View Full Version : Boxing Old World Raid Content at 80!
So, who has successfully boxed old world raid content? For me, I am currently stuck on the 1st boss in AQ 40. When the boss does MC's, my guys just tear apart the raid. Currently I am 8 boxing the content. Currently going in order of releases so once i finish aq40, its off to BC!
MC: Easy to box.
BWL: Harder to box but once you get Ony Cloaks, trivial. Pulled firemaw without trying and downed him easy, but needed ony cloaks past ebon.
AQ40: Stuck on first boss, Best attempt got him to last split at 25% before my shamans wiped me and my priest completely healed the boss.
Post Strats / Successes if you got them!!

Would also be nice to find out how viable 5 boxing the content is. I know there are some fights where having only 5 characters might make a fight impossible - if this is specified it will let us 5 boxers know which stuff to try soloing and which stuff to ignore :)

I recently completed the AQ40 scepter chain on my main (bored out of my mind really) while doing about 1/2 of it on my shamans. I found:
MC is a joke, you can probably solo this instance with a geared 80. I actually take 15 mins a week now and kill garr/baron to farm bindings, got 1 binding so far on my pally. It took me about an hour to clear the entire instance when I needed a book for my AQ scepter, I'd say Baron Geddon is probably the hardest boss in there (I fight him in the tunnel and spread my team around so they don't hit each other, my pally de-magics people rapidly). If you have a direbrew remote you can port over and head into MC from brd within 5 minutes -- jump through the lava.
BWL is tough, I couldn't get past the first boss as a 5 boxer. You have to MC razor (so down to 4 ppl), and adds stream to him and the person MCing. I think with practice its definitely 5 boxable, but bleh. I got some friends help with him, then they left and I 5-boxed the rest of BWL no problem. Did wipe on drakes and nef a few times but got it done eventually, easier just bringing in friends/pugs. The trash is more annoying than bosses, just face the drakes away from people and I used pally bubbles to temporarily remove debuffs (the drakes are 10x easier if you can bring 2 tanks).
ZG and Karazhan and ZA are jokes, I farm the first boss in kara every week for mount (got 1!) and the 2 ZG mount bosses every 4 days (0 mounts qq). Just all tank'n'spank.
I had to spend ~20 hours farming the first trash pack in AQ40 for rep, I tried the first boss and as you found out the MC is brutal. I actually found it easier just to do it solo on my prot pally, got him down to 10% and then self-wiped since I didn't want to save to instance. On my server there are dozens of old-world pugs that run weekly, and they all love multiboxers.
The 1st boss in BWL, just tank all the crap on the platform with the MC orb and just constantly drop concentrate + magmas and your golden to kill eggs. once the eggs are gone ( and make sure the last egg is on the other side of the room) have your tank get aggro far enough away and burn him fast. He will conflag your MT so, having an earth elemetnal or two would help.
Vael, just hope your tank doesnt get the death debuff and burn him as fast as you can. 8 boxing i think i lost 2 guys before he dropped.
Suppression room is a pain in the ass if you dont have a rogue. I brought my rogue friend in just for that one room.
Past suppression you want ony cloaks on all your guys.
Drakes are easy with ony cloaks.
Chromagg was hard because I havent done him in a LONG time. you can cleanse the debuffs so throw down 2 disease 2 poison staggered. you want 2 of both if you can because if you get all 5 of the debuffs you get MC'd and wipe your party.
Nef is fun with the new DK move he does, but he is extremely easy. 1st phase just group in the center and drop magmas. 2nd phase have the tank pick him up, and burn him down. he fears but not sure if tots get them. Target wild totems if he does his shaman move.
For aq40, i think the hardest boss is the first and last. I am confident if i get past the first boss, i can make it to Cthul.

Vael - 2nd Boss in BWL.
Because of the debuff that basically outright kills you - you normally need like 15+ people just to eat the death debuffs. At least, I don't see of any other way of doing it.
EDIT: How are you guys 5-boxing Vael?Loads and loads of damage. However, I've only done it with 6 (a prot warrior from my guild joined). Since your tanks will always explode one after the other having a second tank was a really good idea. Also, if you box shamans you've got the cool advantage of ankhing and fighting a second time once a char explodes.
Got him down right as the second tank exploded.
kind regards

I believe Cthun is impossible to 5box, being as once you are in his stomach he stills does a % of your health. It kills casters fast, but melee are ok.

c'thun does damage in your stomach as a multiplier of your spell power, its totally retarded. a caster has to get out asap, a melee can hang out and kill the stalks and you can burn c'thun in 1 phase easy.
a trick for nef is to hang out on the step behind the throne room during phase1, all the adds come to you and you can just kill them all with magma/cl (they hit like babies). when he lands and breaths he wont kill anyone (even w/o cloak) behind throne. your tank should have cloak though, otherwise taking 20k damage every breath. tank him facing away from throne, move other guys up a bit, keep tremor totems down, and its fairly straightforward - just magma the adds at 30%.
still, all in all aq20, mc, za, zg, kara are all easily 5 mannable and its easier to take 5-10 friends/puggers into bwl/aq40 since you'll clear the instance 10x faster. Its not hard usually finding a few 70-80 DKs who want to run it for achievements/old weps.
Went back to aq40 last night and burned down most of the bosses. 1 shot all the bosses up to the twin emperors. The twins wtfpwned me. I think i need to have two tanks, one on each side taking the hits and just have my casters alternate from side to side.

Heh Zzc2 I forgot you were on my server. Maybe sometime we can try dual 5-boxing Naxx 10 or something. Haven't been in a Raid yet but am already overgeared for all of naxx and most of the rest of the current raids anyway.

I understand that, but you can't honestly say that Naxx would be just as tough for a group of 10 people fully epiced out as it would be for a fresh group of 80's in quest greens and blues - the difficulty level will still plummet downward as gear is higher. Movement will be just as difficult, but a huge DPS increase or less healing needed will mean downing the boss faster and having to move less, and having to worry about healing less while moving, etc.

I understand - I've read wowwiki, thottbot, wowhead, etc on every fight in naxx, and all the other raids available right now in WoTLK - even though I've never been, I want to be prepared in case I do go sometime. :) Of course all the amount of gear in the world isn't going to help prevent a wipe in those few circumstances where there can be an instant-wipe if something is done wrong, but over all if you can get those few parts down good, the rest becomes far easier if you have better gear.

someone once said that you could use the major dreamless sleep potion ('http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=28562') to sleep your way through 90% the "time for fun" part of SL.
I never tried this myself. I think they said you could sleep thru 13 of the 15 seconds of the mind control ( or something to that affect ).
someone else told me that the SL "time for fun" gets harder the better geared you are and that you could remove weapons or reduce gear before the mind control ( I never tried that either ) to help survive the event.
I just wonder if you can't pop this potion as the raid warning goes up and sleep through this mind control as well. Just a warning though any dmg taken will wake you up so anyone on the team that isn't sleeping can wake the rest of the team.

Has anyone done Ossiran, the final boss of AQ20? Having done the fight at 60 I knew the whole instance very well and breezed though the first two bosses. (I skipped the others since the achievement is all I'm after) Healing through his damage is easy enough, even with the damage buff, so I didn't bother kiting him around to the pyrimds. However, every time I wiped (tried three times) it was because he casts a 30 second Cyclone on the tank and then owns the rest of the group. Any idea if it's possible to do this without a second tank? Group comp is in sig, thanks!
Edit: Cyclone, not Whirlwind.

On the first boss in AQ40, I think we used to CC the person mind controlled. That one I'm not too sure on, its been a while. But I know for a fact that we removed our weapons to really help with less melee damage.

Has anyone done Ossiran, the final boss of AQ20? I don't really remember much of a problem with a dk and 4 druids. Heal through it, I had my guys spread out (from knockback I believe) and a priest buddy of mine helping.

The strat we used on the first boss in AQ 40 was to send a hunter pet on the real boss, once he splits the hunter pet continue to attack the real boss.
We always sheeped the ones that got mced and used 5 tanks. Only the MT needed to be prot, the others were fury warriors in tank gear. The reason we wanted 5 tanks was if a tank got mced another one picked the add upp, the real boss didnt mc or i might remember wrong.
I read your post about the Twin Emperors and its not a tank and spank fight.
Without doubt a bloody annoying fight with bad luck.
It took my guild 3 months to kill theese suckers, we already cleared 8 bosses in naxx before we managed to get a kill. It took us 2 days to kill cthun who was cake compared to theese suckers.. What always wiped us was unbalancing strike that lowers defence with 100. This + a fast meele attack always "one shotted" our tank and wiped us.
I used to tank the caster boss on my warlock wich wasnt much of a problem.
We had 2 warlock tanks and 2 warrior tanks just beeing ready for everytime they teleported.
When the caster boss was with me i tanked him wiht searing pain, when he teleported to the other lock/warrior i dps bugs and lifetapped back lost mana.
You should be able to do 1 mill damage in 15 fairly easy but i have my doubts you will manage to outdps 30k of healing each tick with 5 toons.
Tried twins again last night, and the best i got them to was 60%. I only tried 4 times but the problem is when they do the teleport switch, the old spells my guys were casting fly across the room and aggro the caster twin, so he runs all the way back to my other guys. I need a deadly boss mod or something to tell me when they are switching so i can stop casting to avoid aggro.
After failing on twins, I went to try BC content. I tried High king Malgar in gruuls lair and wiped many times trying to do it. I think the best attempt at it was downing 3 of the adds before wiping. not an easy fight. I think i just need another tank, maybe a healer to get some of the adds off me. (constant loss of character control sux)
After failure there, I headed over towards Doom lord Kazzak. EASY guy. downed him in 1 min 3 seconds. 500g is nice and it paid for all the repairs for the day from wiping.
Headed south looking for Doomwalker but he wasnt up. Went inside of Black Temple to look around.
Did 2 attempts at High warlord Naj'entus. 1st attempt i didnt know what to do and wiped from not spreading out 10 yards. 2nd attempt got him to about 60% before he did his bubble. Spikes killed my healer so everyone fell after that but he seems doable.
