I bought the OCZ Apex 60gb, which was one of tghe faster SSD's for a pretty decent price (230Mb/s read, 170Mb/s write). Put it in a External 2.5" Sata hub and connected it to my E-sata port on my laptop.
I put two wow folders on it, one for my main that's a complete folder and one for my alts that has the Data folder with a directory junction (mklink /j). I also put my swap file on the SSD instead of my internal disk.
I've notived a very good increase in performance, my FPS is a lot more stable and I've been able to squeeze out a lot more of multiboxing WoW this way. In fact one of the major changes I've noticed is following on epic mounts in Northrend.
reviously when following in northrend, my alts would become invisible on my main all the time, not always losing follow but sometimes they did, but it wasn't easy to spot if they did. In Dalaran I always staggered if I was on all my characters there and in heavy PvE situations like 25 man battles, I also noticed a decrease in performance. With my new SSD that's all gone. Following through nortrend never went so smooth, walking through dalaran can still drop my fps a little bit but feels a lot smoother and 25 man battles, no problems there anymore!
SSD through external 2.5"sata hub and e-sata cable to laptop was big success! Loving it. :D
