View Full Version : Aaand...the idiocy race is off again, as another World Event starts

LOL. Not crying, I'm laughing at how many players logged on this morning and are fighting each other, camping NPCs to get cards and such.
I love this event, as a MB team can ring each other if heartbroken, and throw arrows and rose petals at each other.
Ironforge was'nt too bad, for grabbing guards, but Stormwind was completely ridiculous - players on epic mounts are grabbing NPCs as other players are standing there trying to talk to them. The griefing and bad manners are nothing new, which is why I skip these events, or just do them late at night, towards the end, when they've all gotten their achievements and moved on.
It's amazing how badly players treat each other, nothing brings out the worst in them than these events. That's why I just make popcorn and sit back and laugh at them fighting like little kids in a playpen. :)

I once did a quest in Azeroth and had a dude shout at me for stealing his loot on his server and demanding I gave him back all the drops I had found.
Ha, ha.
But no, he meant it.
Idiocy and WoW go well together. :p

I'm a party pooper. I tend not to do these events unless it is either really interesting, something that takes very little time, or benefits me in some way. I tagged as many elders as I could for the Lunar event because I did a lot of boosting and the rep could come in handy (total of 5625 rep if you get them all, not counting any human bonus).
I tried a little bit of this in SW this morning, but once I go turn in the last part of the quest chain, then I'm not going to bother anymore. I did very little for the Christmas event, as well.

You know, it's soon the day of the year we all have to be nice to eachother. (Valentines.)
I hate valentines tbh. Would rather be nice to each other 364 days a year, and assing one day we all hate eachother instead.
All these celebrations and special days and mothersday, fathersday, valentines, tons of other stuff. Seriously, all a load of hypocritical bullshit!
But ofcourse for saying that I'm suddenly Mr. bad guy. :<
Bitter taste of irony. :P

My 2 female gnomes should totally do "Love's In The Air". They exchanged Christmas presents too! Albeit a little late...

I agree with you that we should honor the sentiments that these holidays represent year round, but I don't see that the holidays themselves are hypocritical or bad (unless you consider how a lot of them are kind of pushed on us by retailers and we're not "doing it right" unless we're spending money or whatever). Treating your mother/father/loved one/gradpappy/pet/mailman/whatever well year round and having one particular day in which you honor them doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. I mean I think most of us appreciate the contributions that folks like Martin Luther King or the soldiers that fight for us make to us, and when we think of them we are usually glad, but having one day to kind of remind us of what they did and their sacrifices and honoring that doesn't detract from our thankfulness for the rest of the year. (at least for me anyways, I'm scatter brained and a little reminder never hurt me any) :p
but yeah, I agree with you that though if we had to choose between the two, I'd go with being nice to those individuals year round also. I just dont think the two have to be mutually exclusive. :)

I do agree.
With the hypocritical part, I was aiming mostly at the sudden need people have to do stuff 'because it's a holiday' or 'because their neighbours expect them to'. Or people that visit someone once a year on their birthday, because someone else is going as well, etc. These sentiments happens every so often, and many are guilty to this! That's the part I find hypocritical. :P It's often not about the feeling to participate in such things for the right reasons, but participation for the sake of the collective instead.

I only did some of the elders for the rep, but I couldn't even be bothered to do them all. Maybe next year when I'm out of content again. I'm not going to do most of the world event achievements. Too boring.

The holidays serve to boost the economy. People buy extra out of the ordinary stuff for holidays. IE, presents for christmas, turkeys/food thanksgiving, chocalte/flowers/cards/vibrators on valentines day, candy on october. Little things like that add extra oompf to the economy.

I really love this world event,
most of the players are now talking to npcs, kissing and hugging them so the instance servers are free
and I can boost my team without jumping against the instance portal while waiting for a free instance id.

You were probably running into the issue of your team can only zone into 5 different versions of the instance per hour (limit to prevent cheat farming, etc), I also have never really ever seen the instances ever become "full", and I'm on a (locked) server where usually 1000+ people will be in wintergrasp on evenings.
What I really, really hate about this valentines day holiday is the candy achieve and the 20-hearts achieve. I'm just basically parking my guys by guards and logging in once an hour hoping to get stuff, but the hearts one sucks since you need to find (or become) heartbroken to fix it. lol, sometimes I get heartbroken myself and even before one of my guys can fix it some other random person swoops in and ninjas the fix!
Hopefully can finish the candy achievement on all of them, the candy bags seem to be extremely rare :( It sucks you can't get it for turning in the "vote for leader" quest, so you are stuck trying once an hour to get it.

I spent about an hour or two farming guards for pledges last night. I even got the Dalaran pinic done as I have the basket on a character from last year. Then I read the entry in Pity the Fool. Culling of Stratholme. Great, level 75 requirement. Guess there is no point in bothering with the rest of the achievements for the title.
I'm okay with them having content that is end game. I get that. I just feel cheated in that I missed that one line and had decided I could get the title for my new 5 box group of DKs. I can't level from 60 to 75 by Tuesday, so I'm out of luck. I do think 75 is also a little high for this sort of thing. In comparison, you only needed to be level 55 to get the orphan quests in BC. I would be fine with requiring level 65 for Wrath holiday events. Half the fun for me is trying to get titles on all my alts, not just my max level characters. Oh well, I'm done bitching. Back to Hellfire for me.

is the flying goblin cupid thing still dropping tihs year? Yes. It's a rare drop from the gifts of adoration. You can shift click them to see if there is a goody in there and then trade it to the character you want it on. They might change this though, as they said it was an oversight that some things weren't soulbound. Personally I hope they don't. I don't want to have to hope to get a pet on the one character I want it for. I'd rather try on all of them and then get to put it on a character I choose.
Additionally, a goblin will follow you like a pet if you are hit with an arrow, but it is only temporary.

The pledge bags that guards/NPCS give you are now soulbound, so you can no longer trade them (like you could in the past) to others.
The title does require level 80, since you have to go to strat and naxx (you don't have to kill anything, but you have to be 80 to zone into naxx). To be honest though I don't think many people are going to be getting the title unless Blizzard hotfixes something, the bag of candy is not dropping very often and you need to pull 8 different candies out of it (and each only has 10 charges). Some people are lucky and getting 3-4 bags, I have the achievement completed on one of my guys, but another one of my guys has gotten 0 bags of candy in over 20 pledge bags the past 2 days.

Do you have this problem often? I don't think I've ever had it, and I'm on a launch server (been around since the beginning, full).
I know I've had problems where the instance server was down - but never full?
you're playing on US Realms.
On EU Realms (I know only from the german language realms) on about 75% of all servers you got full instances every evening.
you need about 20-120 minutes to get into an instance (don't try it saturday or sunday evening cuz you won't get in).
only on the ghost realms where you'll find only a handful of lvl 80s you don't have instance problems.
it's very very worse atm on our realms, that's why it sucks to push a team through instances and boost them to lvl 60 with RAF
because it takes longer to get into that instance than to clear it. Instances problems start at about 16:00 and end at 2:00 in
the morning so if you got a job: don't try to do more than one instance / evening.
Due to this event lots of ppl are in sw interacting with NPCs so they aren't in the instances. It took me about 2 minutes to
get into stockades which was very very nice.

You were probably running into the issue of your team can only zone into 5 different versions of the instance per hour (limit to prevent cheat farming, etc),That isn't what he is referring to. It has happened to me on two, maybe three occasions (on a medium-pop server that has the occasional 50-300 person queue for a short time). I don't know if it's due to population or something else, to be honest. What happens is that I try to zone into the instance, I see the loading screen for a split-second, then I am back outside of the instance, with a 'raid-warning' type of message saying something to the effect that additional instances cannot be generated at this time, try again later. After 2-3 more attempts to zone in, I will get into the instance.
Since it only takes me a couple of extra attempts to get in, it hasn't been a problem for me. At worst it costs me a minute of time. I don't know how widespread it is, though.

"Instance server is full."
We see this pretty frequently during peak times on Duskwood. Just gotta keep trying to walk into the instance every few seconds before someone else grabs the next free instance ID. This issue is different from the "You have too many instances" type of issue, which refers to being into 5 in an hour. Only recently (within the last week) started seeing the "full" error. This one can occur on the very first instance you try in a day.

"Instance server is full."
This was a major factor in my recent server transfer. Literally, standing in queue outside an instance, after waiting in queue 20 minutes just to log on?!?!? NO WAI
As far as the holiday is concerned, I have everything (including the pet) on all my toons, except for the damn candy bag BS. I'm what could be called an obsesive compulsive farmer, and have probably hit 35-40 Gift/Pledge of Adorations on each toon, and have seen 4 candy sacks total. W T F
If this shit causes me to fail on the World Events meta, IM GUNNA QUIT THIS GAIM BLIZAZARD (jk, wrong forums)

I think they hotfixed the candy bags today morning, because I've gotten 3 today on my guys in 5 tries, vs maybe 3 bags yesterday in > 50 tries (10 times, 5 guys). In fact I've completed the title now on 4 of my guys, my last shaman however has 0 candy bags on him :( everything else done with him, so hopefully over the weekend I'll get a few bags of candy and finish it up.
Looking forward the Childrens one isn't too bad, except the achievement that requires you to have your orphan out and return a flag in WSG (ugh - maybe it'll count in group, hopefully not personally return)

My personal theory is that a lot of older instances were being spawned for the coins of ancestry, and hopefully now that the world event is over, it will loosen up.
Blizz made Wrath very instance heavy, people are in instances a lot more now, between heroics and Naxx and Wintergrasp, so it's not surprising the instance servers are getting hit.
I would hope that they add more servers when 3.1 hits, with the new raids.
