Heya :)

maybe anyone knows how the pivot function works and can give me a tip:

I've bought a 22" TFT "Acer AL2216W". Description from the shop:

pivot function: no

It's ok because the software of my 8800 GTX XXX can turn the output signal 90 degrees in each direction
so it doesn't matter. I've turned my TFT screen 90 degrees to the right, switched on my pc and tadaaa
my welcome screen turned 90 degrees - but my 8800 GTX software wasn't causing this - it looks like
the monitor got a hidden pivot function?!?

so, who turned the screen?

is it a hidden pivot function?

do each screen turn the picture if needed and the pivot function only supports turning the picture even when the monitor wasn't turned?

did the monitor send my gfx card a notice that is has been turned and the gfx card start changing the video output?

did the monitor send my 8800 GTX utility a notice and the software activated the pivot function?

???

I got wallmounts and egotron ds100 monitor stands.

I'm asking why a non-pivot monitor starts turning the picture automatically after I've turned him
90 degrees to the right although he can't do that because he doesn't have a built-in pivot feature?

If a bag 'o gold suddenly appeared at your feet would you ask why or how?

problem is:
if you need two other bags of gold you'd ask where they come from so you can buy them there.

so I need two other TFTs but they weren't built anymore. So I need to have a look at other TFTs
and all of the new ones got "pivot: no" like my old ones. But my old ones got the pivot-function.

That's why I ask why they got them and how it works so I can check if it got something to do with
my gfx card instead of the TFTs or of other things are responsible for the pivot feature.

I just used a L shaped metal thingy with screws and fixed my second monitor on its side on my boombox.

:P

As for hardware having software that allows for things that the hardware wasn't made for. Happens all the time really.

Somehow I doubt any monitor has the capability to "know" if it is standing vertically.

I have 2 AL2216w's and an 8800gts and had to manually setup the vertical monitor.

certain graphics drivers have a keystroke sequence that allows you to rotate the screen. I have noticed this with integrated Intel chipsets that you often change the orientation of the screen when you dont mean to (ie. ALT+CTRL+ arrow keys or SHIFT+CTRL + arrow keys)
