I'm a monitor maniac and I'm thinking of buying 8 Gateway XHD3000's ('http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824113013') all run with max resolution(2560x1600) and pull them on 2 Sapphire RADEON HD 4850 X2's ('http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102813') and i was wondering if you thought the vid cards was good enough for that ?

EDIT: Thinking of buying Samsung SyncMaster 305T's ('http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001098')instead of the Gateway XHD3000

I know its not what you asked but I thought Id just say before you spend all that money on big monitors. Most people I have seen who bought a bunch of big monitors have soon regretted it as it is near impossible to react quickly when you need to look 3 foot to the left to see what a toon is doing. I bought 6 22" monitors and later took 3 back because I just couldnt react fast enough (Not to mention it was very uncomfortable to play straining my neck to look at different monitors). If you do end up getting that setup though please post some screenshots as it will look sweet :)

I don't know if you are actually serious, but will repeat what Clone has said....boxing with a bunch of big monitors is a bad idea. You will not be able to see many things that will be going on because 4, maybe even 6 of your monitors will be mostly out of your vision.

I have six 20" monitors and it took alot of getting use to, I had a pain in my neck for the first few weeks. There is no way you can be comfortable with 8 x 30", you would regret it quick.

Putting 4 of those monitors on each card (2 monitors per GPU) would really stretch the limits of their capability. Will it work, probably. Will it heat your entire living room during the dead of winter, definitely.

Let us know how it works out :D

I like monitors. Right now I have 3 22" side by side and its about as wide as I'd go. I'm planning on adding 2-3 more mounted about that, but I'll need to play around with distance so I can see them all.

Problem with 8 is there is no clean layout. 9 would give you a box at least.

I also wouldn't run them off of one machine, you just aren't going to get enough CPU and I/O to do anything useful even if the graphics cards can handle it. Also consider that windows will revert to software rendering on any display adapter other than the primary one if the application doesn't specifically handle it and WoW only handles the default adapter.

If you reall want 30s, I'd say get two for middle top and bottom and then flank them with 19's.

Bad idea. Just way too much screen real estate. Also, driving 4 30" monitors from a single 4850x2 is going to severely limit the FPS on each monitor, even with everything dialed down.

Before I hop on the bandwagon of 'too many monitors' I'll ask you first:
How far are you planning on sitting away from the screens?

If you were planning on boxing from your couch like owltoids, I think 8 monitors would work for two reasons:
1) You are far enough away to actually be able to use all 8 screens without turning your neck like an owl.
2) You can lower the resolution, and not notice the differance. That far away, your eye won't be able to tell the differenace as much as sitting right in front of the screen. This will lessen the load on the cards dramatically.

If you are sitting at a normal desk, two feet away from your screens: Enjoy your tan.
