View Full Version : 5 shamans in instances

So, in addition to my PvE-centric team of Warrior/Priest/Mage/Mage/Warlock that I have sitting at lvl 50, I just created a 5-shaman group for PvP on another server (my friends PvE server Pernolde) and I was wondering a few things...
For you guys that have done (or are currently doing) the 5-shaman trek to 70, do you feel like you need to be on the higher end of an instances level range to do the instance? For example, many of the mobs in ZF are lvl 42/43... did you need to wait until lvl 45 to jump in there?
Its just hard to believe that you could roll into an instance at same-level and tear it apart without a tank. What level did you start to effectively do deadmines? I'm only level 8 with the shammies, and plan to mainly focus on my PvE group while leveling the shamans only at full rested XP... but I'd love to hear from you.

My shamans are 55/54/48x3 atm and I did this(Path of the 3 fresh):
Used my 70 mage for lvl 10-38 on 4th box.
Lvl 1-5 Quests in Exodar
Lvl 5-10 Quests in Goldshire area.
Lvl 10-20 Ran them through DeadMines
Lvl 20-25 Stockades
Lvl 25/27ish SM Library
Lvl 30-38 SM Armory/Cath
Lvl 38-43 Added in the 4th sham who was 53. 4box'd Uldaman.
Lvl 43-45 4box Mara Purple/Orange side.
Lvl 45-48 Mara Instance Quests, ZF Quests, Tanaris Kill Quests, and some Searing Gorge. This is when I added the 5th shaman. 4 Shamans is a really nice setup, but when you add in the 5th it becomes ridiculous you can drop mobs before they even come close to getting to you. Pull 4 or 5 with NP at all. Open with 5x CL, LB, Stoneclaw Totem, Fire Nova Totem, CL again, Magma Totem, and almost everything should be dead. LB off the stragglers I also use earth shock in my rotation whenever it's not on CD. Having 2x Totem of Wrath is ridiculous and soon as you hit 45 and start getting Lightning Overload your damage starts to multiply like crazy.
If you do run all 5 together you can pretty much drop instances at the same lvl, just equip each shaman with shield and make it so your healing macros everyone casts. Mine are F1-F5 with lesser healing wave, F6 each shaman casts LHW at the sametime on their self, and then F7 everyone chain heals with [target=player]. Stack a lot of INT/Stam for Crit/Mana/HP. You can get some pretty decent spell dmg off instance drops, my 48s are in like mix of mail/leather/cloth mostly cloth till 40s. Another thing you can do is spec your 4 clones 3/3 elemental precision, but spec your "main" 0/3 and give him/her +threat to gloves enchant. Makes agro management a breeze.
If you're draeni 5x Naaru is OP for bosses.

After I finish my pve team(up to 60 now), I'm going with 4 shamans and a pally for pvp. Don't know how it'll work out yet, but we shall see.

Prot paladins = best PVE multibox tank, dunno though Ellay runs 4 shamans with a 5th being some one playing a healer in their 5v5 team. You may be able to pull off healing and killing in 5v5 with pally as holy pally.

I've been doing heroics with mine. There's some instances you can do and some you can't. But how many instances can you run in an afternoon? 5 boxing shaman is viable at 70 for sure.
When I was leveling I found myself needing to be a little higher than with my traditional group. This disappears slowly as you get higher and get more of your spells.

If you replaced 1 shammy with a prot pally, think you'd be able to complete those instances you can't do now Remote? Just wondering.

Hmm, never played a Prot Pally, but I'll take the other boxers' word for it on that one.
If I had a tank and specced one shaman resto, it would work quite nicely I think.
Now that I think of it a Pally would probably be best because 4 shaman have no CC. Would be nice multi-tanking.

I ask because I'm making 4 shammies next. Already have a 70 prot pally. I like the aoe method of doing instances. Not sure yet if I'll have them just heal me while I pull groups, or chain lightning etc.
It'll mainly be my pvp group, but if they can pull off heroics too, so much the better.

You can't go after the princess in Mara, your spells are useless on her. And in ST after you kill the prophet the 2 dragons that come out and circle around the ring are immune to most of your spells... so I didn't even get to the larger dragon. What a waste of a few hours.

Yes, obviously any instance full of mobs immune to nature damage is not a good one to be farming. Like that one wing of Dire Maul.

The Princess "is" immune to nature damage, I always had to Frost Shock her to death. Mara is gay for the 2nd half, I didnt go there much.
