View Full Version : What application is best for my simple setup?

Ok, after reading all kinda of FAQs until my head began to hurt and visiting the sites of Keyclone, Autohotkey, and Hotkey.net I am confused on which would be the best for what I am trying to do.
I simply want to dual instance 2 Characters simultaneously to 60 on my single machine. I control a pally which I use to tank and a shammy which I use to heal.
I would like to control both characters from my Pallys screen. Really all I would like the shammy to do is heal me and be able to loot if possible for collection quests while following me around. (mouse over healing would be great since I use clique and grid with my healers)
If you have any reccomendations of what software would be the easiest to accomplish this it would be much appreciated.

Effective multiboxing is not something you can jump into without a decent amount of time invested. You could just download Hotkeynet's sample script and be on your way with key broadcasting. You'll still need to make macros and set keybindings, but if you're not very interested in that aspect then, honestly, multiboxing isn't for you.

I have multi-boxed fully automated groups and instances in everquest before this using macroquest in conjunction with wineq using several machines and I know very well what kind of time and effort it goes into multiboxing, thanks. But I really didnt ask you if multiboxing was for me or not, I indicated that I would like to dual instance and what people would recommend if that is the route that I choose. For the record:
1) I am not interested in making fully automated groups (I know most multiboxers dont) since it is against the WoW Eula and I really dont feel like being banned.
2) Ecomocially dual instancing works better for me.
3) I do have extensive scripting experience from the above experiences. Just because I have 1 post on this site does not mean I am not comfortable with making macros, as I can write them in my sleep.
That being said, what would some of you recommend that I use for what I would like to do?
Thanks in advance.
Since you used WinEQ before I don't mind saying this to you: ISBoxer ('http://www.lavishsoft.com/wiki/index.php/IS:ISBoxer') makes configuration easy. I believe it's easier than any of the other solutions, but I'm also biased on that. Either way, there's a walkthrough video in 2 parts that shows you basically what you would do to set it up, and you can register for a free 7 day trial of Inner Space if you want to try it.

If you are just doing it to level to 60, then just go with one of the free options, they will get the job done. I use innerspace/isboxer on my main desktop and keyclone on my laptop and they both work for me. keyclone has a much shorter setup time, but doesn't do as may cool advanced features that i think IS does very well. But neither of these options are free, and if you aren't going to continue after getting to 60 (one RaF session to get some alts I'm guessing) then it makes no sense to invest additional $. If I were going to do this, then i'd probably look at hotketnet and autohotkey as the leading options for free. However, I have no experience setting those up.

Hey Lax.. Had no idea you were on this site, really enjoyed your work when I played EQ. Is ISX agaisnt the WoW Eula? That is my only concern

Aboron,
Thanks for the response. Yea, this is just an initial RAF session to get some alts (that is how it always starts doesnt it :P ) . For now I just want to try dual instancing successfully, which may progress into other things.

Well if you're going to continue, then i'd recommend ISboxer too - and for legality, just don't ever touch ISX-anything (the 3rd party extensions for IS) and you should be fine. I'm sure i've been reported at least a half dozen times since i've switched without any resulting time off.
Hey Lax.. Had no idea you were on this site, really enjoyed your work when I played EQ. Is ISX agaisnt the WoW Eula? That is my only concern No, Inner Space is not against the WoW EULA. Some people think it is based on flawed interpretations or some ambiguous terms that could allow Blizzard to ban for anything they want, but beyond that ambiguity, the answer is no. I have been playing WoW myself using Inner Space for several months now, using ISBoxer since it was available. My videos show my own characters, and I tell anyone who asks exactly what software I use. People have told me theyre reporting me, and I tell them to go right ahead, I even tell them the software I'm using and where to find my videos. I know with a high degree of certainty that I'm not going to get banned for multi-boxing with Inner Space. I can't project that certainty to everyone else at this time (well I mean I'm trying to convey that, but if I were a random reader I wouldn't necessarily take it as read from the author that something is okay to use, but the months of banless usage by a good number of pepole helps a lot), so it's up to everyone else as individuals to make that call for themselves.
keyclone has a much shorter setup time I'm not so sure that's true from what most people tell me.

From my experience, the total time to be up and repeating with keyclone and 5 accounts was about 30 minutes, the total time before i had the same functionality in IS boxer was over about 60 minutes - so they are on the same order of magnitude for a base install. So when i say it was quicker for me, i don't mean by days or even hours, i'm just thinking at the ADD-fly-of-the-handle-if-i-don't-get-instant-gratification-immediately-first-time-user level of difference.
And this is only counting the first time i ever saw either program (so i'm actually comparing a finalized product with about rev5 beta here, so it may be different if i could go back and try again with the current version, but it's too late for me now).
