View Full Version : ugh. Swift Flight Form.

This should be a joyous occasion! I got my first ever epic flyer on my lead druid. I can only afford one of 'em right now, of course, but figured I'd go ahead and train the one so when I'm just out mining in Outland, I can zip around in style.
Um, big mistake. I didn't realize that Swift Flight Form is not in addition to regular Flight Form, but replaces it. So my lead toon easily outpaces everyone else, and therefore can no longer lead. But this is my gatherer character, who does all the looting/skinning and watches the minimap for mine nodes.
This SUCKS.
The solution, I guess, is to buy a regular flying mount so at least this toon's speed will be the same as the rest of the party's, but that means no more insta-cast take-offs. Another solution would be to re-level mining and skinning on a different toon, so that toon could lead and the epic'd flyer could hop along behind.
Or am I missing something? Is there a way to regulate my lead toon's flight speed to match the alts?
(SUCK!)
solution is simple - get epicness on all toons fast

Your druids are 71? You won't be able to use flight in Northrend until 77, so unless you're planning to stay in Outland, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
If you're going to stay in Outland a while and thus be using epic flight, you can either buy a non-epic flight mount or do what I did for nodes on a non-main toon. Chinchilla + Gathermate. Add node tracking to always on on the leading toon, expand the mini-map size and use large icons from Chinchilla on the secondary toon mini-map {I actually also used Paint.NET to make the tracking dots more colorful so they were easy to see on all backgrounds} . So, then you take a slower toon to lead during travel. On the slower toon's mini-map, all nodes for X resource show up. When you get near one, glance over to your main toon's mini-map and see if it pops as a node on their mini-map.
I also used this method a *lot* for multi-gathering. IE, Toon1 is farming herbs, just tag along Toon2 to grab ore. Double the farming, half the effort. Started doing that after too many times seeing Titanium nodes go to waste.

Simple solution.
Write a follow macro that you only use when flying, that targets the slave toon of your choice.
For mining or herbalism you don't need to level both of them as professions. You could just take them on the toon so that you see the items you want on your minimap.
If you have the ability to switch which toon appears in the main window (pip) you could quickly switch to that slave toon for flying.
Or if you have a decent size to the window can just make that window focus and lead from there.

The Gatherer addon can be set to always display herb/mine nodes regardless of character skill - so I'd use that on your main to see where nodes might be and then double check on a follower.
Generally though I have the 'main' char as a double gatherer, but I can also switch mains fairly fast with a focus based system.

Are you sure it replaces it?
I played my druid at 70 for a long time and unless they changed this with wotlk you should still have it.

Tip: Make sure you select the "Show all spell ranks" in the top of the spellbook window.
Regular flight form should appear in the spellbook then.

Regular flight form should appear in the spellbook then. Nope. Does not show up in spellbook and /cast Flight Form does not work either. It's just like the transition from Bear Form to Dire Bear Form; you lose the lesser form.
Just confirmed on my 80 druid with Swift Flight Form. I believe it has been this way the whole time, but I didn't have Swift Flight Form until just before Wrath, so this might have been a change.

Thanks for the responses, y'all. There's some useful stuff here!
I think I'll give Chinchilla + Gathermate a try. Also, I was thinking before bed last night that leveling another toon as an herbalist/alchemist would be a bit annoying, but not the worst thing that could happen. That'd give me a third transmuter, and herbs skill up pretty fast. I'm going to go with the addon solution first though.
