Hey this just started recently (past 3 days). I run 1 pally 4 shaman and ive always had good latency on all of them 120 or less. well the past couple days 1-2 chars will be at 100 ms and the other 3 will be at 700+ i cant figure out why this is happening. I restarted my modem ect and its still the same but good latency switches around to different characters. Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like some bandwith s being chewed up somewhere.

Any background programs running MSN etc torrents? I would suggest you use a virus program for a scan and also a spyware scanner. You may have some spywear on your system.

My understanding about the random ness is that Windows assigns priorities to different running programs and allocates resources acordingly.

Try this running a traceroute to blizzard. This post explains how to read it. There maybe a problem here.

How to do it.

Running a Traceroute on Windows XP:
1) Go to Start (start button on the lower left of the desktop)
2) Choose 'Run'
3) Type: "cmd" (no quotes)
4) This should bring up a DOS prompt. Once there, type: "tracert domain.com" (without quotes) ... use 12.129.232.117 (blizzard logon server)
This should result in a series of hops from your computer to the server you are tracing to.

If you are running a wi/fi conection make sure its password protected.

I'm fairly sure that there are other factors involved as well. I often have 1/5 clients with noticably higher ping than the others. My setup is 5 clients across 3 wired machines. My guess was that cpu/memory(keep in mind client memory leaks/bloat over time) constraints caused additional latency occasionally. With standard variances that networks predictably encounter and host-specific factors would likely cause wow to register one client as worse performance than others.

i had this same problem right when i started too and i did the tcp registry edits seen here ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&postID=24972#post24972'). they worked like a charm for me but i dont know if your actual problem is the same as mine or just the symptoms but if youre comfortable adjusting your registry it may be worth a try.

Unfortunately this symptom can be related to many different problems. I had the exact same issue but for me it was a bad cable modem - once the cable modem was replaced I have not had the issue since. Oddly enough WoW is one of the only places the problem would be noticed. I could download torrents at 500KB/s but my WoW bandwidth would drop tremendously - and if I ran a speed test it would sometimes show 5Mbit sometimes it would show 200Kbit.
