Finally did it after 2 weeks of wiping on the 3rd boss. The last boss was a joke compared to the 3rd.

The 3rd boss dropped Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake and my tank Rarz got it. Very cool.

I want to get this Heroic UP down more consistantly and Heroic Nexus completed at this time.

I compiled my notes into my first ever mini instance boss guide for boxers 8)

Svala Sorrowgrave
I quickly position my team under the image of the Lich King as he speaks to Svala and face them toward her. Then I drop all my totems and position my pally tank near the boss to pick here up. I tank here right where she is. Random damage will be done to the party via fire balls. I normally wait and just do a group heal and top everyone off or use prayer of mending. The damage is not too big. During the fight she will teleport a team member to the alter. This player will be held in place till all 3 mobs are killed. Kill the adds quickly and move your player out from beneath that falling sword. That's it. She will teleport a player about every 20 seconds about 3 times in a fight. After killing the 3 adds and setting your player free start dpsing the boss again but be mindful of your aggro since your tank can not reach her.

Gortok Palehoof
Note: I a player dies during any part of this event you will not be able to rez them as you will be put back in combat too soon after killing a mini boss. In other words ... if someone dies at all its likely a wipe. There is minimal time to eat/drink between mini bosses. Use this time wisely.

I position my team in the rear of the hallway directly in front of the Gortok but at the furthest end 0of the wall away from him. I drop my usual totems and start the event. 4 mini bosses activate in a randomly. Tank all of these mini bosses at max range from the rest of your team.

Some info from wowwiki.com:
Jormunger- Has a poison that stays on the ground and does damage over time. Summons non-elite worm adds. (nature resist totem)
Rhino- Stomps for heavy damage. Has a charge that leaves victim with a DoT.
Furlbog- Non-interruptible Chain Lightning. May randomize aggro, but can be taunted. AoE Fear. Has Enrage. (tremor totem)
Worgen- Hits heavily. Mortal Strikes tank.

The actual Gortok fight is a DPS race. Tanks him facing away from your team and at max distance.

Heroic: You must fight all 4 of the mini bosses b4 you fight Gortok.

Skadi the Ruthless
I park my 4 toons at the back of the hall just in front of the boss. I drop my totems and aggro the boss with my tank. My tank runs down to pick up the closest 6 mobs that are running toward me. I drag those 6 back to the rest of my group and kill them. While this is happening the boss is flying over and laying down the frost stuff and more adds aggro to you. Make sure to pull the adds as close to the rest of your group as possible as this will keep your tank out of the frost stuff. It stops about 30 yards in front of your group. I do this till I have at least 6 spears. I quickly eat between waves of adds to get hp and mana back to 100%. Now I start my progression down the hall.

It's smooth sailing till the last group of 3 that are waiting in front of the cannons. They root you and are ranged. It sucks. If youaggro them too early and your team is too far you will likely wipe as the new adds will will likely focus on your healer and kill him. You need to get them all to bunch up and to do this use LOS. Again b4 I aggro the last bunch of 3 I make sure I am at 100% hp and mana. I cast avengers shield to get good aggro on the 3 mobs then run the rest of my group into the hallway where the adds spawn. I back them up against the gate leading to the next area and dps down all mobs so that only adds are left. I ten shoot my harpoons and aggro the boss.

The boss fight is simple enough. Tank him at max range from your group and stop dps immediately when he whirlwinds. Taunt and do not dps him at all. Just heal your tank. I pop bloodlust after the 2nd whirlwind and burn him down. You will likely still have adds around but just keep them off your healer

This is a slow and steady approach as all my other attempts have always lead to my dps or healer getting killed because they pull aggro.

King Ymiron
There are 3 mobs that are a seperate pull from the boss. Plull them way back and drop and tremor totem. They can fear you into the boss and that would be bad.

Honestly a big pushover compared to the previous boss. There si no need to spread your group out but I do just to keep an eye on them. There is one boat buff to be mindfull of .... the aoe one. This is where I pop bloodlust and burn him down 20% to get rid of it and heal folks through it.

gratz on the mount! I hate you though, I've been farming heroic UP for about 5 days and haven't seen the mount drop yet :(

There is another way btw to do Skadi, which imo I consider one of the hardest heroic bosses. What you do is farm 5 harpoons at the start (just wait at the start of the tunnel and let guys come to you). Then run out to the previous room, the boss disappears. Run your team quickly to the small room at the end, and park them deep inside facing out. Have one of your guys run out near the boss, don't aggro him yet. Drop all your totems, make sure all shamans drop magma totem and your tank starts his AOEs (consecrate, D&D, etc). Now the guy near boss aggros him and runs back to team, while rest of the guys DPS everything (everything spawns at once!). Don't shoot harpoons on the first pass which is after like 15 secs, wait until the 2nd pass (~60 secs) by which time all adds should be dead. Now harpoon him down, tank him outside while your team stays mostly in the room.

The hardest part of this is the transition when he lands. You have to kill any adds up first, keep aggro on the boss, and taunt him every time he is halfway to your team while whirlwinding (and still healing the tank). It takes a lot of practice, and even after 5-6 days now I still usually wipe 2-3x due to small mistakes of not picking up adds fast enough or letting the boss get too close to my DPS.

By the way this method lets you get the 2 achieves (3 min kill, 1 pass grauf) as well.

I tried that way and found it near impossible for me to hold aggro.

When they initially spawn they are grouped together. The hard part is when adds start to spawn. The ranged adds may initially melee you but then run away from you and range attack. It becomes quite hard to get aggro back and not step in the frost foam when the boss makes a pass.

you are very very lucky to get the drake, it has like a 2% drop rate.

Hells yeah! HUP down again for the 2nd time and I got the Red Sword of Courage for my tank

Now That I have the tanking sword there is no need to go back 8)

The worst part about Skadi for me is that the mobs will shoot at you through the wall, and it's not always possible to reach them. I only want to sword off Ymiron, which I got for my first tank, but now I have my second team to gear up for raids, and I feel like I will have to do it again. Sigh.

Can you post a video of the tactic you use for this guy? I tried to do him today and it was bad. Too many mobs spawning eventually aggro my healer and wipe. Until there is an easier way around this douche, I wont be doing UP past the 2nd boss.

skadi takes lots and lots and lots of practice to master, and even then its very easy to wipe. with the move-forward method its really just avoiding the schmears of frost he lays down, and moving forward at a good speed -- keep group close together, have taunts on easy to access buttons so you can grab aggro off (mods that show you when a party member has aggro is also very useful; pitbull and grid both support this). spam drink when you can, you get 3-4 secs in between each wave to drink up if you are less than 80% mana.

i found it slightly easier just to gather 5 harpoons, reset skadi, then run to the end and have one guy run, aggro him, and run back (meanwhile magma totems are down and my pally is consecrating). it still takes a lot of practice to master this method, but the fight goes by a lot faster. the hardest part here is when he lands, you have to tank him with your tank while killing any adds that are up, and simultaneously rotate your shamans and keep the tank far enough away from the dps so he doesn't ww them. Remember, when he is about halfway between you and the dps you have to taunt him, and he'll ww slowly back (timing is critical in everything on this fight).

skadi is just one of those fights where one single mistake will likely wipe you. not taunting in time, healing too early, dpsing before tank has aggro, LOS issues, etc. once you get good at it its a lot easier, but imo definitely not worth farming -- I killed him last week every day for 7 days (got it down to 1 shot by the end) and had 0 mounts. said screw it and not running it again.

You say farm harpoons and reset him. Ok I can do that. But then you say have one guy run and aggro him. This confuses me. Once you reset him and run back in you cannot run to the end without being swarmed by half the mobs half way to the end. Unless you have some mega speed buff I cant get to the end after resetting him without a crap load of mobs swarming us.

after you farm 5 harpoons and reset him, you quickly run to the end of the hallway by the harpoon machines. You park your entire team in the little room, all the way by the back (the frost on ground can hit the outer part of the room). They all drop magma totem every 15 secs. Now, one of your DPSers (not your tank or healer) go run to where skadi is. Make sure your tank starts AOE (either consecrate or D&D), your magma totems refresh, and have the DPSer aggro skadi.

now every single mob respawns in that tiny little room -- like 20 mobs or so. Your pally/DK should pick them up instantly, since he is the only one doing threat moves -- the shamans just have magma down for the first few secs. Wait to heal until the tank is at 50% or so, don't want to heal too early or all the mobs will aggro your healer and kill him. Meanwhile you still need to run the DPSer back to the team and put him in position (i run mage/3 shammy/pally tank team, so I just run the mage down and back since he has no totem).

DONT bring skadi down first pass, wait until everything is dead and 2 packs start spawning. Kill them fast, your tank should have the harpoons and go out and blast off 5 harpoons on skadis 2nd pass (about 50-60 seconds after event has started). He will land, move the tank as far away as you can while still being in LOS, kill any adds that are still up, replace magma totems with regular totems (plus poison), and taunt skadi whenever he is halfway to team.

If you search youtube for videos of skadi achievement you will see this strat, since its pretty much the only way to do the 3 min skadi kill achievement. Its also an easy way to do the bring-grauf-down-in-1-pass achievement, I've done them both this way.

Bsaically you start him.. run back into the previous room from the last boss about half way until you drop out of combat.. then run back full speed and you can get behind where the boss starts before he respawns. So you start in the very back of the room and got back ther ewithout fighting anything.

I finally got this fight down more or less after 4 evenings of wiping on it after hitting up my other heroics...

bad ascii map:
x = harpoons
Skadi = skadi!

--------| x x x
adds
______|

Skadi starts here
--------|
entrance
______|

1. start event by farming harppoons at the entrance end, get 5-7 (I like to pickup a few extra in case I have a newb moment) this will take a couple minutes as your waiting for harpooners to run down.
2. after aquiring said harpoons run out and reset the event, you have about 30 seconds before skadi and his ride come back and take their position at the entrance.
3. while he's despawned, run your whole team down to the room to the left of the harpoons (where the adds come out of)
4. set up, buff up, mana up etc
5. run a dps down towards the entrance and start the event again
6. As soon as he yells and hops on the drake, you'll get the whole gauntlet spawning on top of your team huddled in the little room there - be ready :) they usually are mostly dead by the time I get my sham who started the event back down to the rest of the crew (3x magma + concescrate).
7. Kill the adds, wait for first breath pass then plink away on the harpoons the next time he comes around and continue to kill him as noted above.

Key things to note: The doorway to the little room next to the harpoons is still within the AE strip he breathes, so be sure you're hugging the back wall. There will be 2-4 adds up when skadi lands, they need to be burned ASAP or the casters will own your dps/heals.

That's what's been working for me :)

I see.. My problem was after I reset it he spawned because I didnt know I needed to bolt to the other end right after it reset. He would be there after I reset him and when I tried to run to the other end everything would spawn again. With this new information I will try him again.
