View Full Version : Something that's Not WoW?

Hi all. It seems the vast majority of multboxers play WoW, but my husband and I are getting to the point where we've just had enough. We're not liking where Blizz is going with a lot of things and we're getting the itch to move on to something new for a while.

Now, having boxed in WoW for the past year, I just don't think I can not box anymore. I adore the freedom it affords us...no more waiting on other people, no more listening to squabbles over loot, no more drama, no more having to play with people who just totally suck at their class :X Yeah, you know what I'm talkin about.

So, what else out there can fairly easily be software boxed? I use Keyclone for WoW and would really like something I don't have to shell out more money for, but I'll live if I need to. I'm trying AoC {not boxing} right now, but it's really not grabbing me. I've played just about everything out there and most of them I quit in frustration because everything needs a group. That's no longer an issue, though, hehe.

I've not seen mention of DDO on here, is that not boxable at all or has no one tried? The issues mentioned before with Keyclone and games like EQ2 and LotRO, are they still issues or have they been resolved? I'm really more interested in what can be done and how, since I've played just about all of it before, but if there's been massive changes to any other MMOs out there over the last two years, please feel free to share. Also, what are the communities like toward boxers in other games?

Thanks for any comments you can send our way.

I haven't seen a single MMO in recent years that can hold a candle to WoW, there's a lot of clear blue water between it and the nearest others.

AoC and WAR promised a lot and delivered very little - someone needs to learn that PVP biased games won't 'kill' WoW.

If you want some fun try City of Heroes - it's nothing like as good overall as WoW but does have some very strong points that make it fun.

EVE Online is awful bad, avoid it like the plague, don't even try it thinking that it can't be that bad.

Try "Sword of the New World". It's free, and I don't know that it works with most software multiplexers. However, there are some redeeming qualities. First, it's a squad-based mmo - you control a team of 3 characters, and you can choose which type you want for each of your 3. You can have two rangers and a healer, or a warrior, a mage, and a healer, or any other combo, and they each have their own synergy.

Another plus is that afk levelling is allowed, and even documented by the game developers. Your team can be placed in an autopilot mode, and level without you even being at the keyboard. The drawback - you won't loot while you're not there, and there's always the inevitable chance that something big and bad will come along and leave your characters lying on the ground (they won't autorez)

That being said, like many free to play mmos - it gets old after a few weeks at the most. There's not much to do except level, then level some more..... then level.... more. I didn't see much end-game that looked worthwhile.

Check out this thread on Vanguard SOH
Vanguard: SOH personal impressions ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=18289')

The game has a very deep PvE environment and offers a lot of freedom in the path you choose. The game is usable with KeyClone but it is heavy on the resource side so IS might work better for running multiple clients on one PC but that will depend on the specs of your computer(s).

One thing I love about VG is that you can macro corpse targeting and looting. It saves a lot of micro management.
