I keep reading that I shouldn't use cast sequence macros because they reduce dps. Why exactly is this? Sorry I know I'm a noob but I'm working on it.

it decreases dps due to the relationship between lag/latency and macro mechanics.
but for ease of use, it works fine.
and if you're killing things without issue, then dps shouldnt be your major concern.

when you spam a simple /cast button the server queues your skill as to avoid being influenced by latency.
If you ever run into latency problems and get like 1kms or something, you would notice you can still spamheal or spamdps one skill at a decent rate.
However, castsequences do not queue on the server, so the next cast after the last doesn't get sent until the first is launched. And therefor adds the time of your latency inbetween every cast.

I've started a thread in Hardware Tools but don't have an answer so far. Thing is, is it possible for XKeys to send a sequence of keys, all mapped in the same Xkeys button? This would still aloow for specific sequences to ba cast using a single button.
So, if you're using Xkeys and this is possible it solves the problem.
Imo not relying on castsequences starts to be a problem when you tank, dps and heal. If you only have one of thiese "sectors" several buttons is just fine.
If someone knows how please share :) googled it and searched here too. Couldn't find.
Thanks!

This wouldn't work, and would also be close to automation. A grey area imo. :p
Unless you learn to time pressing the key perfectly in which case go for it. But I don't see how you can profit from it. Only works with perfect time delays between which keys to send and that right there is smelly!

hm, jeah, it might be grey, but honestly Addons like 'MacroSequence' ('http://addon.hotwow.com/addon/addon_63.html') do exactly the same, so maybe ist ok with blizz

Anyone can do it. You just make this addon run the spells in each individual binding (in the form of a /cast ...) and that's it we have the desired spell sequence without using castsequence. Or am I getting it wrong?
It does remind me of some post with the /run on /click here. going to look for it.
Thank you,

basicly you get it right I think (never tested it).
But as the author claims there are two differences from a castsequence:
here are only two missing behaviors of /castsequence: reset on target change (impossible to do with current state headers) and holding position if an action fails (something many people don't like about /castsequence anyway). ..so basicly the last part means: you can't spam it (but this would be the same with the <Toggle>-solution in HKN).

At what point does HKN see when a cast was succesful and goes to the next cast in the sequence?
I still don't see how it's possible to have a castsequence queue on the server and therefor not be influenced by latency.
