Whether or not I'm using keyclone, I get this error: "World of Warcraft unable to start up 3d acceleration. Please make sure direct X 9.0c is installed and your video drivers are up to date"

I used to dual-box a few months ago with no problems, I'm not sure what has changed. Here are some things I have checked.

- Both instances of WoW are using 24-bit color depth, with 1x multisampling

- Video drivers are up to date

- I have tried both 1-to-1 ratio in maximizer, as well as 800x600 and 1280x1024

- If I load them up in reverse order, I don't receive the error but the 2nd window is all black (except a few foreground elements) and laggy.

- Separate WoW folders

-Both set to Windowed Mode

I also ran into this problem when I was first setting up dual-boxing, but back then I was able to fix it by changing them both to Windowed Mode via the video settings in WoW. I think I may have also had to set only one, or both of them to the same color depth/multisampling. I have tried many combinations and no change now.

Could you provide your system specs please?

AMD Althon 64 4000+
2GB memory
7800 GT
Windows XP

I'm not sure how much that will help, since as I said I've dual boxed on this system with this setup (afaik) before.

Here's the txt from dxdiag:

are u into more content now? like are u in northrend compared to pre-BC places? this increases lag.. Also, over the past months you may have installed more programs that are slowing down ur computer.. so try and uninstall them to improve ur computer.. Finally, update everything u can find.. like ur drivers for ur videocards, CPU,... ect..

You are a fucking genius bro, I never would have thought that sound in the background could cause such VIDEO PROBLEMS.

Anyways, thanks again for the help Keyclone! While I have your attention (I hope), I'd like to pose another question if that is OK.

How do I delete a file with no name? I have 2 subfolders named " " (yea, one space) and when I delete them in Windows it works, but when I try to empty the recycle bin I get "folder not empty" error. I tried Restore so I could then use DOS to delete it manually and it shows as deleted but when I tab back to Windows the folder is still there. In case you're wondering, I ended up with the folder names because thats what I called my Warcraft 3 profile in single player.

You can run WoW out of one install. You can also try using the search for symlinks to save space without losing the functionality of seperate folders.

select the file in windows explorer, then hit shift+delete.

this will delete the file without putting it in the recycle bin

select the file in windows explorer, then hit shift+delete.

this will delete the file without putting it in the recycle bin

"Cannot move the folder: directory is not empty"

I'm just going to try Safe Mode with command prompt and if that doesn't work I will burn a true DOS boot CD.. friggin windWOES.

is the folder empty? dbl-click and go in... ctrl+A to select all... shift+del will perma-erase all files. then back out and try removing the folder again.

of course, you could rename the folder when you select it... just hit F2 and type a name.

If I do that it says "cannot delete file: cannot read from source file or disk" I get the same message from trying to rename it also. I think windows is just freaking out because its a file with no name and you cannot create that from within windows. I think I need to boot without windows to delete it.

edit: a quick google search took me to http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/howto-delete-xp.html and the download @ step 6 worked like a charm. Sorry for wasting your time!
