I'm trying to do some very basic dual-boxing. I'm running 2 clients on 1 computer, each out of a separate folder. I have my low-level character do /follow on my high level character for running through instances and such. I'm seeing a lot of lag between the two clients though, so much that my low level character will lag so far behind he'll drop /follow.

Am I doing something wrong?

Nope, no speed enhancements. High level is bear-form druid, so no talents for speed either.

I have the same problem, every so often one of my extra guys will stop behind and I'll have to go collect them, everything else works fine its just the follow command that's a problem. Means I have to keep stopping every so often and let them catch up, its not major but it is annoying :pinch:

I'm not a big fan of using Keyclone for my movement keys, but would that be a better option then /follow?

i've been a victim of this since i started, just figured it was normal. is it? or is there a way to keep the gap to a minimum without enchants or using my movement keys with keclone? i use my mouse to look and steer my way around, so that just wouldn't work for me. tried that in the beginning and everyone would scatter when i moved, then i started with the /follow command.

There IS a do not pass list so you can move with your movement keys.

yeh just do-not-pass with w,a,s,d keys so u can go to all the clients and move individually..
for the problem with ur guy falling off /follow..
ur going to need to improve ur computer... (if ur lagging a little and thats why ur falling off)
OR
u have latency issues where ur comptuer is not connected to the server fast enough.. so ur /follow does not repsond faster enough leaving him behind after a while.. this is because of 2 reasons.
1. your not close enough to the server of wow.. try another server that is closer to u. less latency so the server responds to ur keypresses faster..
2. ur internet is bad.. or not good enough.. might have to get a new router or a new server for hard core multiboxing

I have sub-100 latency, top out around 150 with both clients open. I'm on a Core 2 Duo (e8400) with 4gig RAM under Windows XP (which only sees 3.25gig). My internet connection is rock solid - I work for the ISP that provides it, and my line stats are excellent.

lans83 - I use my mouse for movement same as you, which is why I'm looking for an alternative to keyclone movement. Setting up the do-not-pass and using /follow was my solution, but it's too laggy. I assumed it was just my setup, as I don't see this problem in any video I've ever watched. It's annoying, and kinda putting me off dual-boxing for now.

that's a link to the laptop i ordered from Newegg and am running 4 accounts on. all settings are set to minimum on all accounts including my main. the distance and spell effect are turned up all the way only on my main, doubt that is the issue. my net connection is cable, getting about 300kbs, i'd have to pay damn near double to up the speed where i live. i get about 30-100ms on my lag on earthen ring, so far it's the best server with less lag i've played on. that's soloing and running all 4 accounts. my laptop is connected directly to my router which sits on the shelf above it with a 5 foot cable runnin to it. i use my mouse to look around while i'm using the WASD keys for movement, but only use the A&D keys to strafe. tried to stick keys only, but can't get used to it. i play alot of FPS games, so if you're like me, you know it's hard to let that go. i have my accounts in 4 separate folders with the data and interface folders symlinked from my main WoW folder all on the same hardrive, only have one with it formated to a C:/ and D:/ drive, came that way. I keep all the windows minimized till i need to interact with that toon to cut down on system drag. main account affinity set to core 0 and slaves all on 1 in setup on keyclone. fpsbk across all set to 15 and max set to 60. cpu manages to stay below 50% usage with this setup and ram still has about a full gig left to spare runnin on 4gigs on vista 64bit ultimate. all drivers are up to date. sometimes i even have to press a key more than twice for it to register across all clients too. is this a lag issue with the server, or a system problem?
