View Full Version : 5 Man Setup advice

I have been breezing through the treads trying to get a gauge for what might be a good setup. It looks like a lot of you planned ahead and went with a 3xclass or 4xclass setup. I slowly moved into multi-boxing and I am about to finish the fifth man on the team. But that lead me to ask, is he really the man for the job. Toons are from 71 to (soon to be) 60 and I will be starting with BC 5 mans. Here is what I am thinking:

Tank - Pally: Good AoE tanking, buffs
Healer - Shaman: Totems, chain heals
DPS1 - S. Priest: Buffs
DPS2 - Mage: Tables, ports, buffs
DPS3 - Boomkin: Buffs

Alt1 - Hunter: Already level 80
Alt2 - Lock: No real reason to include
Atl3 - Melee: Seems that melee is harder to manage than ranged DPS

So the way I am seeing it, the team that I have built has the best synergy of all the other combinations. Buffs are either good or in some case overlapping to provide a good mix. As much as I want to drag my hunter into the mix, it doesn't seem like she would mesh well with the rest. So far the only issue that I see is all three of my DPS may be competing for gear. By the end of this weekend, I will have all ten classes at level 60 or above. Is there any compelling reason why I might want to swap someone out for another class? Thanks for any input and I look forward to enthralling you with my exploits (or at a minimum, not boring you to death).

Youve picked a really good setup, your team synergizes very well in my opinion.

I wouldnt bring the hunter in.

I have the same team. However, I have all DPS specs until I start doing Heroics(besides paladin). I was planning on switching my SPriest to Holy when I start. Lately I have been contemplating switching my shaman or druid to resto and keeping my SPriest, but I have to do some homework on that (This would be to maximize DPS, not a personal preference or anything).

Also, you can spec for a dedicated healer now [as you level] or later. You don't need one until heroics, but it's unlikely to make any difference for leveling up/questing. As a side note, my Elemental Shaman puts out the most DPS [or often does] in short fights and is comparable to my other DPSers on long fights. However, I am still gearing up and have not done any heroics yet. So, you may also want to think about which class is best for Resto. Of course, with 3.1 (and 1k payment??) you can go dual spec anyway.

It might also be worth comparing a DK versus a Pally and a Warlock versus a Boomkin.

Thanks for the replies.

Heff, you hit on a couple of my dilemmas so I guess I will see what happens as I go. My DK is about to be 60 and I haven't played him more than a few hours, so I am going to have to do some homework. Interesting point about Shammy burst DPS. I may go all DPS to start like you did.

Thanks again.
