At the risk of sparking off a horrible "debate" (Typical of youtube)...NiN actually wrote "Hurt" and it was covered by Mr. Cash shortly before he passed away.

I'm a huge NiN fan and can highly recomend them for grind-work. Check out "The downward spiral", "Further down the spiral" and "The fragile" for seriously good examples. For PvP nothing comes close to "The art of self destruction" for getting the blood/adrenaline pumping.

Their more recent work (With teeth, year zero etc) has caused a fair degree of disruption within the fanbase but I think its all equally good. Also, if you enjoy NiN you might like "Psalm 69" by Ministery. Loud, raw and *very* aggressive music. A good example track would be NWO (New world order) which, at the very least, will leave you with bleeding ears and shattered nerves.

Um...I make that sound like a bad thing!

Anyhoo, I love this topic (BIG fan of music) and look forward to reading about other folks tastes in music.

PS: "Ave maria" is a very odd choice but I suppose it beats the usual "Carmina burana" (sp?) suggestions. I used to have "Moonlight sonnata" on repeat...very touching but not really fitting for a good PvP thrash. I think I'll give Ave Maria a try... ;)

I'm currently listening to Dimmu Borgir (some Swedish death metal band a buddy of mine turned me on to) but my favorite band currently has got to be Clutch. If you want to start out with them, get Blast Tyrant, put it on track 2, and turn it to eleven.

Also like Maiden, Black Label Society, newer Priest, and Rammstein is great PvP music. From there it ranges to mellower stuff like Blue October, Evanescence ( Amy Lee  ) even down to stuff like Warren Zevon and Dire Straits. Really depends on the mood. I've even been known to listen to certain old school country 8|

I listen to "Sick and Wrong", a podcast that can be found on itunes. It's hilarious, good commentary. The shows are about 1 1/2 hours long, so it can make the time go by fast.

Heheh.. it *should* be better.. Johnny Cash covered Nine Inch Nails' song "Hurt."
There's also a live recording of "Hurt" with Trent (main man of NIN) with David Bowie also on vocals. Bowie & Trent have worked on a few songs together, like David Bowie's "I'm Afraid of Americans."

Oh, and if you really want to hear a badass remix of a NIN song - "Something I Can Never Have" - look for a track called "My Favorite Dreams Are Nightmares" by LXL. It was an internet release, so you'll have to dig around to find it, and it sounds NOTHING like the original song.
Some other bands if you like NIN:
Filter (the earlier Filter years.. lately it's more mainstream - Richard Patrick used to be one of the NIN performers)
Stabbing Westward
Gravity Kills (a little more clubbish-techno.. but similar to earlier NIN stuff, like the Broken album)

I'm getting carried away now...

My top 10 Boosting/Grinding tracks (some are unashamedly old and cheesy)

1) "Touched" by Vast.

2) "State of Euphoria" by Anthrax.

3) "Alternative Ulster" by SLF (Stiff Little Fingers).

4) "Poison" by The Prodigy.

5) "The beautiful people" by Marylin Manson.

6) "Reign in blood" by Slayer.

7) "Come to daddy" by Aphex Twin.

8) "New world order" by Ministry.

9) "Coming undone" by Korn

10) "Before I forget" by Slipknot

I have a pretty large archive on Itunes and a ton of playlists. I used to have instance specific playlists that were used to benchmark my progress. Silly things like "I have to reach Mograine before track 2 starts" etc...

I'm much better now though... :P

I guess I heard of them in the last time quite often, isn't this the band with the Crazy drummer ?! (Crazy in this case as ... you know what I mean :) )

I think I saw an insane Drum Solo by him with playing 7/8 th notes and 8ths notes at the same time. That was insane, He pwnd me in the face with his balls, I guess this was how I was looking at my Monitor ...

Rawr!!!Heh, I played drums in various country bands for about 15 years before getting sick of LSD (Lead Singer Dysfunction) and sold all my stuff. My last band was a Texas country band and we were actually 'making it big', and by big, I mean we played a few shows in front of 2000-3000 people.

My old school country favorites are (of course) Cash, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, stuff like that, that makes you want to down a bottle 'o Jack. I'm still a rock and metal-head from the start though.

And about the Cash version of Hurt, go watch the video of him doing that song. I think you're a robot if you can watch that and not bawl your eyes out, especially knowing his history.
