents for my final build and I'm still wondering which way I wanna go, either dagger sub or sword combat spec. Either way it's gonna be fun. I'm still using these lvl 22 swords but I kill stuff so fast.
I saw ur video, killing spree looks awesome. What's great is the energy regen talents we get in that tree with vitality and chance to offhand hits.

I'm having a hard time with getting a single button to include /cast [stealth] Ambush; Backstab followed by /use 13 /use 14 then /castsequence. If the rogues aren't right behind the target they just stay stealthed until I can get them behind the target. I have tried a lot of variations and just can't get it to work right. Perhaps I will need to use another button to cast stealth attacks then have one button for regular combat. I was also hoping to include disarm ability as well but if the mob doesn't have any weapons armed the macros gets stuck on it. boo hoo...i wanted my super 'one button' roflstomp
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?rogue=0050231053000000000000000000000000000000000 0000000000000322232030320120352105031151&glyph=000000000000&version=9742
I think This will be my final build at 80 depending on how good shadow step/shadow dance is compared to killing spree. TotT - 25% damage increase with glyph. Master of sub gives 10% boost for 6seconds but will last through the full effect of shadow dance, or it should. (don't know if shadow step will reapply it. Shadow step gives my next attack a 20% increase. Then through other talents i get 15% agi and 10% atk power.
so the rotation will be: /stealth - TotT - Ambushx3/cs/garrote - backstab(shouldkill) next target - shadowstep - shadowdance - ambush - ambush
This will roughly take 9 - 10 seconds for the energy needed. After casting shadowstep and shadow dance I should be getting a full + 55% damage ambush.

I have two separate buttons for stealth
/cast !stealth and /cast [stance] stealth - I know its more buttons to press but I'm often in and out of stealth so I try to avoid the one button type dealios. Btw its fun to stealth off your flying mounts into a SS ambush on a mounted player ;)
Do you plan on putting your disarm on a cast sequence. Atm I have Sap, Disarm, Kidney Shot and blind on CS's. The Kideny Shot ... I dont use too much atm cause everything dies too fast. Sap works real well and so does blind. Blind is so awesome in PvP you can blind 5 at a time or just one person and the beauty is if your mains blind is down you know that you have four on backup. Its also quite easy to get 5 saps off, I usually dont bother wasting sprint but at the moment if I dont sap fast enough the CS resets (might just change that)
I also spent an hour redoing macros the other day so things are a lot better. I've been boxing for a year and its like the first time I've bothered to setup follow macros in case my main dies lol.
Also finally got around to making my /cast [stealth Ambush; Backstab macro and I also fixed up my Garupture© macros. Originally I had Garrote bound to my 9 key while stealthed and rupture bound to my - key while unestealthed. While this was working sort of okay it got a bit annoying. Some times one of the rogues wouldnt attack due to lag or not having a target at the time or whatever and so when I pushed 9 again to get the last rogue to attack the rest would use a trinket hehe :P so now I can spam 9 and they will all get their casts off.
My last pointless note is just that Honor among thieves is the most overpowered multiboxing ability out there ;) Was raiding za/mag/gruul and it took only seconds to get full points on my targets :o I also tested out deadly through at nesings camp in SB (was pvping) If you cast cold blood and prep then deadly throw someone you instantly get back up to 5 points so you get another full rank deadly throw. I've killed playerds with 18k hp with deadly throw alone lol :P
Fin
@Flra I've really been itching to try out killing spree since the beginning but never quite got around to it so I'm waiting for dual specs now :|
As for the Shadow dance - let me know how that works out for you, I had a bit of trouble with it myself but that was most likely due to macros and level I think. I'm assuming now at 80 it would probably be a whole lot easier to use.

/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear(); UIErrorsFrame:Show()

This is my stealth button for my main. I was thinking about adding a castsequence for sap (would have to create new keyclone hotstrings, though.
/cast [nostealth] stealth
/castsequence [stealth] Sap, Pick Pocket
Sadly Next patch Honor among Thieves will proc 1 every second, so It might mess up combo point builds. Kinda sucks because I think 5x cold blood crits will only generate 1 point unless you round robin it, but that would mean you waste 5 seconds.

Drop Vile Poisons and Dirty Tricks and pick up Relentless strikes. There are probably less than 2% lvl 80 rogues without this talent.... It is awesome.
so the rotation will be: /stealth - TotT - Ambushx3/cs/garrote - backstab(shouldkill) next target - shadowstep - shadowdance - ambush - ambush
Your new rotation could be: /stealth - (Cloak of shadows + evasion + sprint + premeditation) - Ambushx3/cs/garrote - Eviscerate (costs 0 energy and you will have 4 combo points after premed+opener); Next target - shadowstep - shadowdance - ambushx3/cs/garrote - Ambush. You almost have to have the cs/garrote on every opener to prevent the target from turning to face you or moving out of range.
This will roughly take 9 - 10 seconds for the energy needed. After casting shadowstep and shadow dance I should be getting a full + 55% damage ambush.
Moving from backstab to eviscerate will up your damage and save you a large chunk of energy dropping your total time.
You really should get in the habit of hitting a cloak of shadows + evasion + sprint macro before you engage as this is what makes rogues so annoying. First time you don't you will catch a trinket+fear or a Trinket+bladestorm.
Also when your done don't forget to hit Vanish then Preparation and do it all over again!
And use eviscerate any time your above 3-4 combo points. It costs 0 energy and is seriously nasty. My record Evisc crit is 14.6k in arena

Trying to keep my button numbers down so I am doing this:
/cast [nostealth] Cloak of Shadows
/cast [nostealth] Evasion
/cast Sprint
This way I can still have just a sprint button if I am in stealth. Out of stealth I can launch Cloak of Shadows and Evasion. Thanks for the idea!

Thats a good idea, I might look into that.
Just two small things I felt I should share.
1) I got a 10k evis crit on my shitty geared rogue :D I did have four TotT up though so come patch time it wont be happening till I get better gear
2) I replaced a glyph with the ambush glyph. Now theres no right or wrong when it comes to glyphs its a personal choice, but after messing around with it I can honestly say if you 5 box rogues and you dont have this glyph.. You're doing it wrong! :)
