View Full Version : How many of you have slowness issues in Winterlag...I mean WG?

Normally I can run all 5 of my shamans around Dalaran without much of a problem. It takes a few minutes to have them all load up of course, but once there I get pretty good fps.
Last night was my first venture into WG. I could barely move around much less participate in the action. Once the event ended and I went outside the fortress I could move with no issues.
Are others seeing this? If this is going to be the norm, then I'm not sure I will ever be able to go there with more than 2 maybe 3 tops.

Working as intended.
But seriously, this is pretty normal. There is a lot going on in Wintergrasp that needs to be processed both server side and client side. The best suggestions I can give are to reduce draw distance and spell detail. Even at that, expect WG to lag, especially in the courtyard. Other than that, upgrade your hardware...

Will adding more hard drives and moving wow folders to said drives speed up performance? ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=19237')
This is my thread in the hardware forums looking for help in optimizing performance. Maybe others can benefit from what might come out of that thread. It's kind of like this, I have decent gear...in fact, some are epic, but I need to replace some of my greens.

Are you sure its not server lag?
Im at a medium/low pop server and even then WG freeze on prime times when everyone hit the dance floor outside the keep.

I can barely even pick up the ! quests before all hell breaks loose and I just stand there. I'm on Wildhammer Alliance.

I'm not sure there is much you can do to resolve this. My most recent trip to WG was on a single character. I have a beefy system with a quad core and 8GB of RAM and a 1GB GTX280. I dropped down to < 3fps when the horde were pushing into the courtyard. I'm pretty sure it's not the graphics card, but rather the combat data. I do log combat logs, but it's writing to an SSD, so I hesitate to blame that. I did notice on this particular instance that WoW had bloateed up to 1.3 GB of memory. It's possible that I'd just been running too long and needed to restart the client, but I have noticed similar slowdowns since the launch of wrath. Areas of high activity will bog a machine down and swamp the CPU core. I've tried lower graphics settings to little benefit and upgrading from an 8800 GTS -> 9500 GT -> 280 GTX for video saw minimal improvements in these scenarios.

Thankyou, that will be 27% of your base mana. You were too slow to get the GY mana-free buff.

Ditto.
I have taken to calling it Winter-lag-grasp. Or Winterlag-gasp!
Still, there's nothing more fun than doing an Icy Touch, Death Grip, Chains of Ice all the while spamming LB's.
Then, of course, invariably, a Horde will warp into melee range and mow down half my team before I can get off a Thunderstorm.

It's not your pc. The zone sufferes from too many people in the same area. The game just cant support all that information going on in 1 place. Everyone lags there if a bunch of people are taking part in the battle.

No one plays AV anymore though T_T
Nowadays I take 4 shamans (screw the paladin) and run around the towers and stuff. It's so peaceful down there.
