I have a lot of teams left to level so am looking at trying to maximize my XP points as much as possible. One thing I started doing recently is when I first log in head straight for the nexus and kill the first 5 or 6 mobs. Includes the dragonkin and that large tree thingy. Then reset and do again. This is about the equivilant of doing about 4 or 5 quests since each mob gives about 4300 (with rested xp). Then of course I do all my dailies.
Does anyone have any other techiques on maximizing XP?
You pretty much mentioned everything I can think of. It's great to just sit back and do some dailies and make 180k xp easily. Those dailies in Grizzly hills really help all the way to 80.

All the quests till Zul Darak area. That will basically give you some faction and gear to start with. Do the nexus quests to gear your tank properly before he reaches lvl 75... then gear him with some blues from the AH.
At lvl 75 you can safely do Zul darak and Drak Taron keep. The bosses in drak taron keep are extremely easy. Most people skip 2nd boss, but I found that if you keep your group together and just move around when he does the blizzard aoe it becomes really easy fight.
Try this gearing...
First boss from UK --> Dagger for all your DPS casters and probably healer from lvl 70 to 76.
First boss in zul darak --> Dagger for your DPS and healer at lvl 76.
Nexus quests (you only need to do the anomalus boss quest and skip the other bosses) For tank gear til lvl 75. Then get better gear from the AH.
At lvl 75+ I recommend you to just make Zul darak first boss and trash packs and reset. These are really easy fights and relatively fast to do. The first boss is just 3 mobs packs away. I usually do the 3 mobs packs at once by overhealing my tank big time so he doesn't die. It's also very fun to do :)

I assume that by "Zul Darak" you mean Gundrak.

he means Zul Drak in the beginning of his post. its a zone sandwiched between grizzly hills and storm peaks. gundrak is the city/temple on the far east of that zone. i think he meant to say that at the end of his post.... but they all came out... Zuk Darak.

I have to admit that I had no idea how good instanced exp was until yesterday when I took my team of mostly level 71s (and one 75) to Utgarde Keep. 4300 rested exp per trash mob? Versus something like 480-510 exp per non-elite outside? SIGN ME UP! Hell, even the level 75 was getting something like 3000 exp per mob.
I have a lot of work to do in terms of macros and DPS rotations and such, because Keleseth was handing me my head on a platter, and his fight is very simple. But just for the sake of that ridiculously good exp, I figure I'll be spending more time than I anticipated inside of instanced zones...
