I decided while at work i would try to PUG heroic VH for the legs. So Im in a group that can BARELY take down the mobs before next portal, however the healer was awesome so as long as I kept stuff off him we lived. Anyways halfway through the mage posts the damage done recount. Yep I'm first on the list as the tank, not too surprising given that I use Howling Blast and AE a lot. However the DPS of the group is unbelievable. Mage does about 1800, not too bad and I'm at 1700.. woot! The terrible dps warrior in my group is 900 dps. That's not a typo. Clue #1 to kick the guy.

But wait! Does he have bad gear? /inspect Hmm he has some epics, lol whats this? A couple defense items. I ask if he tanks and he says no, he looted that stuff for the strength on it. Oooookk. Clue #2 to kick the guy.

Clue #3 is that he doesnt assist me at all. He picks a target that I am not dpsing and goes all out (well 900 dps all out.) It forces me to change targets to get aggro back so my healer isnt sucked dry.

Despite the clues I decide to continue instead of leaving as I was feeling generous. Maybe I could get that guy an upgrade, because he definitely needs the emlbems. So we make it to Cyanigosia and to my surprise the plate legs drop. I realized my mistake as soon as this noob started typing "NEEEED OMG NEEEED" to which I calmly replied, "Hey I tanked this instance and those legs are WORSE than the ones you are wearing." Too late, he needs and wins roll and then leaves group. At least the other guys in group offered sympathy.

Seeing as I have never beaten VH with my shaman group I was quite happy to do so in a PUG, however my spirit was dampened by the loss of some good tanking pants. Which my DK could really use. Oh well, just another lesson to never PuG again.

Oh and I was PUGing because at work I can't MB. If you were wondering.

Sharing loot is one of the reasons I MB.

You can't MB at work? Hell, I can't even play the week I'm at work. I need to work where you do

That sucks man. I have been trying to get those legs too. I am running solo to get them. However, when I join the group I ask if anyone is going after the plate legs too and ask if I can have them. So far everyone has said they are yours if they drop. If there is a plate wearing class in the group I always state that up front. That way if some jackoff rolls on them at least the others can give him a bad name for saying I can have them at the start. The legs have not dropped yet so I will keep trying. I use a script to put a skull on the mob I want them to attack. It works most of the time. Usually the ones who ignore it are dks and warriors. They think they are indestructable so they can attack whatever they want.

Every now and then when I am respeccing to retribution with my paladin I have to monitor my spell cooldowns and actionsbars since I am not used to playing the paladin that way. This is why I do the exact same thing, I just jump into a group (preferably undead), holy wrath, divine storm, consecration and in most cases I am
a) already dead
b) found my bubble fast enough and still alive
c) getting healed like I was one of the tanks.

They really must love me since they are raiding with me week after week while I am doing those things. :>

Wow, that's a prety epic ninja tale.

I ran H VH about 5 times last week with PUGs for the legs, they haven't dropped yet. Seems like the druid staff has dropped every time.

Some of the PUGs were decent, others pretty awful.

In contrast to the tanking legs not dropping, the blue +Hit trinket which I could use on my shammies for raiding did drop a number of times.

Anyways, I went through a bunch of wipes but finally got through it "solo" on my DK/4 shammies this weekend. Cyanigosa was pretty simple actually, what was killing me was that everytime I tried to run this alone I'd get the ethereal guy. Kiting him didn't work too well for me, although I was able to easily kite him in PUGs.

What worked best for me was to set up shammies on the stairs farthest from his cell, pop all cooldowns and pewpew him down. That gave me a little room to walk backwards when I needed space, PLUS I finally figured out that thunderstorm knocks back his adds and gives you some breathing room.

After I succesfully did this, I also /facepalmed when I realized my DK has a snare - chains of ice - that I've never used or keybound. That ought to make this fight pretty simple (would be super simple as a frost DK, but I'm unholy).

Most of the other minibosses seem pretty easy, though I haven't had the void guy solo yet. So, I expect to be running a lot of H VH now; it's close and fast.

My job is pretty simple, but can get hectic fast. As long as nothing is going on I can play WoW. Which is 80% of the time, however it sucks when you just started a naxx run and have to bail... people dont like that, lol.

small update: My DK was able to get pants last night in VH with an awesome all plate group Dk, Dk, Dk, Dk and paladin healer. I wouldnt have wanted to be the healer, but it worked out great. Cherry on top was that all present already had the pants 8)

I stopped multiboxing for a month or 2, so I did quite a few PUGs(I estimate about a hundred). There were never loot problems, however there were quite a few people that had absolutely no clue about how to play the game (e.g. the aggro problems related to non-focussed fire you're talking about).

I'm sorry, but your icon gave it away already :D

I normally do VOA 25 on all chars during a weekend and im shocked to how manny people who do under 1k dps even in ok gear, ive seen people who do 600 dps and when theyr asked to push it they maybe make it to 700-800..

Normally we just kick people who dont make it to 1k, there is no real good reason to not make 1k unless you tank or heal. If they blame theyr gear/spec its theyr own problem and need to upgrade it, but in 99% of the cases its the actual players.

spam lfg for a while.

Oh, please don't.

I understand ninjas are annoying, but I'm actually more like to put YOU on my never-group-with list if you're a LFG ninja spammer. By spamming the LFG you're not just making it hard for so-and-so-ninja to get a group, you're making it hard for EVERYONE in the channel to find a group while having to wade through your spam.

Keep legitimate talk to legitimate channels. Don't make LFG as bad as Trade.
