This thread is a collection of my Heroic PvE videos

I will keep all of the PvE videos that I have created in here for easy access should anyone want to see them for strategies, etc. I have remade my DTK/Gundrak videos and re-encoded them with DivX - they still look decent but the size is about 1/2 of what it was with WMV. After rolling with the DK for so long I have a pretty good idea when to heal based on what I'm fighting (types of mobs, how many of them, etc).

I just ran UP and recorded all of the boss fights - special treat, I got the "Lodi Dodi We Loves the Skadi" and "My Girl Loves to Skadi All the Time" achievements while I was recording the run, so it will be useful for anyone trying to get those achievements. Running UK right now and recording those bosses, then I will make some videos - expect them to be uploaded and in this thread tonight. Will probably do the achievement on Keleseth as well (don't shatter any tombs) for this recording.

Heroic UP added - For Skadi, I did the method of grabbing 6 harpoons and resetting (don't worry I used a transition without wasting video time with me grabbing all 6 harpoons) - also got both achievements from killing Skadi as well (but no drake :( )

Posting UK Video now as well... oddly enough I purposefully tried not to shatter any frost tombs (didn't use magma/elementals, didn't use chain lightning, didn't use thunderstorm, etc), but still did not get the achievement. Not sure why. Maybe my searing totems of my DK's diseases killed a frost tomb before it died or something. Anyone know if frost resistance helps against frost tombs? I'll drop an FR totem and go slow and make sure I don't hit a tomb at all.

I am upgrading my computer and am wondering if i might be able to do some recording for my own enjoyment (never did it before). Would you mind divulging how you go about the recording process (what you use, etc). If you think that warrants another thread I will edit this and remove my comment.

No problem, I personally use FRAPS to record my videos. I think it costs like $20 - works pretty good and doesn't affect my performance too much. It only records the main window that is up when you hit the record button (which is why on some of my videos when I loot on my alts, etc, it shows the mouse moving around but nothing happening.

As far as editing, I started out just making WMV files using Windows movie maker which comes with Windows. It does splits and music overlays etc, but it really only lets you save files as uncompressed, or wmv as far as I could tell. I wanted some extra functionality and wanted to go direct to DivX so I *may* be using Sony Vegas now (Honestly I don't condone piracy but $400 to make WoW videos? yeah, right :) )

Anyway, hopefully that helps.

Edit: Apparently theres a network issue with the fileserver serving up home directories for my web server - should be back up soon so hopefully the videos will be available again before long.

What viewer should I be attempting to watch these in? When the gui appeared, I picked WMP. I downloaded the Culling (w/o sound) this morning and while I get the audio portion, I'm watching the default "windows" visualization in WMP. So, sound but no pictures.

They are encoded in DivX so you will need the DivX codec to play - easiest way is to just go to www.divx.com and download the "lite" version (might be listed as just "free download") - once thats installed, WMP will show the video.

Well I ran VH yesterday and today and managed to get 4 Unique bosses (plus Cyanigosa of course) - hopefully tomorrow I will get the void boss and then I can post a VH video with all 6 bosses in one video :)

Recording Ahn'Kahet right now - assuming it goes well I'll post the video (this is only my second time running it at all much less heroic) - will try the "burn boss down super fast" method for the last boss

Uploading my Ahn'Kahet video now - last boss was kind of a mess - tried to do the "special" tactic on him 6 times and each time he wasn't targetable on his second insanity cast, so by the 7th time when I did it the "normal" way (eat the insanities and heal through them) i was pretty frustrated and lost a shaman. Anyway, still an OK video but I'll probably redo it later - the other 4 bosses worked out well though.

Hopefully I will get the void boss in VH in the next day or two and can upload the entire video for that.

Hachoo, before you go the Sony Vegas route, you might want to play around with VirtualDub. I haven't figured it all out, but I know its free and it handles some of the encoding aspects. I'm still looking around for other solutions that pack more punch, but I'm pretty sure there is something out there that is free. If I track something down, I'll let you know. Might also be worth posting a poll to see what everyone else uses.

I also reccomend FRAPs. Well worth the small fee they charge.

Oh, I already have Sony Vegas (maybe :) ) but I do use Virtual Dub to reprocess the sound in mp3 format (vegas doesn't seem to be able to do that without breaking) which lowers the filesize a lot.

Well I ran VH again tonight and got the voidwalker boss, was all happy thinking that made all the bosses, but then when I went to go put the clips together I realized I had gotten the VW boss twice and still haven't gotten Xevozz, and since he isn't as simple as just a tank n spank I want to make sure hes in the video - will keep running Heroic VH until I get him.

FINALLY got the Beholder boss running VH after 12 runs. Finished the video and uploaded it, added it to the first post, has all 7 bosses in it. It's still uploading but will be done in less than 10 minutes.

Added a video for Heroic Azjol-Nerub. Instance is cake except the last boss is a nightmare. Was my first time running it. I really recommend watching it if you are having issues with the last boss as after wiping 7 times or so I finally figured out placement that worked beautifully and made the entire run easier. Also not sure if you can tell in the video but the absolute KEY to winning is keeping grounding totems down when the venomslinger guys come in.

I watched all your movies and it felt strange that you were tanking with unholy aura on, especially with no dedicated healer. At the last movie a noticed that it seems to be a buffbar error because your stance bar shows frost.

I`m also wondering how you handle healing? Do you run a dedicated healer or do you have healing macro`s for all shammies and just let them take turns depending on mana?
Seemed unreal that you would do heroics without a real healer but that isn`t to much of a problem with a 30k DK and when you have enough dps to burn bosses in 30seconds.

PS, I really liked your tactics in HOL. Just heal, heal and heal.

Atleast I know that I won`t need a resto shaman.I'll try to focus on my shamans more in future videos :) As far as unholy aura - this is a talent in the unholy tree, its unrelated to "unholy presence". I am using frost presence (which gives extra threat and armor, hp, etc) but also have unholy aura which just gives my entire party +15% run speed).

As far as healing, I am not really using any special method, its just brute force. When I need heals I spam my healing macro and whichever shamans end their current cast while I'm spamming the key start healing my DK. It makes it so sometimes I can just heal my DK with 1 or 2 shamans instead of all 4, but now that I have such a high avoidance and large health poll I usually just wait until I'm really low on HP and then let all 4 shamans heal my DK (plus they have such high SP I can heal around 18k health with 1 set of lesser healing waves).

I have been using 4 elemental shamans since I started boxing - never used resto, never plan on it. Even when I was geared much worse I still used 4 elemental, so its definitely doable at all gear levels :)

I've been trying Heroic UP and can easily kill Svala and the guy in the trophy room. Skadi I can't seem to get. thx (and great vids!)Well you're close... its not actually my tank that leaves, its one of my shamans :) So what I do is drop a totem farm including 4x healing stream totems. I send one of my shamans down the hall... when I get near the boss but before I pass him I turn back around so I'm facing the harpoons - I back up my shaman until I'm in front of the boss which starts the event (The event doesn't trigger when you get near the boss from behind, it only triggers when you're in front fo the bosses face so thats why I "back up through him"). Then, I immediately hit my autorun key and flip back to my tank screen and drop a DnD and 3x magma totems on my shaman, then just concentrate on spam healing my DK while I let the magmas, DnD, UB, etc take out the mobs (don't forget to use cooldowns on your tank to avoid getting gibbed). I also throw in a full array of thunderstorms After I take out the initial wave of trash that spawns I run out and grab the shaman from between the harpoons (the one that was auto running back from the boss area).

If you do it this way you can keep all your guys alive and also knock the boss down in 1 pass and kill him within the time limit :) The key is using a shaman to "trigger" the event and not your tank or yes your shamans will get instagibbed :)

I also noticed that you spam one button a lot. Do you have a tank macro for your DK on it? Does it also work for your shamans?

Would be interesting to know how you manage abilities in your group since I`m going to run the same kind of setup.

I have 1 "tanking" macro I spam that is a castsequence for my DK tank. I have a separate button I spam that is my "offense" button for my shamans - can either be LB, or CL, or LvB, or it can be a castrandom.

Aside from that all my other special abilities I need to use are on entirely unique keybinds, for example:

1/alt+2/ctrl+alt+2 = tanking macro
2 = LB
ctrl+2 = CL
ctrl+alt+2 = LvB
alt+2 = Castrandom LB/CL/LvB/Purge
shift+c = 4x flameshock
f1 = DnD
alt+f1 = icebound fort
ctrl+f1 = dark command
v = bone shield
alt + v = anti magic shell (hardly ever use this)
ctrl+c = anti magic zone (hardly ever use this)
4 = rotating earthshocks
5 = 4x thunderstorm
shift+v = rotating thunderstorms
3/ctrl+3 = various heals
ctrl+4 = mana spring totems
alt+4 = healing stream totems
ctrl+alt+4 = 3 mana spring + 1 poison cleanse
ctrl+1 = combination of earth totems (all 4)
alt+f = ToW + 3 searing
shift+f = ToW + 3 magma
ctrl+f = 4 Fire Nova
shift+r = 4x grounding
ctrl+5 = various wind totems (all of them)
shift+t = chains of ice
ctrl+r = death grip
alt+c = 4x earth shock

Ok thats all I can think of now - yes its a ton of buttons, but part of being great at multiboxing is knowing exactly what button to hit and when. I am at work right now and notice I pretty much have every key memorized - I know exactly what button to hit and when I want to hit it and what it does :) Its all about practice.

To be fair though, for PvE during actual combat I really just have to the 1 and 2 key.

Well I ran and videotaped Nexus today - encoding it now then I have to upload it. I also did the chaos theory achievement on anomalus which I think helps see how to do it - its fairly easy to do IMO. Didn't try to do the split personality achievement so instead I showed how to do Telestra the easiest way which is to position your 4 shamans outside the room. Makes the fight a lot easier. Also, for DKs, make SURE you have DnD available when she splits or the splits will wipe your guys. You can see in the video I use 3 abilities on telestra and thats it, then I just spam LB without using my tank macro to save the runes.

Last boss I was trying for the intense cold achievement which I didn't get and it almost cost me the fight at one point when my tank almost died...oh well - aside from that the video came out well.

Not sure if I'll have a chance to do HoS and Oculus before my accounts expire - never been to either one so we'll see.. I almost never record my first pass through because I usually wipe a bunch if the instance isn't straightforward :)

The main this i want to see is how you do Ormorok the Tree-Shaper. For the life of me i can't get my toons under him or move them quick enough to dodge the spikes.

Well I kill him so fast he only has a chance to do 1 spike, but you have 2 options - you can either be literally underneath him, or in my case when the first tiny spikes appeared I ran slightly through him and then turned around. Video is uploading now, I'll link it when its done :)

you can get the last achieve from the dragon boss the regular way (equip PVP trinkets and carry a potion that makes you invuln to chains of ice for 30 secs, if you have a priest just spec disc and mass dispell every few secs while jumping) or there is a dumb-ass way -- simply have one person stand far away, like in the first room or whatever, out of los. the rest of your guys can get 2,3,5 stacks whatever they are comfy healing thru and the person out of combat will get the achieve when the boss is dead.

you should definitely try out halls of stone, the first two bosses and last boss are retardly easy but the brann event is absolutely nuts. i did it once and have never stepped foot in the instance again. oculus is retard easy up to the last boss, and he is just too gimicky for me, esp since if you pug it with 1 it its 10x ezier.

Ok you guys roped me into it. I made a video of Heroic HoS today (oh lord the pain) Brann was a nightmare, took about 10 tries before I got a strategy that worked and even then I lost 2 shamans when I beat it. Put some "special" music in at the end of the Brann fight - it perfectly describes my elation at winning. Encoding video now, will be able to upload it in 30 or so which means it will probably be available in a few hours.

Added Heroic Halls of Stone. Altogether an easy instance, except the Brann event which is the single toughest thing I've ever done in WoW to this point, as a multiboxer and as a solo player. Even while massively overgearing the instance it still took me 10 tries and on the 10th try I still lost 2 shamans when I beat the event. Good luck to everyone, hopefully the video can help someone else finish this event with less pain than it caused me!

well that event terrified me from just watching it. i'm probably gonna try everything else at some point though, mages gear still sucks and can only pull 1500 dps. might end up switching them out for my shamans instead in awhile.

Even with your set-up all clones apart... I see the amount of heal provided by your healing strem totems.. almost 300 heal / tick ... and you spend no talent point on the resto branch ..
You should have the Glyph to achieve so much healing through totems.. or something else..
what is it ? can you share your healing tips on this specific boss ?

thanks :)Well the healing is more like 220 per tick - I used to get around 260+ per tick when I had the healing stream glyph. I have no tricks or anything, but my shamans each have 2300SP buffed with ToW, and I trinket at the beginning of the fight which bumps the ticks up even more (extra spell power from trinket/blood fury) :)

I've seen there some messages such as "Spell not ready" or "out of range" And you have wery nice Buff tracker (upper left corner of the screen near map) i'd love to get the same for my team.

It will be great help for me in my future attemts to do heroics or normals with my team (now 46, but I level them pretty fast) to know what addons you are using and for what particular reason you've chosen each one of them.

It could be Mik's scrolling combat text or maybe the built in. The buff tracker is built into x-perl I believe.

The DPS meter is recount, which is pretty nice. You can do all sorts of breakdowns and examine dps, heals and threat.

The grey rectangle is a mod called "Multiboxer" (i believe the last version is v2). It basically reports the status of your party members so you can see their targets, what they're doing, etc. It also handles whisper redirects, invites, rezzes and accepts quest shares. Makes life a bit easier.

Sure... Ok here is the list:

ctmod - this provides the extra ability bars at the bottom, the buff bars at the top right, and some other various functionality
xperl - the unit frames (party frame, my frame, etc)

multiboxer v2 - this is the grey rectangle but if you want something like this, get Jamba instead - multiboxer v2 hasn't been maintained in like a year - its a amazing it even runs :)
The scrolling text is just the built in WoW scrolling text

Basically I chose ctmod, x-perl, and recount because I've been using them for years and just like them/am used to them. Multiboxer v2 I am using because when I first started multiboxing 10 months ago or whenever it was, it was the only addon available to help with things that I needed for multiboxing (now jamba does everything mbv2 does and more).

I also use other non-combat related mods like auctioneer, etc :)

I still don't get how you can reach 5000 dps with them, I hardly ever scratch the 4k dps mark. Is it the haste I do not have but spent in crit? Is it maybe also the spellpower you got from your racial?

I even use the three different macros to use flame shock, lava burst and lightning bolt without any castsequence / castrandom macro affected by latency and stuff.

:/Theres 2 major contributing factors that will bump up DPS by 1000-1500 easily.

The first: Don't heal during the boss fight - use all your tank's cooldowns and try to avoid having to heal at all (healing stream totems, etc)

The second: Use bloodlust + all offensive trinkets before you cast your first spell. Stopping after FS/LvB to cast bloodlust + trinket uses up a couple seconds that could be spent firing off 1 1/2 more lightning bolts :)

I've found that not healing will generally bump by DPS by 1000 alone, and usually if I cast BL/trinket at the exact same time I pull the boss with my tank, it bumps my DPS by another 500-800. Last night I was fighting Eck and I got 5100/5100/4800/4000 on my shamans for DPS :)

Thats mostly the exactly same stuff what I do - using divine protection and all sorts of stuff so my Paladin won't need any heal, before the boss is even engaged I activate Heroism / Bloodlust and almost at the same moment when my pull hits the boss my shamans activate Elemental Mastery + all trinkets they got while having cast four Flame Shocks already followed by 4 Lava Bursts which - in most cases - get my shamans really close to pulling aggro from the boss since my paladin hadn't the chance to "tank" a bit. :D

I didn't check my DPS lately but I'll check that on Eck tonight or tomorrow, maybe it's really the haste I am lacking.

The problem is that you are using a pally. An unholy DK tank boosts damage by a lot, the tooltip says wandering plague increases spell damage taken by 13% but I wonder if its even more than that. Plus prot pallys take a lot more damage than DK tanks so you HAVE to heal for many bosses, whereas DK tanks can go a long, long, long, long time without heals. I switched from a prot pally to a DK tank and I find it much better once geared up (when I first started with a DK tank I was a bit off, since pally tanks have much better initial aggro, but now I can start DPS right away without pulling, mostly because my DK has gotten good gear).

With patch 3.1 I don't know how the balance works out, and I know a lot of DK opness has been removed (unholy aura, dunno about wandering plague) so probably not worth switching out at this point. 4k dps is great still :)

Of course it's good and I love my paladin, thats for sure. I thought once about the increasted Spelldmg taken - forgot it already but yeah that might be one of the reasons.
I wanted to equip my DK (80 already) to be a tank and I guess I'll go and do that, maybe even running Naxx with him so he'll get good equip sooner than later.

Thanks anyway for mentioning it - just gave me an idea how to proceed next when my shamans can't get any more upgrades and Ill start swapping in other level 80 characters for equip.

And btw - sorry for hijacking that thread for this discussion, it just bothered me. :D

Ah yeah I forgot you have a pally - thats a huge difference... think of it this way (and this is really dumbed down but you get the idea)

If you're doing 4000 dps with a paladin tank, having a DK tank would make your shamans do 4000 * 1.13 = 4520 DPS - thats an increase of 500 just for having a dk tank :) The rest could be attributed to gear, technique, lag, etc.
